I went here for the first time today with a friend and fell in love with this place! There was so much to see, we literally spent two hours in there shopping and then went to the little diner they have inside for some lunch. I ended up buying a few magazines from the 1970’s and a case for my Polaroid camera. Plus, the customer service was great, I will definitely be going back soon.

The food at the old-school lunch counter is first-rate diner fare. Great burgers and fries. Everything is freshly made to order and reasonably priced. The cooks and servers hustle every day, making your food on a narrow counter and somehow navigating around one another to deliver it to your table. Hint: order at the register and take your number back to your table or seat at the counter. Check out the antique mall while you’re there. It makes the whole experience a blast from the past.

The Five and Dime Antique Mall is located in the old Woolworth Building in downtown Bakersfield. After eating at the diner inside, browsing through all the antiques here is a good way to pass the time. Many vendors display their stuff here. The place is packed with stuff! There is even more antiques and collectibles available downstairs. I’m certain that if I had more time, then I’d find something that I could not do without. Good place to check out when you are downtown. If you are into antiques and collectibles, then the Five and Dime Antique Mall should be on your radar.

I think this place is great. The place is huge and all the vendors cover a wide variety of different tastes. It’s a good place to start in terms of Bakersfield antiques. I found the workers to be helpful… the girl helping me was pretty cute.

Building is great, air conditioning struggled on a hot Bako day. The quality was a mix, some good dealers, but a lot of things that should be in a thrift shop, neither collectible nor antique. I collect from traditional, industrial, salvage, mid century, so I am open to anything, but this was a wasted trip. In addition, the 20 something year old employees were not friendly, helpful, informed, interested in the shop or making a sale. You were an interruption to their personal goings on. Lack of experience, could be overridden by enthusiasm if there was any there. Would be better to hire the older set who have some old school business etiquette. Found the Merry-go-Round across the street more people/shopper friendly. Wanted to spend money but noone was interested in taking it. The lunch counter can’t carry the entire experience of the store for a shopper. Sad:(

This place is okay. It has two floors of stuff. Since its all booth rentals just like anywhere else, they can’t really help the selection(or lack there of) that they have. That being said, I still found a small item to take home. These types of places tend to be all the same, but the building is actually kinda historic: D

The mall is great… the Food at the Luncheonette. is Awesome. Best burger in town. Fresh, tasty. I’d almost forgotten what fresh meat, home made patties and a real honest to God tomato tasted like. My compliments to the owners for taking to time to make it right! The mall… set in an old Woolworth’s building is wonderful. LOTS of stuff… Great place all around!
