Oh my, China Bistro, what has happened to your quality control? Could always be relied upon for fast, reasonable take out when needing to grab something for weeknight dinner. Tonight was just awful. Orange chicken was dried out, noodles were cold, teriyaki chicken way too heavy with garlic, BBQ pork was full of gristle; really a disappointing experience. Terrible. Cheap, but still not worth it.

Absolutely love this place!!! I’ve been going here for years and it’s always awesome! Decent price for a lot of food, combo B never lets me down! I’m not vegetarian and I LOVE the tofu with white rice, I get it every time I go. And the pineapple chicken I’d kill for! The servers are always polite, inviting, friendly and every now and then if the cooks catch you peeking in the back they aren’t afraid to wave and say hello, frankly, that’s awesome. I recommend this place to everyone who asks my opinion on Chinese food. Dine in or take out, its amazing either way!

My husband and I was craving Chinese food last night and we decided to go try China Bistro since I hadn’t been there in years and used to love going there. The BBQ pork was okay — mediocre at best. The Sweet and Sour Pork tasted like ketchup and vinegar. The Orange chicken did not taste like orange chicken. It was dry, burnt and had tons of chopped garlic which made it extremely bitter. I was not at all satisfied with their food. I don’t know who changed the menu — but they need to be fired.

What happened China Bistro? I’m a Bakersfield native and I grew up going to China Bistro. The food was always amazing! It has been a while since I’ve eaten at this restaurant, maybe 6 months, and noticed that the inside of the restaurant has been redecorated. It’s a nice, clean dining area now. Except the food: NOTGOOD! Everything is bland — everything! Normally I love saving my leftover Chinese food to take home, but I tossed most of my meal in the trash. So did my husband. And we hate wasting food. It seems like you have a new chef, or changed your recipes when you did the renovation. We want the old food and flavors back!

This place is terrible. The food sucks worse than the service and that’s pretty bad. Go here if you want some warm dog food served with an attitude.

One of the things that Bakersfield has an abundance of is Chinese food spots and that is whether it is sit-down dining or a fast food style place. One day recently I met my wife for lunch, arriving just before noon and it was not real busy. My wife ordered a two item combo and I ordered a three item combo. I cannot recall her order however I ordered no rice, only chow mein with Mushroom Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken and this spicy fish(cannot remember the name). The chow mein was good, no robust flavor yet not bland either, I was happy with it because I usually mix in the sauces of whatever items I order. The mushroom chicken was super bland and the sauce was extremely watery. What blew my mind with this item was most places have more veggies than meat but it was vice versa here. Do not get me wrong as I love eating chicken however when eating mushroom chicken I am looking for the mushrooms and zucchini too. This just fell utterly flat for me but then again not a lot of the quick Chinese food places can do this well. The teriyaki chicken had decent flavor but again the sauce was very watery. I usually take the teriyaki sauce and mix it with the chow mein to enhance it but with it being watery it couldn’t stick to the noodles well. The spicy fish item was really good and had a nice kick of heat, I just wish it was a little more crispy and it is probably because it say there under the heat lamp after frying. China Bistro is good for a quick and cheap bite to eat if you are not picky and looking for genuine Chinese cuisine. For the price it is not a bad deal and who knows, I might have caught the cooks on an off day. I will return to give them another go cause I know every is human and we are never 100% everyday.

Ordered family dinner special. Teriyaki chicken and orange chicken. The food was bland at best. The orange chicken tasted like zero but of orange and no flavor. The sauce was probably a corn starch slurry with no flavor. I expected something more since there was a line. The one star was for cleanings.

The food was alright a bit flavorless. And the chicken a bit dry but over all experience was pretty good.

I have been having this food for over 10 years now. It’s my favorite cheap Chinese food in town. It’s usually pretty good but today the orange chicken, which is a favorite, was way too dry to eat. I tried chewing it, but it was way too tough, so a lot of it ended up staying in the plate. The teriyaki chicken is ok but get the sauce on the side cause it’s SALTY! The veggie egg rolls, I like and their water(from soda machine) is good too. Service is super fast and friendly.

Hubby wanted Chinese food so here we are… Place is very clean there is someone constantly cleaning. Ordered 2 item combo — beef broccoli and orange chicken. Hubby ordered teriyaki chicken and barbecue pork. All food was delicious except the beef broccoli was a little salty for my taste but not bad. I really enjoyed the orange chicken. They serve a lot of food.

Atmosphere: very empty, 6 people max in a 30 table restaurant and employees who looked bored and depressed. Food: the chow mein was burnt and left a forward and after taste of char… kinda made the rest of the food taste less then it probably was but to be fair it was all also very oily then the typical Chinese food. My fiancé rice was dry however and very salty, I don’t even think it’s safe to have that much salt in your diet daily if you were to consume it(if you have a heart condition beware!) overall the food was lackluster, pretty shitty city and I would have rather have had quick wok from a gas station then buy this over priced sad expression of Chinese food. Just do yourself a favor next time and save your money for some Mexican food next door or consider something else overall or face disappointment.

The China Bistro is a quickie serve Chinese restaurant in the marketplace. While I’m not much a fan of food that sits under heat lamps then is served who knows how long later… This place is pretty good! Catch– I only order 2 things when coming here… Spring Eggs rolls and Egg Flower soup. The egg flower soup is the best I’ve ever had anywhere, period! It is made fresh to order. Crisp peas, carrots and mushrooms. The egg cooked perfect. I love it. The spring rolls are pretty good most the time. Just depends how long they’ve been sitting out under the lamps. My friend did not like his combo plate at all when we came. Just his opinion. Not basing my review off that. I loved what I ordered. China Bistro, 4 stars.

This is one of my usual lunch spots; I’m here about once a week. It’s not gourmet Chinese food — it’s fast food. Typical chow mein, fried rice, BBQ pork, sweet and sour dishes, beef broccoli, and egg rolls. Nothing super fancy, but the food and speediness that they offer at their price point is top notch. A one item bowl runs about $ 5 for rice or chow mein with one entrée. They also have an amazing sweet chili shrimp that comes with bell peppers and onions and I love me some bell peppers. I was pleasantly surprised to see a seafood dish like this on a steam table. Their BBQ pork is authentic, but a little over-sauced. Service is quick and the servers are on it. All the servers are very efficient and they move the line quickly. The owner is there sometimes. This guy knows how to treat his customers. He’s always smiling, chatting it up with the customers, and accommodates special requests, much to the chagrin of the other servers. They get irritated with him, but his actions and customer service are what makes a good impression on the customers. One complaint that I have is the hot and sour soup isn’t consistent. This is one of my favorite soups and 80% of the time, China B executes it well. Once in awhile, I get a soup that has too much, too much spice, or not sour enough. Other than that, I will continue my weekly visits here.

Wow, portion sizes are huge here! My husband & I don’t usually eat at Chinese to-go places but randomly went into one yesterday night before hitting up the movie theater. They have combo meals, where you can pick 1 item, 2 item, or 3 items. Each combo plate comes with either fried rice or chow mein. I ordered a 2 combo plate for only $ 6.55 and my husband had the 3 item combo plate for $ 7.55. Can’t believe how much food they gave us; so generous! :) Food quality and taste was what you can expect from a fast-food Chinese place, about a 3 star, but super friendly service, and plenty of seating. It was quite busy on a Friday night too!

This location has a new owner which was the best thing that ever happened to this restaurant. The food is decent but I totally believe it depends on what you order. If you order from the trays its eat at your own risk with when the food was actually cooked. You can older from their menu which has a lot more of a selection to choose from and they make that food to order. The woman that work up front are very kind. They weren’t just trying to get you in and out the door. We had all of our kids with us and they stopped and talked top all of our kids which I thought was very nice. At this location there are a lot of food choices but for something quick and easy this place is a wonderful choice, especially if you are going to eat before a movie since it is right next door to the theater. We will be coming to this location again especially since my kids love Chinese food and it isn’t going to cost you an arm anda leg.
