I had an amazing experience with C & R Automotive!
I was on the very first leg of an extremely long road trip, and had barely made it out of my backyard when I had some car troubles. I had just come over the mountains from LA and noticed my brakes felt a little soft on the downgrade. I pulled into a parking lot at the bottom of the mountains to assess the situation. After a few firm presses on my brake pedal it sank all the way to the floor! I was super grateful it didn’t happen until I was safely DOWN the mountain but pretty upset that it had happened at all, especially since I had just had a mechanic give my car a quick once over in preparation for my trip.
I called for a tow truck, but didn’t know where to have it towed as I was pretty far away from any real civilization and am not very familiar with the area. I just agreed to have it towed to wherever was closest/​easiest, which was somewhere in Bakersfield. It was late afternoon by the time the tow arrived and it wasn’t likely I was going to be able to get my car fixed that day, and the place I was supposed to be getting towed said they might not even have time to fix it the next day. Things were looking pretty grim. While I was unloading all this on the poor tow truck driver, he suggested I give this guy Randy a call as he would probably be able to get me back on the road pretty quick, and the distance was pretty much the same as where I was already getting towed.
I called and spoke to Randy and he assured me that they would be able to figure out the problem, and although they wouldn’t be able to fix it that same day he was confident they could have me back on the road the next day. That was more than the other place was able to promise me, so I told the tow truck guy to take me to see Randy.
When we arrived at C & R, me and my dog who was accompanying me on this journey were both pretty worn out. It had been a long afternoon in the blistering Central California sun, and Randy invited us into the lovely air conditioned shop, and provided me and the dog with a nice cool drink of water. It was near closing time when we arrived in Bakersfield but Randy assured me he would take a look at the car before he left for the evening so he would know what to order in the morning. I needed a place to stay for the night because it was evident I was stuck in Bakersfield so Randy gave me and the dog a ride up to the nearby Super 8 in his truck.
The following morning I wandered back down to C & R and Randy told me that the rear brakes were leaking and would need to be replaced. He gave me an estimate which seemed very reasonable from what I’ve paid for brake work in the past, and told me he would have the work done as soon as the parts came in. I told him I would have to check out of my hotel room at 11, so he said to come hang out at the shop once I had checked-​out.
After 11 me and the dog walked back down to the shop and waited around for a couple of hours for the work to be finished up. All the people at the shop were very friendly and tried to make sure I was comfortable and looked after. They even ordered in some Panda Express for lunch and made sure that I was heading back out on the road on a full stomach!
Overall the experience was great. Good work, friendly staff, reasonable prices and free lunch! I would 100% recommend this shop to anyone who needs work done while they are staying (or stranded) in Bakersfield.

I had a great experience at C&R, customer service was on the money and my jeep runs like it should. Randy was very knowledgeable about my 2005 Jeep Wrangler and able to give me advice specific to that year. Highly recommended, Thanks guys.

Great experience. I was in Bakersfield for a couple days when the air conditioning died. No good with 100+ degree weather and a long drive back up Interstate 5 ahead of me. I scrambled a bit to find someone who could handle things quickly and selected this place based on Unilocal reviews. I felt comfortable immediately on arrival. Randy was pleasant, competent and put my mind at ease. In the end, the A/​C was fixed, I had my car back in half a day and the price was very fair.

I needed to get the compressor replaced in my air conditioner and get it up and running for the summer. I called at least 6 different mechanic shops in town. I was either treated with a quick «roundabout» estimate, (way above what anyone else was saying) never received a call back, put on hold for someone who was «the only one here that knows about that» or just a very uneasy feeling about the person I was speaking to (leaving no trust for the work of the company). When I called C&R Automotive, the phone was answered by someone who immediately made me feel that I found the right place to do the work on my car. His first words were; «Let me call you right back as I think I can get a better deal on the part I need if I call around.» He called me back within 5 minutes with a very affordable estimate. When I got to his office he allowed me free wifi so I could handle business while I waited in an incredibly comfortable and clean waiting room. While sitting there I heard him on the phone with someone inquiring about a part for a customer who had just brought his car in. He told the person on the phone that the price they quoted was more then ‘we’ are willing to pay. This man gets it! We are not all made of money and we would hope those who are in the service industry would know that. I was conversing with another customer and they had said that they would not ever take their vehicle to anyone but him and he used to be his mechanic elsewhere and he always had a waiting list for customers. Wow! My vehicle was done in record time with no problems since. Only in a perfect world do you get all you ask for from your mechanic. I think for a day I was in a perfect world when I did business with this company! This NEVER happens to me and I am always prepared for it… usually I either get the runaround on the phone or spoken to like I am an ignorant woman. Then when I get to their shop I get played (after all I am a dumb woman I don’t know any better). I then end up sitting on something hard and filthy for hours waiting for the work to be done and of course the work is never done right and I have to bring my car back. Thank you C&R I will be back and I will be telling my friends about you.
