So I try not to give places only one star. However this place was lacking in many ways. I went for lunch during work hours so I did not enjoy any of the Beer or Alcohol. I went with a friend and we both ordered the chicken wings. Lemon pepper and garlic Parmesan. The wings were just ok they lacked a good amount of seasoning and they were a little over done. We also ordered garlic fries… For 6 $ we got what looked like half a suggested serving size. Very disappointing. Lastly we ordered dessert! Cookie with ice cream. It was very small. This place is not for sharing. The cookie was warm but still over done to my liking and the ice cream was ice cream. The atmosphere was neat at first, they redid the old Coco’s in a fun«hipster» way. However they neglected to clean. The place was pretty dirty. Windows were dirty tables were sticky and the floor was not really clean. They were not super busy when we were there… maybe they clean at night or not at all??? If I could give 5 stars for service I would. Our server was on point. She was attentive and always had our glasses filled. She put up with me saying that the portions were too small and that the place was dirty. She was amazing. 5 stars for the staff 2 stars for the food… and double the portions on the food! Over all this place will be great and fun if they change and few things and clean the place up a bit. Maybe the Booze makes things taste better and helps you to look beyond the dirt.

California & Oak was never a place I willingly frequented. It was more of a bottleneck to either enter or exit the freeway. Recently, a revival of sorts has made it’s way to this strange corridor. Bootleggers is located in the old Carrows/Cocos(whatever it used to be). Some aspects are the same, but for the most part the building has taken on an all new look. Almost an industrial chic which I’m totally down with. There’s a ton to like here including their most impressive tap list, which I did not try on this occasion(yeah yeah… boo! hiss!) The menu is an interesting mix of pub food and New American fare. Burgers are of course one of the star players. But what is especially intriguing are the plethora of cheese sandwich options. I’m game for cheese all day, any day. Service was on-point. Our waiter was super friendly, efficient, and cool. Nice to see that good service can still be found in town. Next time I want a cheesy somethin-somethin’ I’m definitely coming to Bootleggers… and having a beer!

I can’t think of many burgers if any that can beat this place. Not only are they massive but holy smokes are they good! Release the Kraken and the guac burger are some big olé tasty bastards that I dragged somebody over to try and they agreed. To go along with all that tasty grub is the big beer list of local and afar beers. The staff is always helpful and attentive. People that come here know good food and good beer so the staff is rocking it. Favorite place in Bakersfield for sure. The atmosphere doesn’t feel right though as it seems to be an old western diner that got taken over by people that actually know what they are doing. I think a remodel could really set the mood. Come here and eat!

Great food. Didn’t have a chance to try the brews… Miso steak salad had a great flavor, didn’t even need the dressing The ringleader burger… a basic bacon cheese burger was… well…a basic bacon cheeseburger lol. I also tried the Korean short ribs which were perfect with the greens on the plate. Korean tacos also a hit! Only downsides… chowder was mediocre and salty. The free wifi was free… poor signal strength. I’ll be back!

I’m not a beer drinker so I can’t really say much about the beer they serve other than they have a ton of options and they change regularly so you can come often and they’ll always have something new for you to try. Now for food I can say it’s always been very tasty! I’ve had burgers, tot-chos, a few different sides and even tasted a kids meal! Honestly, I’ve loved just about everything I’ve tried. The burgers are very juicy, tasty, and cooked perfectly(even when I asked for medium-well when they’re normally cooked medium). I have a small love-affair with nacho cheese and when I read one of the burgers includes this divine cheese I had to try it! Surprisingly(or not lol) the tot-chos are also drenched in this divine sauce. If you’re not a fan of cheese-covered-goodness, then these might not be a wise choices for you. Consider this fair warning. If you’re a fan of the«I Love Cheese» club, then be my guest! The kids burger patties are also made fresh like the adult patties and they’re so good and cooked well. The house fries, tots, wedges, and sweet potato fries are all tasty too! I can’t wait to go back and, hopefully, try something new. I wonder what else has some of that yummy cheese sauce… ;) As for the service, we’ve always been treated well and served very quickly too! Our servers have always checked-in with us to see if we need drink refills, extra napkins, anything, and we appreciate that. They even talk to my son a bit which is always a nice extra. One of my orders came out with wedges instead of a side salad and our server left the wedges and still brought out my salad without hesitation. THAT was awesome. I really dislike places that take your plate back to remove something they’ve already served… They did a good job here, even when it could have been easy to just take the wedge basket and bring a salad, they left everything as is. Great service and food, Bootleggers. I’ll definitely be back.
So I had an opportunity to make it out to the second Unofficial Unilocal Event yesterday evening and as soon as you walk in… You can just feel the laid back atmosphere in this joint. The place feels really comfy and the staff was really welcoming. When we sat at our tables we were immediately greeted by our waiter Caleb. The inside décor wasn’t overwhelming and actually looked really nice. Caleb did an excellent job attending to our table. When you go to a restaurant and eat you don’t want to feel bombarded by the waiter or ignored and Caleb knew when to swoop in. Our drinks were filled as soon as we needed more and he answered whatever questions we had. My favorite thing I had was probably the fried pickles. I’m a huge fan of pickles and I was definitely digging the pickle spears fried in yummy batter. I don’t drink alcohol so I couldn’t rate this place based on alcoholic drinks, but I enjoyed my evening based on the company as well as the service. At the end, Caleb ended our night w complimentary desserts for our whole party. I loved it and I was pleased w our chocolate pudding as I have a huge sweet tooth.
