Roberto’s Taco Shop

For an easy, quick-​stop in beautiful (!) downtown Baker, CA – I’d recommend the following:
BREAKFAST BURRITOS
The Breakfast burritos are king! First, they are HUGE. Second, they are delicious!
TAQUITOS
Taquitos are easy and great to crunch on while driving, so if you need to eat in the car and continue your drive — this is a great choice, and not too messy. Be careful not to swerve on the road while dipping into the quacamole.
TACOS
Wow. The tacos are excellent, and both the beef (shredded) and chicken (shredded and all white meat) are really hard to choose from. So, don’t. Get one, or some, of each!
SERVICE
Very nice guys! It will be a few mins longer than normal, as everything is made fresh to order.
All in all… this is a great place when you need a mexi-​fix.

Was totally psyched to visit a Robertos, being from san Diego… but it was a no show! It was NOT next to alien fresh jerky as was said in the other reviews.
Could they have closed down in the two months since the last review and been replaced by the new-​looking bbq restaurant that sits next to alien fresh? Maybe.
However, my 1star and utter disappointment lie in the fact that I wanted, and I mean WANTED, carne asada fries on the way back from Vegas. Being teased on Unilocal about the possibility of obtaining such a marvel, only to drive around in the desert on dirt roads that lead to nowhere but Jack-​The-​Ripper type houses has not left me pleased.

I was happy to see this cheap taco place on our way home from Vegas, what could be better than some spicy, cheap savory tacos after Vegas pretty much ripped your wallet open and ate its innards.
Prices were super cheap. I think tacos were like $ 1.00 or something. I got two carne asada tacos and one fish taco for a lil more change.
The carne asada tacos were tasty, their green sauce w/​a good kick. Nothing to write home about though and there was just something about that fish taco that wasn’t working w/​me. maybe over fried or something. but it had that over oily, stale taste that I wasn’t feeling so after one hard to swallow bite I put it down and just settled w/​two small tacos for my trip back home.
P. S. — I’m glad im not the only freak out there that gets bothered by the fumes of cleaning products as I eat, makes a big difference to my meal

Good food, decent prices… I’d give it 3.5 stars if i could. I got two asada tacos which were tasty but I would’ve liked the meat to be juicier.

our vegas trip drawing to an end, we drove through baker and were so psyched to see a roberto’s (the original sombrero logo, love it) next to «alien jerky»… Whatevs on the alien jerky, get me some taquitos ASAP!
cheap 24 hour eats that are a lifestyle choice in SD, worth the extra trips to the gym afterwards!
if you need gas on the way to and from vegas, I can’t think of a a better place to grab some to-​go food.
I repeat, the taquitos w/​guac. Oh yum.
(not baby friendly food. Just fyi. I would get bad mommy points if I fed this to my baby.)

Roberto’s Taco shop is difficult to review.
It just opened three days ago in Baker on the left side of the boulevard just up the street from the Mad Greek.
There is no atmosphere what so ever. It kind of reminded me of a «Little Caesars pizza shop» for mexican food.
The food is fresh and very good.
The Carne Asada burrito is large and very tasty. The Carne Asada plate with the usual beans and rice — from the combination plate menu is super.
I enjoy the «flying saucer» tostada —
probably a tribute to Alien Fresh Jerky right next door.
The tostada comes on a lightly fried flour tortilla and has shredded beef and a ton of fresh tomatoes and other super toppings — all very fresh.
My partner tried the rice bowl with beef — huge meal !
Roberto’s should get a star for being open 24 hours — so now there is a place to get food any time in Baker on the way to an from Las Vegas.
They should give up a star for having the store front mopped with clorox while we were eating.
I didn’t need my shoes cleaned, but «Oh Well…»
The manager is friendly …
the shop is small — room for 24 at any one time.
It looks as if «take out» could be their main emphasis.
