This store has gone downhill, I think. Stacks of boxes of discount shoes, and I had to repeatedly hunt for someone to help me. Even when I found them, they just handed me the box — no measuring, no other options brought out, etc.
I asked for any good aerobics shoes in my size to try on; the guy brought me one pair. Those didn’t fit; by then he had vanished and I had to find a second employee, who did the exact same thing.
Really disappointing service. Won’t be back.

Last summer (June 2013) I bought a pair of shoes here that unfortunately developed squeaks in both shoes… unwearable, they were just gathering dust in my closet and I figured I was out $ 100. Yesterday I stopped by the store to look at some shoes for my husband and just happened to mention the squeaky shoes… I was asked to bring the shoes in so they could be returned to the manufacturer, which I did, and the next thing I knew I was walking out with a new pair of shoes. That don’t squeak. With ZERO hassles. Now that is customer service! They have earned my unflagging loyalty (plus they have great stuff too from shoes to socks to leather goods to clothing). I am one happy camper and my husband, mr cynic, is amazed.

This little store is great. The staff knows how a shoe should fit, offers good advice, and doesn’t hurry you to make a choice. Although the store looks small, it carries a broad selection of comfortable and stylish shoes. Most of my shoe – as well as my husband’s – are from Sole Mates.

I love this store. They have a great selection of all my favorite brands. Born, Keen, Merrell, and more. There aren’t too many stores these days that carry a good selection of men’s shoes so i feel very fortunate. My kids and wife love shopping their too. I can’t say enough about their friendly staff. They’re always available to help you, but you never feel like you’re being smothered. Thank you Sole Mates. You rock!!!

Just recently moved to Bainbridge Island and wanted to shop local. Mike exceeded my expectations when it came to helping my 7 year old daughter find a pair of shoes. After getting home, she changed her mind and back we went. They were so understanding about the return that I later returned to find something for myself. I had read a bad review regarding returns but I found this not to be true. If you wear a pair of shoes for 6 months and then decide to return them and expect a refund, shame on you! Nordstrom may do this but they are a large corporation, not a small family shoe store. Love this store and the employees. SHOP and SUPPORT local families.

While visiting a friend on the island my wife and I stumbled into this store. I honestly have never been more impressed with the customer service we received. I tried on at least 5 different pairs and my wife at least 10. We both finally found the perfect pair of Vibram FiveFingers. Not only was Mike (manager) very patient with us he also told us of a couple great hiking trails on the island that would be perfect for us being new to these barefoot shoes. I highly recommend this business to anyone on the island. If you don’t live on the island it’s only a 30 min Ferry ride from Seattle. You WON’T be disappointed! Trenton Smith

Great shoes but HORRIBLE customer service! Shoes are overpriced and they do not honor their return policy. After getting burned, I have since learned that they have quite a horrible reputation around the Island. Save yourself the money and frustration and shop elsewhere.
