I really like the fact that BI has a local store to support our needs. And I’d truly like them to be successful. We did a remodel and went to Schmidt’s for a wide range of appliances. Their selection was good, the showroom is very nice, and the sales person was helpful in making our selection. And the prices were actually in line with other locations we checked. I liked that the sales associate gave us information on quality and service along with features and pricing. Up to the point of sale, I would give them 5-stars. Even after the sale, they did a nice job of keeping us posted on deliveries, etc. Yes, they charge for delivery and installation, but that didn’t surprise me as it did other locals. They dropped to 2-stars when it came to delivery day. First, they realized they forgot to order a key part(despite my repeated requests to confirm that everything was in and ready). They were gracious enough to absorb some of the last minute costs due to their error, but it was an unneeded headache in the midst of a remodel. Next, the initially installers did the job incorrectly. To their credit, Schmidt’s didn’t charge me for the ‘do over’, but again… a do over was not part of my project plan. Bottom line, it all came together and thus far I like the end result. I’m hoping they solve their issues post-sale and that the are here for years to come to successfully support BI needs.

I went to Schmidt’s on a hot holiday weekend when my refrigerator died. They were able to deliver a new one the same day. Larry helped me pick just the right one. The guys who delivered it were very professional and efficient. Everyone I worked with was very professional and fun to deal with.

After a long adventure they made good and we have a working range. Perhaps some of the issue was the brand itself, but we went through several months to finally have the issue resolved. I’m glad that they were able to finally pull through in the end; adjusting the score up for that.

We went to Schmidt’s to purchase a new washer and dryer after our dryer broke. We tried several times to repair our dryer, and after that was unsuccessful, we very specifically wanted to buy a washer and dryer that Schmidt’s would repair(to avoid the other repair people who were pretty awful). We’ve had our Samsung dryer for all of two weeks, and it’s started to make an awful squeeking noise. I called Schmidt’s for warranty service, but they, it turns out, do not repair Samsung appliances. Since we specifically asked about repair, I was shocked. And very disappointed. On top of that issue, Schmidt’s charged for installation, which most off-island places don’t. The total cost for the new washer and dryer, after adding delivery, installation, and other charges, was almost $ 2,600. I could have paid probably $ 400 less at a store off the island. I did not know that the installation fee would be nearly that much before we purchased. Needless to say, I’ll never go back, and I’ll be taking my business to the Home Depot or another big box store off the island. Paying extra was supposed to get me great customer service, and that failed miserably. I gave it two stars because the showroom is nice, has a decent selection, and the salesperson was nice enough to meet us after hours(because they close before the 5:30 ferry lands).
