Kitsap Credit Union

I gave it 2 stars because their staff is (usually) friendly and courteous (I would have given it one). That said, we have had multiple occasions when they have held pending deposits and not posted them until after they have posted purchase transactions which has led to multiple «Courtesy Fees», which they raised to $ 32 ea. last year.
Their phone system is horrible, tedious, archaic and untenable. Wending your way through 5 or 6 (best case) prompts until you can talk to a human is enough to send most civil people into paroxysms of Terretts Seizures. Their employees readily admit that the phone system is horrible and has multiple «Bugs», but after 2 years, they apparently haven’t attempted to fix it.
This used to be a great little credit union that was convenient because they were located on the Island we live on and it was easy to get someone you knew on the phone if you had an issue. But they decided to close that branch which served a community of almost 25,000, in order to open an In-​store branch at an Albertsons in a community of less than 10,000 (made sense to them apparently). They did however, manage to leave an ATM here though (which allows one transaction at a time and then spits your card out and you have to start all over). We found out quickly, that any deposits left in the deposit drop there will not get credited to our account for 3 or 4 days (no, I’m not exaggerating).
It seems that every year their banking products get less consumer friendly and more like a furniture renta-​center or cell phone sales outlet, and their service gets worse. Their internal stability is questionable — as every time we go into a branch the lines are horrendously long and there are all new faces behind the counters.
We are waiting for Alaska Fed, C.U. to open more branches and put out more ATMs then we are going to drop KCU like a bad habit.

This Credit Union is not ready for prime time. I tried them after the large bank bail out several years ago and they just don’t measure up in any way.
Here are a couple of things:
1) On my primary account (debit), they only provide statements for up to 9 months. Yes, you heard right. I need to keep MY records for 7 years, they can’t provide ONE year. Made it really tough to do my taxes. I called to ask them to please help me and they shut me down.
2) Online banking. There’s a little annoying bug in their online system. You sign in and if you click the ‘bill pay’ button, it kicks you out of the system. I called to find out how I pay my bills and they told me a work around (open in a new tab). Fine. ONE YEAR later the same bug exists.
3) Teller machine on Bainbridge Island is technology from 1980. Trust me, it’s bad. One transaction (painfully slow) at a time.
4) Apps — I may not have a right to complain about this, but there’s no Windows Phone app. I know, not many people use the Windows Phone, but we are in Microsoft’s back yard. At least make an attempt.
5) To dispute a charge on your account (a chargeback), they block your credit card while the investigation is going on. Really?
They do have a very nice staff and their 6.15% interest credit card cannot be matched.
In truth, reason #1 was the deal killer for me.

This location is super small and quaint. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes and the teller was super nice.
