Thank goodness my instincts steered me right and I escaped this unprofessional«center» before handing over my subconscious! I was asked to pay for all the sessions($ 1,200) all upfront… and that it was a way to make sure my subconscious was committed to the program! I openly laughed at that, and was quickly offered other payment options(apparently a trick they must try on everyone to see who is willing to pay for services not yet provided). When my appointment time came, I didn’t get any kind of confirmation, which I found odd but passable, and I went to their office location in Avon at the designated time of 5:45PM. I was able to find the building, but it was surprisingly dark… and I was again concerned that I hadn’t received an appointment confirmation and perhaps there was confusion. I found the main door unlocked, and thought it might be a «setting the relaxed atmosphere thing», so I entered and wondered if I would find candlelight and lava lamps. Instead, I found an empty hall with an empty receptionist desk in almost complete darkness, and a few doors on either side that looked like they possibly belonged to a variety of commercial tenants. I picked my way down the hall in the darkness and was able to make out the sign for«Mind Over Matters» on one side door. I knocked and entered, expecting to see a brightly light room with a receptionist greeting me. Instead I found the hypnotist, my scheduled hypnotist, sitting in a single room looking startled and annoyed that I had opened the door. I was taken aback while she announced she was in a session(in an unlocked room open to the public with no receptionist to handle clients… or…anyone from coming in??). Clearly annoyed, she stepped into the hallway and turned on the lights, shushing me repeatedly as I tried to explain that I was here for my 5:45 appointment(at exactly 5:45) and asking why the hallway was completely dark.(In retrospect, perhaps I could have realized that the lights had simply not yet been turned on, but I guess I had just been so nervous for my first hypnosis session and her clear annoyance that I was stunned into a mass of confusion… even massage appointments leave the light on for you and have someone to greet you!) After she went back in with her client I stood in the hallway for a few moments and realized that there was no way I could open myself to these people. Feeling panicked and upset, I left, and was called within 2 minutes by Lisa, who started off trying to sound soothing and calling me «hon» and immediately became annoyed and accusatory(all the qualities you look for with someone you are about to give your subconscious over to for 2 hours, right?). Instead of apology(not once) that she had taken a nervous new client and freaked her out, she said«Did the possibility occur to you that we were in session when the sun was out and it got dark in the meantime? And that you walked into a session… WHICHIS A FIRST!» I was able to resist saying that I felt it was strange that at $ 200 a session she didn’t feel that paying for a receptionist was a high priority… but I did have to ask if she had a sign on the door indicating that they were in session(really not sure at this point what these people are capable of but it seemed odd to me that she honestly seemed to think that I should have known what was going on in that dark hallway). When she snapped back that yes, she did have a paper sign hanging up that indicated that she was in a session… I asked how on earth she expected me to see the sign in the dark!!? She didn’t have a response for that. So that was my experience. Hopefully there will be no issues with refunds if they have already charged me for the first few sessions-we’ll see. But in the meantime, I strongly recommend that if you are looking for professionalism, patience, and compassion in your hypnotist, try someone else.
