Gander Mountain – Avon

Overall, we are fans of Gander Mountain.
Before there were some near Indy, we would travel here and there to check them out.
We’ve been in the Avon store several times since it opened.
Most recently, we went in looking for a particular type of ammunition. When we walked into the department, there were two workers standing and talking. They immediately broke and welcomed us. We were talking, laughing and one of them left to go to the back to see if they had what we wanted as the shelf was empty.
That’s when Bill S. joined the conversation and, let me tell you, WHAT A POMPOUS ASS. I was minutes away from saying, «You know what, we’ll go spend our money at a place where they don’t argue with their customers.»
We were discussing different types of ammunition and, I’m okay if he didn’t agree, but he was standing there with his chest puffed out and acted like a child. He was unable to have an adult conversation with someone who didn’t agree with him. We would say, «Hey, we read this and heard this,» and he was just basically saying, «YOU ARE WRONG. YOU ARE STUPID.» I was embarrassed for him and for Gander Mountain employing him.
… as a matter of fact, the two other awesome dudes quietly parted ways with the situation after determining that they didn’t have what we needed in the back. They’d seen this blow hard’s act before.

I was at Gander mountain this morning trying to buy shoes. I found what I wanted but could not find any help. This was the second time I could not find 1 person to help me get shoes. I went to the cashier and she said she would try her best. After 15 minutes of waiting I finally walked out.
Maybe management should hire someone.

This is one humongous store with practically all the outdoor sporting goods equipment and sportswear covered under one roof. You’ll find guns, accessories and ammunition galore currently with no limits on quantity of ammo. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful in each department I entered (even the gun department). Of course, being new, the store is immaculate and well organized. The isles felt spacious and not cramped with the layout and signage helpful for locating departments quickly.
Of course the prices are slightly higher than a few others but sale prices places in the range you’d expect. Of course the convenience and selection sometimes outweighs my time spent or the small percentage I’d save searching elsewhere.
I enjoyed browsing the store for all the cool items, most I’ll never use, but wonderful knowing they are available for those gift items of the future. Grills, smokers, camping equipment (always useful at race time and summer), rugged boots, and outdoor wear will certainly bring me back. With Galyan’s a thing of the past on the west side this will fill a need missed by many and a nice addition to the area.
