A nice new library Avon has always had nice libraries but in 2012 they opened up their long awaited, newly renovated library. The first thing I noticed that the building huge, over twice the size of the original and very pleasant to look at, with lots of curving lines. The inside is lovely with a lot of attention paid to aesthetics and comfort. All the extra area allows the library to be very spacious and open, with huge windows letting in lots of natural light. Because of all space, several new rooms were added as well as a whole new computer area with nice new computers. Several conference and meetings rooms are available and a really nice local history and genealogy room is upstairs. Lots of fascinating old photos and artifacts are on display on the walls and in glass cases. Avon isn’t exactly a poor town but the library is pretty nice, especially considering that Avon isn’t all that large. Not as stunning and historic as the really old libraries that are so common in New England but there is no denying that Avon did a great job and now has a very practical as well as lovely new library.

The remodeled library is a big hit. Good programs, history room, DVDs, Internet. It’s got all what a modern library should be. And the new library director, Glenn, just gets it. Overall, a great place to visit.

I visited the newly opened Avon library today. What a beautiful job they have done with the expansion that added 23,000 square feet and more than doubled the size of the building. Many of the changes are major– relocating the history room from the second floor to the first, and adding a new teen room on the second floor, community meeting rooms, and a big computer room on the first floor. Some of the changes are more subtle — like the roomier display shelves to show off their impressive CD and audio-book collections. Anticipating town growth, they have also expanded the parking lot quite a bit. Nice job, Town of Avon
