Finding good Mexican food in Northern Highlands County is easy. Finding good Chinese, not so much. Yums gives it their best shot and it’s definitely better than poking a sharp stick in your eye. LOCATION– They are in a dying plaza on the southbound side of Route 27. Outside appearances are abysmal. Hang tight as it gets better. ATMOSPHERE– This is primarily a take-out place but there are a few widely spaced-tables and chairs. There is also a serve-yourself fountain soda machine. You’ll notice that everything is spotless. Even though it is clean, I can’t imagine being desperate enough to eat there. CUSTOMERSERVICE– Service amounts to taking your order and I’ve always found the folks behind the counter to be all smiles and efficient. They usually say it will take 15 minutes and it usually does. FOOD– There is a giant menu with all the usual categories. Everything that you expect is there. I think I’ve seen very close to the same menu in a hundred places and that’s not a bad thing. My Mongolian Beef lunch at $ 5.55 was hot and stuffed me. It was supposed to include pork fried rice and there were small bits of pork but the rice was definitely not fried. The vegetables were nice and crispy. The egg role was slightly soggy but filling. Overall it got the job done. If you are cruising down this part of Route 27 and need an MSG fix, you can get it here.

Very average carry out Chinese or sit at an uncomfortable table and eat out of styrofoam. ½ hour wait at dinner time on Thursday.

I came here for lunch with a co worker who said the food was very good. It has been years since I’ve had Chinese(besides PF Changs) and I figured why not? Yums is unassuming and seems clean. The restaurant is really only one room with tables lining the walls. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I had the vegetable lo mein and it was pretty good. It was also super cheap($ 3.00 for 16 oz) Just off of that, I would have given this place 3 or 3.5 stars if that were possible. However, these were my issues: i ordered sweet tea and it literally tasted fried. Fried. So so gross. I could barely drink any. My co worked also said her Pepsi was gross. Then, my other problem. As I was digesting I started feeling pretty yucky. I just felt bloated and wanted to throw up. I realize this is just from cheap food and too much msg. I had to some fresh nectarine to ease my upset tummy. I can honestly say I won’t be eating here again.
