We had a morning appointment in Avon Park and arrived early enough for breakfast. We had a tough time finding a place to eat that wasn’t fast food. After driving up and down the main highway, we finally found this on Main Street in the Historical District. We love local cafes and this was definitely that. The server was excellent. She was friendly and efficient. We really had no complaints with anything. We both ordered the omelet. One was a ham and cheese and the other just a cheese omelet with fried potatoes and onions. The omelet was puffy and it was okay. The potatoes were on the dry side but came to life when we added a bit of butter and salt. So, breakfast food was okay but nothing great. This restaurant does not accept debit or credit cards. There may have been a sign indicating that when we walked in but we did not see it. We discovered this when we got ready to pay. Thank goodness we had cash with us and were able to pay for our food.

Came here at 10:33am for breakfast today, and the server said breakfast was finished. We asked if she could check with cook and we heard her say, «Breakfast is finished, right?» Instead of asking if they could still make breakfast for a customer, she phrased it so the cook would affirm that breakfast is finished. She didn’t even try. Was with my dad, and my dad said he was there and the same thing happened to a local, but they made breakfast for him, because the waitress asked differently. Was really disappointing because their lunch menu looks uninspiring, so I didn’t get anything while my dad got a hot beef sandwich. I went last year when I was visiting my parents, but I won’t go back. Restaurants and their servers are supposed to provide good service that makes customers happy so they want to return. I don’t want to go back, and I doubt my parents will either. I’m sure they’ll talk about it with their friends, too, as retired people in Florida like to do.

The atmosphere and staff are pleasant. We had breakfast. It was enjoyable until the bill came. $ 20 for 2 breakfasts is too much. I had a veg. Omlet. My husband had 2 eggs with hash. We both had coffee.

This is the story of two Johns. Big John and Little John both have serious cooking skills and their specialties complement each other. So for decades now they have owned and run this legend in Highlands County. If you are looking for an excellent breakfast or lunch, this is the place. They are only about 90 seconds off Route 27. Skip the street parking out front and go directly to the large back lot with a convenient back entrance. Once you get inside you discover it’s bigger than you expected with both booths and tables. Everything is spotless. The ATMOSPHERE here is small town restaurant at its very best. The staff here is mostly young and energetic and always ready with a smile and a refill of your coffee. So CUSTOMERSERVICE is no problem. The breakfast and lunch menu is small but gets the job done. You don’t come here for cuisine; you come here for excellent home-cooked FOOD. On my last breakfast visit I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelet with the usual accompaniments. I was asked if I wanted fried onions in my home fires. Of course I could have had grits. It went for a whopping $ 7.95. It arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. I felt like I was a honored guest in somebody’s kitchen. These folks are not to be missed; especially for breakfast!

If you are staying at the Jacaranda this is your breakfast spot. Large portions and friendly folks. Good that it is here and there’d be no hesitation to eat here again. Not sure they are winning any awards, but a nice, homey joint.

Since moving away from AP, I miss my lunch at the Depot more than anythng! The chicken salad sandwiches, desserts, soups, etc are so «down home cooked»! Miss y’all!
