Coney Island Hot Dog Shoppe

Slow horrible service. Very dirty. The legendary chili was borderline inedible. Everything tasted like it was found in a dumpster and reheated in the sunlight with a foil box on a cloudy day.

Keep on driving! They forgot one of our hotdogs. The fries are bad. The hamburgers are too small. The hot dogs are too small for the bun. Just not a place I’ll be returning to.

This is primarily a place to get chili dogs, but they do have a very diverse menu. If you’re looking for fine dining you’re in the wrong place, but if you want a ton of comfort food, this is it. I’ve never seen the same cashier twice, so they tend to be either dumb or just completely ignorant of their own menu, but once you get your food its a good time.

I went a second time not to long after making this review and I’d probably never go back. The line was out the door and the person at the register had no idea what he was doing. They were so backed up they called someone over from the bar area (not sure who he was, I’m assuming he worked there. However he was drinking). After waiting almost 25mins to place our order the cashier walked away and never came back after swiping my mothers card and handing it back. Another lady came over and asked if she could help us and my Mom just asked for a receipt, the lady said they can’t give receipts? Is that even legal for a business? I don’t know. Needless to say our order was messed up, the buns were stale and not worth the wait or hassle. You’re better off making your own hot dogs or driving to Girard to go to Jib Jab.

Decent food, worth the price since it’s pretty cheap. Got chilli cheese fries, but they didnt give me chilli and cheese. still charged me the price for chilli cheese fries. Scott makes very good food.

The old owners took the shop back over. They’ve hired new employees like I change underwear… Horrible service and long waits to get food.
The bar drinks are almost unaffordable.
The prices change daily & I have no clue what I’m being charged.
Jays Gyro is a much better deal.

I had been wanting to stop in and try them out for a while, and I finally got a chance to and I wasn’t disappointed. I only tried their hot dogs, with sauce, cheese and onions, and they tasted pretty good. I was a big fan of the Coney Island in Boardman growing up, and the only place with similar tasting sauce is Jay’s. I have to say outside of making it myself, their sauce is the closest I’ve had in years to what I remember. The pricing wasn’t too bad either, traditional hot dogs with just sauce are .99 cents, onions are free but they do charge for cheese, ended up being about $ 1.50 each. This is a totally different sauce compared to Jib Jab/​Hot Dog Shoppe which is what I want, as I’m not a fan of theirs. This has a more meaty consistency, and just enough spice. I’ll definitely stop back here again.

I just had a gyro from this location that was probably the worst I ever had anywhere. The texture of the meat was very soft, almost mushy. Makes me wonder if it was mostly filler and very little meat. The lettuce consisted of a few big chucks of white iceburg lettuce and the sauce was nothing more than plain sour cream. I couldn t eat more than a few bites and had to throw the rest away. It was that bad.

This was a very nice hot dog restaurant. Very very friendly people, and super outstanding fries! The hot dogs were very good but I’m a Jib Jab fan (if you’ve ever been there).
The atmosphere of the restaurant was great! It was decorated to support YSU so these are definitely locals helping out the economy. If you’re in the mood for a really good hot dog, give this place a shot! My family and I will most likely be back… This time to try a burger :)
