I guess I’ll break it down as follows:
Facilities: ⁴⁄₅. The on-​site pharmacy is excellent, best I’ve ever used. Atrium space makes for a nice entry, and free condoms are available next to the entry. Everything is state-​of-​the-​art and very clean (as one would expect of a healthcare facility). The parking, however, is horrible and expensive. And the layout confuses the hell out of me. Different clinics and labs on different floors with various offices thrown in among them. I always default to the receptionists on the first floor to find out where to go and how to get there, which leads me to…
Nurses/​doctors: ²⁄₅. I’ve had pretty crummy doctors here. They are wrapped up so thickly in red tape that they can’t seem to do much for me. They often tell me how UHS doesn’t do this or that, how appointments are very specific — what they can’t do for me, basically. The nurses get pushy with me at times, and act ticked off when I’m early but ask too many questions or make them wait while I fill out a questionnaire. I also got horrible advice from a sports medicine doctor when I hyperextended my knee and she said to just elevate it, that I was fine. I used to run mile after mile no problem, but since that knee healed improperly, I literally limped through the last 16 miles of my first (and now probably only) marathon this February. Lab staff is awesome, though, and they always work quickly and happily.
Services: ⁵⁄₅. As I said before, the pharmacy rocks. The labs also run very smoothly, and I use them for my bloodwork/​testing whenever possible. I have also heard excellent things about the psychiatric help offered at UHS, but since I have a separate psychiatrist, I’ll just drop that line here without letting it influence my review. Scheduling is also pretty easy.

Cons: layout, doctors/​staff
Overall, since the staff is what matters most at a healthcare facility, I gotta give a ³⁄₅. ⁴⁄₅ is too nice, 3.5 would be perfect. ³⁄₅ is a bit harsh but it’ll have to do.

I gotta agree with the posts below. Very cheap and affordable, pretty easy to get appointments. The providers are professional and knowledgeable.
Much like a poster below in regards to random charges, I canceled my appointment the Sunday morning before my appointment 23 hours ahead and received a $ 25 fee. I understand they have to make a cut off somewhere, but whether it’s canceled 23 hours or 24 ahead, it doesn’t affect how the provider gets the information and makes an adjustment in their schedule, making the policy null.

Can’t beat $ 5 doctor visits for students with insurance.

My only comment is regarding their no-​show policy, NOT their services. I have had mostly pleasant experiences with nurses, staff, and doctors at UHS, but be warned, their no-​show policy now automatically charges anyone $ 25 who is more than 5 minutes late. I don’t have a problem with the policy, but this information was not provided in the initial scheduling phone call or reminder email. Guess I should have waited after checking-​in to use the restroom. A $ 25 pit-​stop.

Essentailly I give UT Austin health service 5 stars WHEN THEY ARE OPEN. I have always been seen reatively quickly. The person I talk with is always very familiar with my issues and «Gets it» in a way that I would normally not expect. They understand what it is like to be a student.
I guess what si really cool here is that the doctors get to make the most informed and right choices rather than what some insurance bureaucracy tells them to perscribe. No dout they do discuss your insurance so that you get the cheapest most effective medicine for whatever ails you. Also I worry a lot, but here I get enough information so that I don’t have to keep on worrying. It’s a good feeling. All fear is conquered with knowledge.
My only bug about the place is that when they are closed and you desparately need some perscription refilled. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone in those situations.

I’ve had more good experiences than bad with University Health Services, so I guess it evens out to a four star experience.
My first was the worst. My scatterbrained mama lost my immunization records, and it was a document I hadn’t thought to take with me when I grew up and realized she did these kinds of things. So, I tried calling my backwards town in Georgia to get proof to no avail. I had to get another immunization. The nurse was rude, and not gentle. Her bedside manner was seriously lacking. I was pissed.
A year later, I was feeling sick. I went in with flu-​like symptoms. They verified my fever, and gave me a free flu pack with medicine, and sent me on my merry, free way. Much better service this time.
Another year passes. In the meantime, I start to get a prescription refilled here every month. They forgot a couple times, even though I called ahead. I wish they would call you to confirm it was filled. I would show up, and have to wait 30 minutes, hoping I didn’t get a parking ticket.
Another visit: Barbara Blizzard, C.N.M., aka gynecologist, was my angel. We discussed triathlons, my five year plan for having kids, a doctor who quit practicing to cycle in New Zealand, and my husband’s recent concussion, and before I knew it, all the hurty yucky parts were over. I highly recommend her… least painful annual exam I ever had. No money was discussed at reception, which didn’t phase me, since I thought it was free, until I noticed a $ 48 charge tacked on my tuition. I wasn’t told that, but so be it.
This week: my voracious Q-​tip use finally caught up with me. Racked with pain, I called UHS at 3:30 on Monday… they said I needed to come in immediately and Dr. Turner could take me at 4:10. Sweet– a 40 minute turnaround. Dr. Turner informed me that my ears were too clean, and without a protective layer of wax, an infection set in. That’s why my ear was swollen shut. Creepy, I know. She was so sweet and caring, and didn’t make me wait more than a minute. She also didn’t make me feel like I was a disgusting swollen-​ear-​canal-​Q-​tip addict.
