We stumbled upon the restaurant and ordered out food before we read the reviews. We were a bit nervous, but the food was GREAT! Yes, the service is interesting.

I was warned that the service is quirky. No interaction — just bring the food. If you want great food but don’t care about service quality, then you should go here. We were there on a week night so there was no one there and we felt like the server wanted us to leave. But I think that was just the way he provides service. We had to ask for plates, utensils, more water. There was a war movie blaring on the TV and a child running around. It’s a family run business and the occasional guest should expect this sort of thing I guess. The eggrolls were fabulous! All of our food was really very good. It is good quality, no MSG overload and we enjoyed the flavor. I would go again — but expect no ambiance and that’s okay.

This is one of those places that you WANT to be good. You want them to be successful because it’s a unique menu for a small town and the majority of their food is excellent. But their service is so inconsistent(most of the time, downright poor) that it really turns you off. And even though they advertise delivery, most nights they simply don’t deliver. Without apology. So what can we say? Their Phở, Bun and Lo mein dishes are great! The spring rolls are excellent. Suggestion: if you’re ordering a dish with veggies, ask for extras; they tend to skimp on the vegetables. So if you want some solid Asian food that’s pretty authentic, bring your friends here. Or better yet, order for takeout and enjoy it at home.

Disgusting and bad service is all I have to say!!! We had order friend chicken and we got old chicken that was refried back into the fryer ! Dried up old chicken. We demanded a refund and they didn’t want to give us a refund oh we made sure they did! I really wanted to rate this place with zero stars but they didn’t have the zero! Food has no taste what so ever the worst Asian restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life.

Good food. The phở was delicious. Service not the greatest but you can’t go wrong with a place that has sriracha on every table.

Just dined there last night. I didn’t have my expectations high, as I’ve eaten at great Vietnamese restaurants in the Twin Cities and was unsure how a small town would respond to it. Good news is that they have a menu for people who are leery of Vietnamese food, but, comfortable with things like«lo-mein» or typical-Chinese style dishes. The spring rolls were awesome. Huge and good. I had the BBQ shrimp and egg roll noodle salad. It was good too. A lot of food. My date had the shrimp lo-mein. He’s eaten wth me in the Twin Cities at more authentic style restaurants and thought it was iniitially bland. However, adding a little of the hoisin sauce spiced it right right up. Overall, great surprise in a small community. If you’re new to Vietnamese food, give it a shot and don’t be afraid of the sauces. They help to cater it to your taste buds. We’ll be back and glad to have this option in Austin.

Food: delicious, large portions, good price. I always order the sesame chicken, as I do at most Asian cuisine locations, and this place has great stuff. Service: speedy, but not too cheerful or bright. Not really complaining, just not a highlight for them.

I get the chicken phở every couple of weeks as a delightful takeout dinner. I’ve had phở in plenty of high-end, big-city restaurants, and Top Noodle can stand proud with their product. That said, I can only give them four stars because they don’t smile or give any indication that they enjoy being in the business. I really want the restaurant to make it, so I hope they will at least add a smile to their service to help secure repeat business.

Visited this place with a friend on Saturday night around 7ish for dinner. We walked in and the place was kind of empty with exception of several occupied booths. I was not discouraged since this is Austin after all. I quickly changed my mind when our foods arrived. The restaurant: Big open and somewhat clean. We found a shrimp on the floor of our table. Not a big deal but the floor should have been clean since the restaurant was not busy. The service: The service was ok. The server took our order and brought our food out. Not much personality and no smile. He did not come over to refill our glasses or check on things. The food came out quick. When the bill came, we got to the counter to pay and the server added $ 10 to the bill. I pointed it out and he quickly apologized. Again, the restaurant was not that busy for the server to be distracted. The food: Spring rolls were a little sad. Full of rice noodles, lettuce and dried up pork with ONE leaf of cilantro. I counted… just one. I was in the mood for phở that’s why I went to Top Noodles Vietnamese restaurant. When I ordered the phở, the server told me that they don’t have vegetables(bean sprouts, basil, pepper and lime). I was like are you freakin kidding me? This is a Vietnamese restaurant where phở is your specialty. Since I was craving phở, I ordered it anyway. It was not a good idea. The phở did not satisfied my craving. The broth did not look fresh and the taste was just ok. We both left the place still hungry. I know this is Austin and a lot of people might not be an expert on vietna cuisine but come on… it is down right embarrassing to serve phở without the basics ingredients. I don’t know what the 5 star reviews are for but I will not be going back to this restaurant.

Not a good experience. I was given a menu and I chose a dish. When I ordered, I was told they no longer make it. He said they have a new menu which was attached to the front and then proceeded to point to another page in the menu and simply said they have the dishes on the new menu and some of the dishes on the page he pointed to. I was a bit annoyed at being given an outdated menu. The patrons are expected to know what they have and don’t. I mentioned they should at least cross off the dishes they no longer make. He didn’t seem to understand why I would even suggest that. I had to settle on ordering something that I really didn’t want. Another couple came in after and ordered after me. I waited for some time. The couple received their food while I continued to wait. More people came in and were being served. I don’t know how their food was since I never received my order. I ended up getting a meal elsewhere. Their menu seemed to be single item dishes. The portions looked quite large but who can eat so much of one thing? I won’t be rushing back.

This is an absolute disaster of a restaurant! The food CAN be good but the service couldn’t be any worse. With that said, I will NEVER eat here again as the last time we ate there, there was a bug in our food! The worse thing about this situation was how it was handled! The server simply took the plate to the back and returned not a minute later with another plate of food. Nothing else was offered but a slight apology! I’m not one to look for free food, but they didn’t even offer this meal(my wife’s) at a discount! Other issues are tables that are not clean, servers never checking in after food is delivered, owner unable to change the tv to anything other than what he wants to sit and watch, etc. Clearly they have no desire to be customer orientated. Sad excuse for a business!

The definition of 5-stars on Unilocal is «Whoohoo! As good as it gets!». Top Noodle is a Vietnamese restaurant in Austin, Minnesota, and It is «as good as it gets» in the city of Austin. Austin, where they serve both kinds of food… meat AND potatoes. I have tried several places here in the past couple of years as I make my annual return home for a family visit. Normally, I am almost universally disappointed with any food at any place here. I accidentally discovered this place when my mother took me to a new Chinese restaurant. Ok, my mother is 70 and is a life-long resident of Southern Minnesota. Any«Asian» place is «Chinese» to her. When I noticed it was Vietnamese, and not Chinese-American, I got interested to try it. I knew I would be disappointed because this is Austin, and not a thriving I-district like the ones of Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and so on. Okie-dokie, let’s go with a traditional Phở soup for lunch. What better comparison do I need to make? I also ordered a Café Sua Da(French-Vietnamese iced coffee). Both were unbelievably and surprisingly good, not just for Austin, white-bread, Minnesota, but for any where. The Phở had perfectly prepared beef, tender and rare. The broth actually had decent flavor. This soup was the second best Phở I’ve had. The best being Than Brothers in Seattle. At the end of the meal, they served us a complimentary puff-pastry(the French influence). The only other place I’ve been to that has done that was Than Brothers. Ok, Top Noodle, you’ve got me. The rating is 5-stars because this is as good as it gets in Austin. If this were in Seattle, I would give it 3-stars, A-OK. If this were near my home in Magnolia, I would go there for lunch without a doubt, if they lowered their prices to a competitive level for Seattle Vietnamese food. Their prices were understandable for Austin, however, Phở that is normally $ 5.50 at Than Bothers, is $ 7,95 here. Spring Rolls that are $ 1.50 at Seattle Deli, are $ 4.50 here(ouch). It is understandable because Seattle Deli, for example, has people queued up through the door at lunch for their $ 2 Banh Mi sandwiches, $ 1.50 Spring Rolls, and the plethora of other Vietnamese food. In Austin the volume of people is just not there. I am happy to pay the prices in order to keep this place in business. They are competitive with the other restaurants in town. The owner and staff are Vietnamese, and I chatted with them, and I told them of my extensive background with Vietnamese food, and were quite pleased to be serving a knowledgeable person their food. Do not go to the fake Chinese places, or the bad any-place restaurants of Austin«what-the-hell-is-cilantro?», Minnesota. If you want a real, traditional, and decent dining experience, there is just one place to go: Top Noodle. Epilogue: I went back the next day for lunch too. I had a nice vermicelli bowl with BBQ pork & shrimp. Pork was tender and nicely seasoned. The shrimp were perfect. It was prepared exactly as expected. I did ask if they had any Banh Bao before I ordered. The owner offered a small smile, and a slight brow raise. I could see his surprise, as I am sure I was the only patron who would ever ask him for Bao. He answered, «no».
