My wife and I love thundercloud and we were flying to San Jose, a 3.5 hour trip and thought, why not get 2 thundercloud sandwiches. We ordered a California club and a regular club on wheat. I didn’t open them until halfway through the flight and they were great. Very good size for a really good price, exactly how we ordered them. Very tasty, service was fast, friendly and professional exactly what we ordered.

Pros: I appreciate that they have a veggie option on the menu and that they have hummus so that you can make it a vegan sandwich by choosing that instead of cream cheese. Cons: Logistics of ordering are flawed, there are tight spaces to order through and shelves of chips in the way so its hard to relay your order. Secondly, the sandwich is kind of meh, nothing to rave about but not horrible either.

I cannot hate on this place. It was better than I expected, and the healthiest option in the airport by a mile. It’s pricier than it would be in a non-airport location, but the prices won’t make you scream, and the California Club sandwich was actually pretty fresh and delicious. Loved the fresh avocado and crispy bacon, paired it with a bag of harvest cheddar sun chips, and we actually rather enjoyed our last meal stateside.

Austin sadly has a pretty poor selection of quality airport food. They do have a nice selection of local restaurants– but these restaurants are much much better than their chains at the airport and should be embarrassed by how they are represented at such a frequently visited establishment. However, one of the better representations of Austin food– besides salt lick and it’s super long lines– is thundercloud in its hidden corner. I wasn’t in the mood for heavy airport food because I’m trying to save my stomach for turkey feasting, so I was on a mission to find a healthy salad for the best price. While every other food stop sold measly salads for $ 9 – 11, thundercloud has great salads for only $ 6 – 7! I got the Austin club salad, made a few substations — thank you to the friendly staff who accommodated to my diva order– and had a great meal on the plane for a solid $ 7. Obviously not great quality food or amazing taste but for the best airport price you can get, I’ll take it!

These guys stayed open late for us when our flight had been delayed over 12 hours and all the other shops in the airport had closed. Awesome service and food!

They don’t deserve the bad reviews lately. I had a very good, fresh sandwich here today that was every bit as good as a Thundercloud not at the airport. The employees I interacted with were professional and courteous. Is it a little slow? Yes. But that is because every sandwich is freshly made to order. i especially like that their prices aren’t typical airport prices and are the same as Thundercloud on the street.

Poor reflection of Austin! Pathetic service, sloppy food, and it’s obvious that the staff hate their jobs. I get it, no one wants to be at work, but pull yourself together for a couple of hours and at least pretend like you have an ounce of customer service experience…

I usually go to Thundercloud on Riverside once or twice a week, but that ends today after seeing how the AIBA location treats customers. Fail #1: No Italian subs or BLT? I order these every week at the other location, I know you can make it here. Fail #2: The loud little lady yells about how they only have what’s on the menu. What a foul, rude little woman. Fail#3: you gave me the wrong sandwich. How is that even possible, I just watched you make it! Fail#4: The loud little woman has the gall to say«God bless you» as I’m paying for my sandwich. I don’t need your blessings. Get it together Thundercloud. You are letting your brand suffer by having this horrible little makeshift restaurant in the airport. Open a location or don’t, no purpose in this bs.

I love thunderclouds subs. Unfortunately, I won’t patronize them again after today. After standing in a long line, with a crutch and a heavy backpack with my wife, we finally got to the counter. The attendant took my wife’s order and then helped the customer behind me, completely bypassing me. I didn’t get to place my order at all, and when the fact that I’d wanted to order something became apparent the staff did ABSOLUTELYNOTHING to rectify the situation. This is the worst service I’ve ever received at any restaurant. I don’t expect much at an airport restaurant, but this was beyond belief.

I wanted to grab a sub before getting on my flight and decided to try out Thundercloud. I ordered the classic club with no onions. My sub barely had bacon in it, but it was good overall. The downside is, I asked to omit the onions, my sandwich had onions. I didn’t check out my sub until we were already in flight. I’m glad I’m not deathly allergic to onions or else that flight would have been very interesting in a bad way. Besides the lack of bacon, the bread wasn’t stale and the rest was pretty standard for any sandwich joint. If I’m ever back in that part of the terminal, I could possibly pick up a sub there, but really, I wouldn’t be missing out.

Fast and friendly service with quality food, exactly what you’re looking for in an airport. I love coming to these guys because I know I’ll have a delicious Thundercloud sub within mere minutes and I can be on my way to the gate. Their ingredients are fresh(as with any Thundercloud location). My only complaint is they only offer the one size that’s a bit on the large size for me, but I’m sure having just the one size ups their efficiency(and it’s not overly large, just bigger than I can consume in one sitting and I often end up throwing 1/3−½ away). The people behind the counter are awesome and don’t dally, they know people are hurried to catch a flight. Perfect!

After a previous bad experience at another Thundercloud location, who knew I would find an good experience in airport food? Germaphobes rejoice! The Thundercloud at the airport has a person dedicated to running the register(not sandwich maker/cashier combo the stand alone shops have) AND they wear gloves to prepare their food! My sandwich was hot and delicious and the veggies were fresh and crisp. Try sprouts and lettuce on your nada chicken sandwich.

Middle of the road fast-food-ish sandwiches. About the same quality as a Quiznos, but slightly worse than a potbelly sandwich works. That being said, it’s convenient, fast, and cheap. I got the California club and it was just over $ 6 and didn’t really amaze or disappoint. The one high point was that the bacon was surprisingly crisp and not wilted in the normal way that it is after it’s been out forever in a little metal tub.

As far as Airport food goes, and we all know it can scary and you wonder about you’re intestinal livelihood, I was so happy Amy D. recommended Thundercloud Subs at the Airport and bonus for me when it was right next to my gate. The people here were super friendly. I perused the menu and was pretty happy with the offerings. I decided on a classic turkey sub on wheat with provolone, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion. They do have three types of mustard for those of you mustard lovers, regular, spicy, and honey mustard. I could tell my sandwich was made with love and there is only one size here, LARGE. I opted out of the chips and a drink and my sandwich was less than $ 6, now that’s a deal! I must have inhaled the sandwich, the veggies were fresh and crisp and they didn’t skimp either. It’s a solid tummy fill for a reasonable price that’s easy on the stomach and makes you smile. Thanks for the recommendation!

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I almost walked away halfway through the guy making my salad because he was so curt and condescending. Guy: What do you want? Me: Can I get an Austin Club Salad, please? Guy: Go get a salad from the case and give it to me. Me: I’m sorry, are you talking to me?(He didn’t once look up at me) Guy: Yeah, you, salad, go get it. I grab the salad base and hand it to him. Guy:(Snatches the box out of my hand) What cheese you want on it?(Now making eye contact in the form of a glare) Me: Provolone, please. Guy: Go pay. Too much attitude for only mediocre food. My recommendation: Pack a snack to eat at the airport while you wait for your flight.

Austin isn’t a big airport, but it’s easy to miss this sandwich shop. It’s worth seeking them out! I ordered the California club on white. Includes turkey, avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce. I added spicy mustard, pickles, and jalapenos. The people working behind the counter were friendly and efficient. I paid about $ 9. Pricey, but everything at any airport is pricey. When the sandwich was handed to me, I was surprised by the weight! They don’t skip on the ingredients! I saw sandwiches and wraps at other places half the size for about the same price! The sandwich was very good! The couple sitting next to me later asked where I got that wonderful smelling sandwich. Find this sandwich shop, you won’t be disappointed!

We all know it isn’t easy sourcing healthy fare in an airport, especially in Austin where tacos and BBQ convincingly beckon. Good thing I found Thundercloud Subs very early in — I’ve been to the Austin airport 18 times now(in 5 months), and TS has become my go-to healthier option. Sure, they serve all the usual lean proteins — turkey and thinly-sliced chicken — but because it’s Texas, everything is smoked. I’m a huge fan of the Austin Club(smoked chicken, avocado, bacon and your choice of cheese), but lately, I’ve been ordering the Veggie Delite on wheat. Its layers of cream cheese, avocado, sprouts, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers and onion won’t leave you asking, «where’s the beef?» Really, it’s a badass sandwich. And, if you want to go vegan, simply swap the cream cheese for the hummus. Disarmingly delicious! For about $ 5, I walk away with a meal on-the-go that won’t leave me feeling sluggish. The boys who work here are always attentive, smiley and have never missed a modification. Check ‘em out — they’re fast and they take all major credit cards.

Thundercloud is an Austin tradition and it’s cool they have them at the airport. This is a great place to get snacks for the plane. I would give it more stars but the service was surly. The guy making my subs was just unpleasant. I’m sure it’s not a great job, but it really makes me think twice about coming back it was that uncomfortable.

ABIA’s takes much pride in supporting local and that is evident with the addition of Thundercloud Subs to it’s list of dining options.(Now can we just get rid of Auntie Anne’s?) As many airport restaurants, the menu is limited compared to the other locations. My favorite, the roast beef, is not one of the menu options. The sandwiches only come in large. I ordered the turkey sub with provolone, lettuce, onions and tomato, salt and pepper on white. The vegetables were crisp and fresh and overall I enjoyed the sandwich. Looking for a semi healthy meal that does not limit yourself to fruit and salads can be a challenge when traveling. Surprisingly enough, Thunder Cloud Subs does not fair to bad(they list their nutritional information on their website). A couple things that could improve the experience is additional seating area near the restaurant and more frequent cleaning of the tables that are available nearby. Also it would be nice if they offered a few more sandwich options.
