They know how to make delicious food here. The tacos made at Tex-Mex Joe’s are exactly what tacos should be. The service was also exceptional. I don’t think my water glass was ever close to being empty, and the owners went out of their way to make sure my friend and I were taken care of. Give this place a shot if you want some delicious tacos or enchiladas!

Tex Mex Joe’s is one of secret spots that’s not been compromised by a Food a Network camera. It’s affordable, good and consistent. I absolutely suggest making the trip.

We were very disappointed to find a sign on the door stating that you were no longer honoring Entertainment Book coupons, despite the fact that the coupons were not yet expired. You entered into a contract when you agreed to have a coupon printed in the book. We have eaten at your restaurant before, without a coupon, and enjoyed our food; however, we will not be back. If you cannot honor your agreements, you do not warrant out business.

Great food & the owner is so nice. While eating I saw him help someone out to their car with to-go drinks & food.

Found this place on Unilocal and went in on a Friday night with 2 friends for a quick bite before an event. All 3 of us felt like we were sick after for the whole weekend. They had the cheese enchiladas, I had the Carne Guisada enchilada, so I could partially understand if I got some bad meat, but it hit them worse than me and it was just cheese, tortilla, beans and rice. Something is not right if all 3 people ordering similar things all get sick; you can’t just chalk that up to one person being sensitive or something similar. Not taking another chance, won’t be going here again.

Tamales, Tamales, Tamales! There used to be a place here in north Austin, Tamales Leo, weird name but great tamales! They are no longer in business and I haven’t found anything to fill the void… until now. Best. Damn. Tamales. I’ve every had. And I’ve had a bunch. Call ahead, I think they are seasonal only around Christmas, although he said they’d be selling until New Years. But order ahead, he said they were staying busy keeping up.

I still love this place after a year! They make their own corn tortillas! And I love the different types of migas plates, especially the chorizo migas.(Btw, if parking is tight, there’s more parking in the back.)

This is such a great place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Marco, the owner, is the sweetest and will greet you at the door. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. My favorite breakfast is the Bacon Migas with amazing corn tortillas and the plate comes with potatoes and beans… the salsa is great and the coffee is always hot. Try it! You’ll love it

Solid four! Lives up to the reviews. So good I ordered another taco. This place is busy during lunch due to the quality of the food. Will come back to have the plates and maybe they will earn a Five. Update: Third visit now and I have bumped them up to five. Homemade Corn Tortillas! Flavorful menudo and charro beans. «Microphone dropped»

4.20.15 and I needed to grab a fast lunch. To the Unilocal reviews I go. After frantically searching menus and coming to a conclusion to my car I went. I arrived at tex mex joes knowing I had limited time due to job constraints. When I found a space in the tight plaza I zipped in. A nice lady greeted me and I explained this was my first visit. She explained the menu and lunch special. I chose the combination lunch plate with a taco, chalupa and enchilada. As I waited the lady gave me a free beverage for being a kind first time customer. I thought cool, that will make folks remember the service in my opinion. It was a lunch rush so I was shocked that my order was out in ten minutes. I didn’t expect that seeing as how I was a walk in. I saw a few customers actually grab a meal to go. I figured something good must come out the kitchen for folks to eat and take some home. Yeah after getting back to my office I found out. After opening my to go plate there was something good under the hood. My enchilada was nice and had a decent sauce. The taco and chalupa both were crispy with a good meaty flavor. The rice and beans were good too. You should try them if in the area. I believe the prices are fair and you surely get back what you paid. I’m going back a long as things stay that way.

We also had the guacamole which was creamy mmm. We will definitely be back when we’re in town. The staff & owner were attentive & pleasant.

If you’re wanting a great breakfast taco don’t pass this place up. Yes we are in Austin and there are 1000 other places to get breakfast tacos but this is one of my favorites. The owner is quick to greet you at the door. The waitresses are quick to get your order and the food comes out quick. But icing on the cake for me wasn’t even part of my experience. A gentleman walks in and, while in mid conversation with a friend of his, the owner pauses and greets, by name, the customer. One thing that is almost just as important to me as the quality of the food is genuine hospitality and a place that they will know you by name.

I’m upgrading my review to 5 stars because the breakfast was really great. I had lunch here two days ago and it was really good and the breakfast today locked in the 5 stars. My friends had the machacado tacos and they said they were great. I know they smelled and looked delicious. I had the messycan burrito, which is two fried eggs, tater tots, cheese and your choice of bacon or sausage wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla. Delicious, I don’t know why more places don’t use fried eggs in their burritos. The flavor is different from scrambled and it works really well with the other ingredients. Their red and green salsas are great and they combine to make a fantastic tasting, fresh, spicy salsa that makes the food pop with flavor. The server was friendly and the coffee refills were plentiful. Will definately return.

This was a great Tex mex place for lunch. When we walked in we were seated immediately. The chips and hot sauce came out quick also. The hot sauce was really delicious. Not to mild but not too spicy. The chips were fresh and crisp. Tasted homemade. Lunch special included tea or fountain drink for about $ 8. I got the loco platter it was great. It came with a enchilada beef or cheese witch ever you prefer. I got cheese. The chili gravy was flavorful and robust, some of the best I’ve had. It also came with a chalupa and taco. They were both great. The taco meat had a lot of flavor and the shell was so fresh. It can with lettuce, tomato and cheese. The. Chalupa had the taco meat plus their delicious refried beans with cheese lettuce and tomato. The refried beans and Mexican rice were delicious also. Definitely going back here for lunch it was worth it.

Good food at a great price. Definitely come here for the lunch special. The food is well prepared and delivered to your table in a very reasonable amount of time, so it’s great if you have an hour break to go out and eat. The complimentary salsa served with chips was very tasty and the chips seem to be from a bag, but are warmed up before being served, so I didn’t complain. For lunch, I had cheese enchiladas and my friend had chicken fajitas. The cheese enchiladas were served with a tomatillo sauce that was sour, but worked with the cheese. The chicken fajitas were well cooked and the waitress came by to ask if we wanted more tortillas for it, which I thought was a really nice gesture. The service was friendly, fast and efficient. We never had a second when our drinks or our chips and salsa weren’t full. The décor of the place was very tasteful and wasn’t overly gaudy like some Mexican restaurants can be. A very good experience for a very good price!

This has to be one of the best Mexican food hole in the wall restaurants in Austin. Starting from the beginning, it’s easy to get to and plenty of parking. Walk in and you’re greeted with a smile. The menudo is the best I’ve had since Dona Rosas in pasadena, ca :). None in Austin has been able to compare sooooo yeah hominy and everything. Just great. The stuffed chicken breast(stuffed with spinach and chorizo) was so tender and moist. The charro beans were made in a way that the beans were really showcased, not too much salt not too much bacon just right! They had a good selection of Mexican beers, sodas and Jugos. Their green salsa was spicy and yummy, their red was good too!!! Chips were fresh and very corny. Haha corny. The tortillas were nice and warm, kept in their little tortilla holder. The carne Asada tacos, man was that some good carne Asada!!! Avocados were fresh, lettuce and tomatoes too. Oh! And the chocolate tres leches holy balls. I’ve never had chocolate tres leches, it had a layer of chocolate mousse stuff on top, YUM!!! I’ll probably be back for dinner and then breakfast tomorrow to have some more. *chunky monkey time**

I am from San Antonio so I am pretty critical of breakfast tacos. This place was delicious. I would probably stick to the tacos though, the person I was with didn’t care much for his huevos rancheros. The tacos are a good size and had lots of flavor, especially when paired with the salsa. The service is the best! You can tell the owner really cares about his customers. There was a slight mistake with my order and he got it fixed in less than a minute. I never had to ask for coffee, it was always refilled. My server was new but she couldn’t have done a better job! Now on to price, this place is ridiculously cheap, in a good way. There were no 4 dollar tacos like some other places you see around town. I like breakfast tacos because they’re delicious but I also want them to be decently priced. Tex Mex Joes has this part down. Definitely have found my new weekend morning taco spot!

(#88) I truly hate to write a bad review for a place that is so Highly rated on Unilocal, but I put this on myself for not actually Looking at the reviews… Please understand, I show NO disrespect to the folks that have eaten here, but when you have less then 20 reviews, how serious are you about your food… and your reviews… a 3 sentence statement is not a review in my book… This joint is number 88, yes 88 different Mex/Tex Mex place we have eaten at… We have shoveled in our fair share of food… First this place needs some A/C work… we overly hot, almost uncomfortable. Service was good, its small and they try there best for sure… Chips, Salsa and Queso hit the table… Salsa had a bit of spice, chips were fresh and crisp… Queso was good. BUT for $ 8…NO way… just cant see the justice in that price… I do understand the overhead for a small place, but we were just both shocked… On to the Enchiladas… Of course… wife goes beef, double rice… portion was small for $ 8 and to add an extra was $ 3 more… decent flavor on the beef and rice. Nothing to write home about… Guess mine was the kicker for the one Star… Carne Guisada Enchiladas… Paper thin cheese enchiladas covered with Carne…3 Pieces Of Carne…3…Three…(See Photo)…I was lost at this point… for $ 8.29 for 2 and $ 10.50 for 3 we were done at this point… Beans were good, home made for sure… They do charge extra for A lot of stuff… tortillas, ranchero sauce, etc… Sadly this will not be returning… ON to the next adventure!
