I ate lunch here today. I wanted to like, well it just not that good. Friendly staff, food just okay.

Worst tacos Iv’e ever had…
If you are an American who’s never had a breakfast taco before, this place is for you! The tacos were cold right after we picked them up, they put eggs in the tacos (i’m vegan), and the taco’s were so bland all I could taste was bad salsa and eggs! Would NOT recommend.

Been here 3 x. My coworkers dig it I dont. I just come to chill and leave work for a bit. I dont eat here anymore. To each their own. Hispanic male whose always at the register in the mornings needs to smile sometimes.

The fish tacos were dry to the point that they should not have been served. For the cost they should be on top of everything… one of the few drive through taco places in Austin its a shame they aren’t better. Fresh blood needs to be pumped into that location to ring it up to standards… there are plenty of places to get great tacos in Austin… this is not one of them.

Loved this place. Stopped by at noon on Saturday. A bit put off because they only were serving breakfast tacos, but it made up for it in quality. Fresh ingredients, lovingly & well made. The staff was spot on. In and out, we ate at the counter. My son didn’t want a breakfast taco but I convinced him to get the steak fajita breakfast taco and he said it was the best one he’s had in Texas. I will go back here in a heartbeat.
The only word of warning: only go into the bathroom if you can do your duty standing up. It was truck stop rough.

Let me state: I love me some Taco Shack tacos to start my Saturday mornings but lately the service here has been … Wavering.
I go to this location since it’s convenient with its drive thru but almost every time (at least the last 4 times I’ve gone) I’ve ended up with the wrong order. From small things like adding extra ingredients, missing whole tacos, to being charged for something completely different than what I ordered… It’s happened.
I wonder if they switched management within the last 1 – 2 years?
Solution: There is a taco shack on 29^th and Guadalupe St. While it doesn’t have a drive thru, they are pretty good about making sure your order is correct. :)

If you consider taco bell Mexican food, then you’ll like this place. I paid $ 5.00 for a freaking barbacoa taco with a side (sliver) of avocado. The tacos are the size of my hands, and I have small hands. Try your luck at a taco truck in the hood

I’ve lived in Central Austin for 35 years, so I know breakfast tacos. Taco Shack is Tex-​Mex slop. The only reason I go there is because it’s convenient. The refried beans are runny and flavorless. The tortillas are store-​bought and cold. The cheese is cheese product. The salsa tastes like ketchup. The potatoes taste like they’re freezer-​burned. I don’t care if it’s «authentic» or not. I just want it to be good. Oh how I miss the days when I lived across the street from Joe’s Bakery.

One word: BEVO!!!

There is a funny name to the fish tacos. It was delicious. But the next day I had the runs. Thank you taco shack for giving me a stomach virus!

There should be a symbol on Unilocal that immediately shows whether the reviewer is from the town that the business is in. I get the feeling that the bad reviews on this place are from out of towners. I know all people have their own opinions but when it comes to Taco Shack, it seems many people have WRONG OPINIONS.
That being said, and being born and raised here in atx, I’ve been eating here or’ the liv long day. I have not had the taconsistancy that the shack serves up anywhere else. Perfect every time. Every time. I cannot consider the prices cheap per say but when u compare them to anywhere in this town, they are average… but they ARE filled. I’ll pay 3 $ a taco. Shoot, I’ll pay 5 $ at torchys but I expect it to be full. And the shack delivers the bulk for the buck.
Also, let’s talk about speed, especially at this location, with 4 people in front of me, we parked, ordered, and drove away with 4 tacos in under 45seconds. No lie. They people were very nice as always and the food was perfect, like every time. Don’t listen to these 2 star fools. The don’t know taco.

Totally ‘meh’. Ended up here because I didn’t want to deal with the lines at the taco place up the road. There’s a reason why there was no line here. Got the cheese enchiladas. Think Velveeta style melted cheese, mediocre rice, mediocre beans. The sauce on the enchiladas was the only part that was remotely ok.
Also, everything is served in disposable ware. Even a plastic fork. Why bother asking if it’s for ‘here or to go’ if it doesn’t matter?
No reason to come back.

OLD BARBACOA BEEF.
Bought two barbacoa tacos and a side of refried beans. The total price came up to about $ 9.00 bucks pretty steep for three items but I was hopeful that it would be reflected in the quality. Boy was I off base. The beans were good, pretty tasty. The barbacoa though was awful. I’ve had my fair share of gas station barbacoa all over, and this wasn’t just a bad recipe, it was old, foul smelling, truly atrocious beef. I cleaned it up and it still tasted gross, I added onions and it was still terrible. I am pretty sure I was sold days old meat. If I had a weaker stomach, I’d expect to be sick.
Really horrifically bad beef.

Love this place! I am always greeted by the nicest guy at the counter. Breakfast tacos in Texas are good and between the «chain» Cabana and this local hot spot this place wins.
I’m a fan of sausage and egg but have heard from friends that I should explore some of the other dishes. That’s next on my bucket list.
Clean, plenty of seating, and friendly staff makes this a Unilocal favorite of mine.

Awesome breakfast tacos I got 2 taco shack tacos. It’s lights fulfilling you really only need to eat one. It took about 5 minutes for them to make my tacos super fast and convenient.

Went there today for brunch. Good choice of tacos. Fast service and good food.
The staff is friendly and the service is great. Recommend the taco shack tacos.

Shocking that this place has 77 reviews and averages only 2 stars. Do you know how hard it is to average 2 stars on Unilocal?
After reading through most of the reviews, it seems to be typical Awfulstin nonsense. Maybe if they served out of a filthy trailer they would be seen in a more favorable light by the discerning foodies in this gastric capital.
I previously reviewed the downtown location but I believe I took off a star because of their limited hours. Since this location is open during normal hours and has their «lunch» menu offered on the weekends, I will have to give them the 5 stars they deserve.
Taco Shack has the best crispy tacos I’ve ever had.
I think I was able to order 5 crispy tacos and a Mia’s special (small cheese quesadilla) for under $ 10. Excellent value.

Really enjoy their tacos and their enchilada plates. Their enchilada plates are typical for a Mexican restaurant, yet very good. They’ll leave you satisfied without a doubt. Their tacos are really good too, pretty much your typical tacos as well. Nothing too fancy. Enjoy both their breakfast and lunch tacos. Been here over 15 times, only messed up my order once. Highly recommended. Very cheap as well.
Edit: Haven’t been as impressed with them lately, probably because I’ve been visiting some of the better taco restaurants in town so I moved it down a star.
