This place is ok. The back patio smelled like trash, really badly & they had a mediocre reggae band blaring inside the bar. Drinks are overpriced & parking sucks but the bartenders were friendly & if that band hadn’t shown up the inside ambience would’ve been pretty nice.

I’ve been here a few times, in the winter and now in the summer. I definitely enjoy the vibe. I have ordered old-fashioneds and a few vodka based drinks. avg price is avg for the area around $ 8-$ 10/drink. The old-fashioned is definitely not the best I’ve had but it’s the live music and ambiance you are staying for, not the drinks. But I’ll order more drinks to enjoy the music and cool lighting and booths. I’ve never been outside but there is a seating area outside near some food trucks. Swear last time I was here there was a 10 piece band and a girl playing the tuba. amazing. I had a great time and will be back.

This place changed my life. I got sick of waiting in line for BBQ so decided to wander into the random bar next door. And boy am I glad I did. Yacht Rock Sunday brunch was in full effect and every bit as awesome as it sounds. And their specialty margarita is one of the best I’ve ever had. Do yourself a solid and check this place out while you’re in Austin.

A friend and I were visiting Austin for the weekend, we came to Stay Gold all three days. The live music was great and there was no cover. Sunday brunch was great, mimosas on the back patio were the perfect way to end our trip. Staff were friendly and attentive. We met a very friendly local here who gave us lots of great information about the neighborhood. I highly recommend this bar. I’ll be back very soon.

FANTASTIC food truck, and quality drinks. Got a Bloody Mary and a grilled cheese. What else can you ask for? Outdoor patio is a major plus as well.

The bar is a nice place, good cocktails and beer selection. But i paid something like $ 8 for a grilled cheese sandwich. I know what you’re thinking: «why would you order a grilled cheese? In no situation would that satisfy a growning boy such as yourself. And you could clearly see the price when you ordered said sandwich, why did you go through with the transaction? This is all your own doing» I would agree with your statement, but also note the sandwich was particularly good, but still overpriced.

Our group went on a Friday night around 8PM so it was not crowded and there were plenty of open seats both inside and outside. Drinks were well made and affordable. I really enjoyed my champagne lemon cocktail and my husband really enjoyed his Stay Gold margarita that he liked. Service was prompt. I did find the live band that was playing very unique especially their rendition of «I will Survive» but my group seemed to be entertained by it. Nice spot to hang out with friends. Lighting was intimate inside yet not too dark you can’t see each other’s faces. They had a food truck outside(Toasters) where the outdoor seats are serving various things like grilled cheese and tomato soup. I’m noticing a trend in Austin where food trucks are conveniently located right near bars. I love it! I’d return.

We decided to go out after a long time, and selected Stay Gold, because of all the awesome things we had heard about it and the up and coming area of East Cesar Chavez. Its further east than we though it was, but on a cool night, its a pleasant walk. It has a good amount of parking, a food trailer park, live music inside with a lot of seating, really good drinks, large outdoors patio and its pet friendly. It was pleasantly lit up outside and the inside was slightly dark for my liking, but I guess it sets the mood up for the music. All in all a really great experience.

My new neighborhood watering hole on the east side. Went here with my wife the other night for a friend’s birthday and we had a great time. The perfect dark and cozy interior with a speakeasy vibe. Tastefully done. The bar staff was friendly and ready to serve. The drinks were solid and affordable. And the music was great! Great jazz spot. Back patio was nice and spacious also, plenty of open seating. Stay Gold is just what I’ve been looking for on the east side. A cool bar that knows what their doing and welcomes everyone. Local or not. Don’t forget to tip your barkeep and stay gold!

The Good: I love the look of Stay Gold, they definitely brought that East Austin«stay weird» vibe with their gold ashtrays, chairs and tables made out of pallets, and a seating area inside of a container bar. They also had a vinyl record player DJ spinning some tunes. The bartenders served up some great drinks as well. The food trailer Toasters also served up some unique items. Their special of the day was a toasted sandwich with bacon, goat cheese, apples and arugula. Was pretty good! The bad: I wasn’t a fan of the Mac and cheese though. I love peppered cheese but not paired with a sweet sandwich or anything else on the menu. The chicken tacos were tasty(I Absolutely loved the jalapeño crunch they put on top) but did not like the pickled onions. If you’re not a fan of sour ask them to place it to the side.

One of the coolest places Ive been to in a long long time. The inside is really nice and open. A tad on the dark side, but I like it to be a little dark. The outdoor seating area is really really cool with covered benches. There’s a food truck out back but I dont recall the name. The regulars here seem really laid back and didnt give me the stare down when I walked in. The bartenders were both very nice and you could easily tell they knew how to handle the bar. This seems like it would also be a great place to see a live show. Some DJ was playing while I was there but the stages seems perfect for a small show.

Very cool, chill Eastside bar. I was all cocktail-ed out at this point, so I chose a canned local beer — they also have some beer on tap! Next time though, I’m definitely trying one of their cocktails — maybe Texas by the Tail(Buffalo Trace Bourbon, lime juice, allspice dram, bitters, simple syrup) or the Black Bee(gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and blackberries)? They have great outdoor seating! And Toaster — a food truck — is parked in the back! Boy do I wish I was hungry last night when we were there! The vegetarian options all sounded amazing — tomato soup grilled cheese, the baked mac and cheese, hardcore corn(creamed), pierogis, and the DESSERTGRILLEDCHEESE(blueberry, blackberry, brie, and dark chocolate)!! Going back for cocktails and food!

I love this place. I’ve been driving for lyft and get a ton of rides to/from this little spot and everyone has raved. So, I found myself there on a Saturday night with some friends. Little did I know, they had a very talented blues/funk band which I could have spent the entire night listening to. The place was packed, but the bartenders attentive and friendly. We decided to try the outdoor seating(where there is also a food truck) but found that it was populated with smokers, so not as enjoyable as we were hoping. They have a ton of indoor seating though, and fun chairs that swivel(I took advantage!). I really love this place for the bartenders, ambiance and music. It isn’t pretentious, fully enjoyable and will get your night going.

Did I know E. Cesar Chavez had such lovely bars… No. But after trying Stay Gold, I do now! This bar is very spacious. There’s the indoor lounge for more private conversations. I like the outdoor patio with its open container box lounge. Did I mention there’s plenty of parking? No need to frantically find metered parking. If you have the munchies the Toaster food truck’s mac n cheese and creamed corn are delicious! This is also a dog friendly bar so bring those furry friends and have a good time!

I stopped in here during SXSW for the first time and I have already been back … this bar is super cool! On my first visit we randomly decided to get out of our Über car on East Cesar Chavez instead of going to east 6th. I remembered that Stay Gold was in the area and on my bookmark list. When we walked in I immediately could just feel the vibe. It was totally my kind of place and I felt at home here. They had a great selection of cocktails and beers on tap. There is also a small stage inside and we were able to catch a band — Prinze George and they were totally awesome and one of the best shows I saw during the festival. The patio here is totally rad too. There is a food truck of course like all the cool bars these days and plenty of comfortable seating with a covered area as well. Stay Gold has definitely found a soft spot in my heart and I shall return! Cheers!

Stay Gold is a wonderful addition to the ever growing east side area off of Cesar Chavez. When we walked into the dark room it felt like sort of a dive but once my eyes adjusted I noticed the swanky décor and seating. The atmosphere feels like a speakeasy with seating set up to easily see the stage. The large outdoor patio is lit up with zig zagging strings of lights and has comfortable seating. The Toaster food trailer is in the works with a comfort food meets Thai concept. The stage is put to use nightly as they have musicians and/or DJs performing every day. Their happy hour is offered daily from 3 p.m. to 8 p. m and include $ 5 beers, $ 3 wells and $ 7 specialty cocktails. The cocktail list is a nice mix of classics and some of their own creations. Wines are sold by the split and most are $ 15 a bottle. We sat at the bar and ordered the E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone and a Ballast Point Sculpin beer. The fellow customers and the bartenders were all super friendly and in good spirits. I look forward to coming back to see live music and to give that food trailer a try!

At last! Just what Austin was missing. A cool place, a great vibe, good music and solid cocktail. I’m so happy that stay gold is around. They’ve done an incredible job of striking a balance between swanky sexy and comfy. I will live here as long as i can before its overrun.
