This man is Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde personified. I was sent to Spindel because it was believed I had GERD. He was very friendly on the first visit, offered two diagnostic options: scope or upper GI with contrast. I chose the later. He recommended I stay on Nexium if it helped me and so I did. I had a flare up months later and went back to him. This visit was completely the opposite of the first. He walked in and didn’t greet me at all other than to say«what can I do for you?» It wasn’t a friendly«what can I do for you at all.» I explained what was happening and he was cold and short, said«well, you clearly didn’t want to do what I wanted, which was to scope you so I don’t know what you expect.» This didn’t set well with me and I got up, told him he gave two options and if he only wanted the one option so he could charge me more to scope me, why didn’t he say that he had to scope me. I walked out on him and when I went to check out at the front desk, I was asked how the appt went. I told his person at the front desk it was lousy, that Spindel was a zero and that I would never come back. I never did go back. I did get scoped but by someone else all together, who was actually very good. Later, I spoke to a friend who has been a nurse in Austin for years and told her about Spindel. She looked at me and said, no one sends anyone to Spindel unless they want to abuse them– he’s an A … and you can fill in the blanks from there. She never says anything bad about anyone. The long and the short is don’t go here. He’s useless.

This is BYFAR the worst doctor I have ever been to. Halfway through an appointment in which he completely disrespected both me and my husband, we left. At least we got a refund. If you need a gastroenterologist, go to Alice Friedman. Dr. Spindel did not listen to any of my concerns – instead, he continuously interrupted me to tell me *how exactly* he wanted me to express the pain I was feeling. I was interrupted so often that I got flustered and no longer knew where to start, so my husband jumped in and received the same disrespectful treatment. How the hell is a doctor supposed to diagnose your problems when he won’t even listen? To boot, when he walked in the office he did not even say hello or make eye contact before asking me to describe what was wrong with my ass. His interpersonal communication skills leave much to be desired. He is so rigid and ego-centric that if you do not conform your illness to his liking, he becomes visibly angry, cold, and obstinate. MAJOR problem for a doctor, who is there to help heal people. Alice Friedman, on the other hand, is extremely professional, thorough, and respectful. She actually listened to my concerns, and uncovered a serious condition that Dr. Spindel would not take the time to figure out. BOTTOMLINE: See someone else. Dr. Spindel is too self-involved to possibly focus on anyone else long enough to diagnose them.
