I play WAKA Dodgeball at this recreation center. It’s tucked into a nice residential neighborhood and easy to get to from South First since there is a light that you can turn at! I haven’t seen the complete facility but, what I did use was nice. The gym is large and has multiple courts and a nice divider so, we can play dodgeball and people can still shoot hoops on the other side. They have a lobby area with tables and chairs and then a reception desk. I noticed next door that they have a tennis center and outdoor courts! The only draw back I saw was that the parking lot was very small considering how many teams were there to play dodgeball. I would suspect that if you came on a regular weekday or weekend you would be able to find parking without a problem. There is also ample street parking!

This rec center sits right in the middle of the Bouldin Creek community and has many resources available(most of them free!) for families to enjoy and participate in. There are dance classes(break dancing) offered for the community for a small fee(less than $ 20 that’s for sure) as well as opportunities to sign up to participate in karate, basketball, soccer, and other sports. There is a nice kept up baseball field outside with limited seats in the stands for you to watch games go on as well as even a foosball table!!! Foosball is free and the table is pretty decent considering how many kiddos bang it around. Often times there are arts and crafts and special activities for students in a large room filled with 4 – 5 computers to use. You may have to ask the nice front desk ladies or men if you could use the computers though. Great rec center right in the heart of South Austin that is easily accessible in terms of parking and resources being offered to the community.

I was in town visiting a friend and I decided to join him for some volleyball practice at the South Austin Recreation Center. It seemed to be a pretty active group of regulars. It was free to play and it was possibly to play almost constantly or sit out just one game before getting back on the court. The gym had two volleyball courts with a curtain wall to prevent balls from flying on to the other courts. They also had a very helpful sign in sheet for joining games and playing 6 on 6 volleyball. One complaint I had was the fact that the basketball goals down and it made it difficult to serve on one of the courts. In the lobby area they had two pool tables and the bathrooms as well as a single drinking fountain(it was really old and they could have used more than one). I didn’t have an opportunity to check out the outdoor amenities but it seemed like a great place to go and get some recreational sports action in! Summer Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday 1pm — 9pm Friday 1pm — 6pm Saturday 9am — 3pm Sunday 1pm — 5pm(Volleyball only) Check out the website for additional list of amenities.
