Some of my favorite ribs, in a city where BBQ is king, mainly because the strawberry habanero glaze is incredible. Great sandwiches! Amazing coleslaw(mustard base).

Wow. Just wow. Incredible good. Came here with a large group from work. They are able to handle large parties. The food was amazing. The ribs fall off the bone. They made a special sandwich for me. The sides were fantastic.

Rather good BBQ sandwiches. I definitely love the Two Step. The beans aren’t consistent though. The thing I hate most are their hours. On Friday and Saturday night they close at 9. That’s ridiculous for a place with a bar on the weekend. Sundays they close at 6. Blech. I still recommend though.

I’ve eaten here numerous times, starting with the killer grand opening they did a couple years ago. It’s good food, unique way of serving bbq and it’s pretty convenient to where I work, so that’s nice as well. I usually get the same thing, but today I tried something new. I don’t even remember the sandwich I got, but it was really good. My only complaint is that it was $ 12.44 for a sandwich, fountain drink and a really small side of the potato casserole. At lunch time I’m generally trying to keep it under $ 10, so I wasn’t too thrilled to learn that adding a fountain drink and small side was $ 4 extra. Holy hell.

Slab BBQ just kills me – in a good way. Finally had the BBQ ribs this time — oh, my, heavenly, with the glaze. I always get the sliders. The food here is just awesome. Love it. My new favorite BBQ joint in Austin.

Had The Donk and El Jefe. Both were great, full of flavor and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is nice, the place is clean and the staff is very friendly. Too bad I can’t pick this place up and take it back home with me.

Definitely good BBQ. You get a lot of food too for your money. They have a nice little bar setup in the middle of the eating area. We came here after church one Sunday. Again we had so much food we had to get to go boxes because we couldn’t eat it all. It was so good but fills you up very well. Definitely try their nachos. I like those a lot.

WOW! Wow! Wow! Visiting from Vegas for work and my girlfriend checked Unilocal for ideas. We came to Slab and it was as good as the reviews. I got the Donk and it was amazing. The first bite was Nirvana — my girlfriend said she wished she had video’d my reaction as it was priceless — just a rush of taste. It was 1lb and I never thought I’d eat the whole thing and it was so good I did! Wow. Thanks Slab!

Just got in from the airport to visit some family, and wanted some good olé Texas BBQ. Got to admit, this place was pretty tasty. Great staff, great service, great food. You’ve got to try the strawberry habanero ribs.

My heart is seriously breaking at making my review less than 5 stars. While I want to give the ultimate perfection, I just can’t do it this time. I don’t live on this side of town, so literally never even heard of this place before I Unilocaled it. I love the absolute laid back feel of this place. I dig that it’s super kid friendly, but still a sports bar feel. Pretty sure the owner is tending bar, and has his own kids working the joint. The family that ques together… I ordered the sliders(non menu item) which consisted of my choice of notorious pig, Texas og, and tony Montana. I can’t tell them apart, minus the beef selection in the middle. It’s entirely too much food for me to consume, so I try a little of each. First pork, was dangggg good. Pickles totally make it salacious, in a pg manner. Next brisket. Sauces are pulling at my taste buds. The third pork though. Something missed the mark. The meat…(Don’t kill me…) dry. How did that happen from the first one? I dunno! This is where my 4 stars comes in. While I can easily see it being a 5 to others, I had to downgrade it for the slight inconsistency. My kid got chicken nachos and they were ahhhhhmazing. I think I ate half of them. Digging those way too much. I also enjoyed how they displayed on the tv’s who was drinking what. That way you can keep your buddies in check. And make sure they aren’t drinking crappy beer. Ha! This place is cool in its own right. I hope to return and make my heartbreaking 4 into a 5!

I’ve had a lot of bbq in Texas and it’s a great sandwich but not necessarily a bbq joint. We order the Texas two step, Chicken WA, green bean casserole, BBQ baked beans and twice baked potatoes. I got my sauce on the side and love the option to choose your own. You can try all of them if you like. It wasn’t too busy and the service took a little long. But when we did get our food I noticed the portions are a great size for the price! However the bread is too crumbly and my sandwich didn’t stay together. Overall it’s good and I’ll be back because the price is right but I’m not dying to go back.

UPDATED: Fast forward to November 28. I was to be in the area for a Unilocal Burger of the Month event and the Lady figured out that I was going to be close to SLAB and so the story begins. She went though her pleasant, then demanding, then suffering styles to get me to get some items from SLAB. When I realized that her next step would be to pour gasoline over herself and then ask for a light, I agreed. I had a number of stops I had to make on the 28th, and as I am allergic to I-35HWY, I was driving all over Austin. During my driving, from home where the Lady is recovering from surgery, she called in «A custom order».(Warning Flags wave in my brain). I was to pick it up after the Unilocal event, but it turned out I picked up «The custom order» over an hour early beforehand. As I was early, I came in and asked if could be prepared for me then as I had a heat retaining bag. They quickly obliged and the gentleman who had talked to the Lady of the house insisted on preparing it himself. The thing about brisket, in my humble opinion, is that each minute after it has been sliced it starts to degrade in flavor and texture. So, here is how their brisket items went over. The brisket meat was absolutely delicious. I ensured this as soon as I got into the car and almost went into shock. The Lady was going to love it as it was EXACTLY like she likes it. I then parked at the Dominion and locked the brisket in the temperature bag in the trunk as there was no way I was going to get it near the Unilocaler Army Ants at the event that was going to start soon. After returning home, about 4 hours after obtaining the order, the Lady and I started chewing, no make that cramming, the food into our mouths. Four hours after cutting and it was still delicious. We focused on the brisket this time and it was a good choice, a very good choice. When we next return and eat there, I will zero in on the Texas O. G, which has Prime Angus Brisket, pickles, onions and sauce. However, I plan to have everything except the brisket on the side as I want to taste that excellent brisket without outside influence and have the outside influences eaten on their own as they are really good also, especially the pickles. I am not going to compare SLAB to any other business as I feel that what you like best is the best. The staff was once again very friendly, accommodating, and the place was quite clean. A job very well done and I am wagging my tail!

These guys don’t f&*# around! I love that about them and couldn’t help but think that on my first visit as a trio of sliders were laid before me. Upon my first bite I thought, these guys are legit. On the second slider, I thought, damn these sliders are good. By the time I got to the third slider, I thought again, these guys really aren’t f&#$ing around! Not only are they generous in their portions(sorely lacking in Austin these days unfortunately), but you can tell that they go all in. There is care is visible in what they do and I’m always respect that. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to see that care results in some delicious eats. I first came here on a Tuesday for lunch. I had the privilege of meeting their marketing director, Jason. He was going around checking in with each table to see if anyone needed anything. What I loved was you could tell he genuinely cared that you were enjoying your meal and that he would be happy to grab you anything if you needed it. We talked a bit about Slab and what they’re about as well as their awesome 90s hip hop playlist. Later, at not on that same day, I went to an event and had no idea Slab BBQ would have a table there. Jason and I both laughed at the coincidence having just met earlier. We got to talk some more and I also got to meet Mark, the man behind it all. Mark loaded me up on their ribs and stuffed jalapeños. I was already planning on coming back very soon to try their ribs, so this was a treat. The ribs had a light char on the outside yet remained fall off the bone juicy. They had a dry rub with a strawberry habanero glaze. Delicious! I cleaned those bones off so quickly and enjoyed every second of it. In fact, I’m considering proposing to the ribs. Then there were the stuffed jalapeños with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon… need I say more?!(I will note that these jalapeños are only available through their catering services). I’ve been back a couple of times since bringing friends who are new fans of them now too. You can’t really go wrong with anything your order as I’ve now had most of their menu. These guys are dope!

The ribs… the ribs… oooh the ribs… Almost a sensual experience… so tender, seasoned… and that strawberry-habanero glaze(you can get without if you’d like… by why??) is dang near life changing. Its a clean cute spot, the beer selection is friendly and on tuesday those ribs are half price. oooh yeh. I had the baked beans(meh.too sticky and sweet) and the tater salad… which was promising if they add more celery salt or salt in general and mustard and a little white vinegar… then that salad would be the biziness! But those ribs tho… wow.

The green bean casserole! Try it! I came here an hr before closing(6pm) so they were out of the hash and nachos. I went with the texas two step sandwich($ 8) and green bean casserole($ 4). The sandwich had a little too much sauce. You can choose two meats. The sandwich itself was alright, not something I would come back for. Now the green bean casserole, definitely coming back for it. It was steaming hot, which is how I like my food. Had mushrooms and cheese in it. I loved every bite of it!

Unfortunately the BBQ wasn’t all that special to me. Obviously I wasn’t expecting top-tier, but while the flavors of the Notorious P.I.G. weren’t bad, it just didn’t really stand out to me at all. The bun was also pretty standard. Since it was recommended by Unilocalers, I tried the green bean casserole and was very, very disappointed. It literally just tasted like gravy. The green beans may as well have not been included at all, as they added no flavor or texture or anything. However, I do like the atmosphere and style of this joint. Perhaps if I get the chance, I’ll try other things on the menu that may be more my style.

We both got the Sammy where you pick 3 sliders. All of them were awesome. Clean place lots of TVs — only thing that makes me mad is why we have not come here sooner? This is the towns best kept secret so far… Notes — The 3 I chose were: Texas Two Step, Tony Montana, & Brown Cow Brown Cow(aka BCBC) and all 3 were ridiculous. The green bean casserole was good too. It’s nice you can order your food quickly in line and they bring it to you. After that you can head to the bar and get drinks. I like that they are separate to keep the line moving fast. We waited a whole 3 minutes for food & drinks, the service was good & Fast.

I can’t move. Traveling to Austin on business with a couple of free hours to spare and an empty belly, I found myself looking for BBQ and a beer. Slap BBQ& Beer seemed rather appropriately named, so I gave it a shot. I was greeted by super friendly staff who were eager to take me through their beers(many of which were on special for $ 3.50) and then on a tour of the menu. Being the consumate piglet I am, I settled on The Donk, a ridiculous sandwich with basically every meat that instantly fell apart on my platter. I was in love. Also, now I can’t move. Great food, great beer, friendly staff, good prices. I will return.

I’d like to award more stars here, alas, I was not overtly impressed by most of the food here. Don’t get me wrong — the atmosphere is nice and funky, everyone was friendly and it was mainly good eats. Let’s break this down into pro’s and con’s: Pros: As said above, nice funky atmosphere that has that Austin vibe. Good music playing, big bar, decently flowing line with knowledgeable and helpful cashiers. The pork ribs with strawberry-habenero glaze were the best thing we had here, hands down. Moist, fall off the bone with a sweet zippy finish that everyone at our table loved. I would come back for these most definitely. Plenty of parking is always awesome. Cons: I got the BBQ salad with chicken. It had a healthy amount of lettuce but I wasn’t fond of the coleslaw — it overwhelmed everything else, such as the abundance of chopped pickles which were really good. The chicken was dry, with only a light smoky flavor to it. I also found blue-green marks on one of my pieces of chicken that was either some sort of marker or chalk. I set it aside and didn’t eat it, which was a bummer considering the meager portion of chicken that was on my salad. My Mom got the BBQ hash which was… weird at best. The rice just didn’t go well with the BBQ. My husband got the Notorious P.I.G. and said it was decent, but not amazing, which was the same way my Dad felt about his The Link sandwich. All in all, I’m awarding three stars right now the middle. It was good, and I applaud the nice ambiance and helpful staff — as well as some of the creativity in the dishes and their names. The barbecue beyond those ribs, however, was just not enough to earn those last two stars.
