Although Dr. Sheppard’s office and staff were very helpful and friendly, I felt that she was lacking in her recommendations for treatment. She was extremely knowledgable about the rare condition that I was diagnosed with, and went into extreme detail when explaining the condition, and how it occurs. Unfortunately she did not feel necessary to take any precautions or manage my pregnancy any different. After doing my own research, I have discovered just how serious the condition is(untreated cases result in almost 95% infant mortality). It was clear that following her recommended treatment plan(or lack thereof) would have likely occured in a poor outcome. Because my primary OBGYN was going along with her recommendations, I had to seek medical treatment elswhere, more than half way through the pregnancy. My new doctor and specialist agreed that I should be hospitalized at 28 weeks for daily monitoring, and bed rest, and c-section should occur no later than 35 weeks, due to the possibility of fetal hemorrhage. Dr. Sheppard’s staff also required that I pay a large sum toward my insurance deductable before treatment, although I had met my deductable with my primary OBGYN, but the system had not been updated. I received confirmation from my insurance company, after the fact, that the visit should have only required a co-pay amount. I still await the difference to be refunded despite numerous calls.

Dr. Sheppard is the best. We saw her under some pretty awful circumstances, and she really helped us get through it. She’ll tell you the truth and does it professionally and with a heart, which can’t be easy to do in these kinds of circumstances. And unlike a lot of people in her field, she actually acknowledges the dad when you are there. She was the absolute best for my wife, though, and I’m glad she’s with us for our second pregnancy. You know you are in good hands with her.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Sheppard and her incredible staff at Hill Country Maternal Fetal Medicine. They are all kind, efficient and easy to talk to, which means a lot. We first visited her in 2009 when we had a tough situation in our first pregnancy, she helped us through it and, in fact, was good enough to convince our ob/gyn at time to delay c-section to allow a little more time for baby in utero. We are seeing her again with our 2nd pregnancy and even though we haven’t quite had as many issues(we hope!), we are so pleased to have her care. She saw my name on patient list and insisted on doing my anatomy scan when one of the techs could have done it. She is so good at explaining options, tests, risks, etc. My husband and I both highly recommend her(as does our son, even though he never met her!)
