She-N-He Photography and Design

Mel photographed my engagement session, wedding and my kid’s first year photos. I know it’s hard to find the right person to trust with all these momentous occasions but she did not disappoint. I have loved every single picture she has taken. She has a magic touch when it comes to capturing the moment in a realistic and beautiful way. I will not hesitate to call her the next time I need a photographer, no matter the occasion.

Let me start with the comment my mom made in the days after our wedding «Melanie was amazing. That woman was literally EVERYWHERE. I don’t know how she does it. She didn’t miss a thing.» One sign that you’ve chosen the perfect person to document/​share your day with is when countless friends and family members stop to tell you how great it was to interact with your photographer.
Now for MY comments about her! Book her. Don’t walk, run to her site and book her. Not only is she incredibly talented but her personality *makes* you fall in love with her and you need that kind of personality on your big day.
As a photography snob, I love. love…love the «purist» approach to what she does. She’s capturing what really happens, how it happens and in such a beautiful way. I’m not a person who tears up very easily but going through the pictures from our day I was so caught off guard by some of the special moments she captured that I couldn’t hold back the tears! One photo that comes to mind of my grandmother and I will be cherished for the rest of our lives, it captures my 40 year relationship with her perfectly. I’ll forever be indebted to Melanie for this photo.
Finally, I’ve had the good fortune to attend other weddings that she’s done and I can say that all of the above rings true for each event.

I LOVE MEL & STEVE!!! I just wanted to start off with that, because it’s the truth! If somebody just wants to read the beginning of this review, then that is all they need to know! Mel and Steve are seriously the BEST photographers/​team and they captured our engagement session and wedding perfectly!
She is so incredibly talented and welcoming! My husband and I were a bit nervous about taking our engagement pictures but after the first picture was shot we were fine and had such a fun time! It didn’t feel pushed or forced at all — it was actually a ton of fun! AND THE PICTURES — they are so incredible!
She is definitely not your average photographer — she is happy to try different things and stay clear of the cliché engagement and wedding pictures. Your photos will definitely be different than all of your friends. She has a talent to bring out your true personalities and let them shine in the photos — which makes each couples shots unique and amazing!
As for the wedding, she ventured to Big Sur, Cali for our wedding and her and Steve were SO incredible! They were able to capture the best shots! And they were so much fun! Our wedding would not have been the same with out them! Not to mention, our pictures are to die for — she captured our day perfectly. Her and Steve and seriously incredible and I couldn’t imagine EVER choosing a different photographer for our engagement and wedding!
I just adore them both and they are the real deal!!!

Melanie is so talented and a pleasure to work with! She did a fantastic job with my bridal shots and our wedding pictures. I am so pleased with the result and happy we chose She-​N-​He to capture these important moments! If you are looking for a photographer definitely schedule a meeting to talk with Melanie about her options/​packages/​business/​availability etc– and I’m sure you will walk away happy just like we did!
And can I add– her artistic eye is out of this world! Truly gifted with a camera!

Oh how do I count the ways?! Mel can do no wrong in my eyes. While still awaiting my wedding pictures, I have NO RESERVATIONS about recommending her over and over and over again (and in fact, already spread her gospel amongst my newly engaged friends). Why? Because she is talent incarnate. And a lot of fun. But her talent and fun are only icing on a massive, moist cake of professionalism. Her work is absolutely incredible – our engagement pictures were fun, unique, and vibrant with life and love. She was flexible, yet inspired throughout, and took our ideas and made it her own. I LOVED our engagement pictures and the three wedding shots I’ve seen – especially because I was a bit camera-​shy with some self-​doubt. She made it all go away with a few camera flashes, and has the uncanny ability of seeing (and capturing) the beauty in anyone, regardless of how long she’s known you. She’s willing to try new ideas and methods, yet experienced enough to know what looks best. She is reliable, timely and responsive. She guides without being overbearing – hell, she even talked me down during my one bridezilla moment when the family was pulling me here and there during family photo time in a cathedral veil under the Texan sun (think Hatfields and McCoys, except both factions come from my side of the family). She is truly a gem – while everyone else makes you feel like you’re just another bride-​cog in the wedding-​machine, Mel actually made me feel beautiful on the most important day to feel beautiful. And for that memory and keepsake? I’m forever grateful…
Did you know she’s a Pulitzer nominee? Shoulda won it as far as I’m concerned…

melanie and her team are awesome and i couldn’t be happier with my pictures. and it helps that melanie is hilarious and easygoing and wears sneakers to your wedding! i love her and can’t wait to have her do my family shots once that is underway. she is a true professional and the quality of her photos is impeccable. i believe she also did magazine publishing and advertisement and that really comes out in her photos, which are stunning.

The number one thing that my husband and I wanted to be amazing for our wedding were the photos. We looked through many many portfolios before landing on She-​n-​He as being undeniably the best.

Mel is a lovely lovely lady and we met her for lunch some days before our Engagement Photos and we had a blast talking to her.
She is very prompt in answering emails and very good with getting to know you and gauging what you want. She worked with my husband’s and my chaotic schedule to land the perfect day for our Engagement Photos (Which were STUNNING). She even worked with one of our photo venues to secure permission and a time to shoot.
We had a great time taking pictures with her and paid for an extra hour (which was totally worth it).
We printed almost all of the Engagement Photos that she delivered to us.
On the day of our wedding she and her assistant were everywhere taking photos and being super awesome. Mel’s enthusiasm radiates and makes the people around her happy. I am very pleased that she was a part of our wedding.
We are looking forward to seeing the full spread of our wedding pictures (we’ve been teased by some amazing photos that she posted on her blog).

«The pictures are in, the pictures are in!» lol I admit because my now husband and I are very camera shy and I have rarely liked myself in a photograph, I was nervous about the final outcome. This was our WEDDING! You don’t get another chance! However, when we looked at the pictures, or should I say works of art we were speechless! We liked EVERY picture! EVERYONE looked how they came out and are now ordering copies for themselves! Melanie and her assistant captured everyone special moment flawlessly! The décor, the laguhter, and the happy tears of my Mom! That pcture will especially always melt my heart! For once in my life, I’m excited that my mom is going to send pictures of me for the whole family/​and friends to see! I think besides the bride feeling beautiful in her dress, and makeup, and her handsome husband feeling comfortable in his suite, the most important thing in the world is to have an amazing photographer! I had a friend that hired a low budget photographer and she ended up liking the pictures more that I took off my camera phone! I know readers get skeptical when reading people who only have positive things to say on reviews but hire Melanie form She-​N-​He andl see for yourself!!! As for us, Melanie is definitely going to be there for our future importants life events! Now off we go to make baby #1! :o)

I absolutely love this pair! Our wedding was so much fun and they captured all of the best moments beautifully. They are so fun and so sweet and do such an incredible job. I am so impressed and overwhelmed with both how incredibly professional, and playful they were! I would use them again in a heartbeat for any other event.

TEN GLITTERY STARS!
She-​N-​He are great. We found them at a «wedding extravaganza» convention in 2009. Most of the photography booths were hard to tell apart, and it seemed like theirs was the only one with a definite /​style/​.
I didn’t interact with «he» much, but «she» was awesome. Melanie and a helper photographed our wedding. They were friendly, relaxed, and totally flexible — there was no rigid list of shots to get, and they did some fun stuff working with the location. If you hire them, your wedding photos will look like a dream sequence in a slick modern magazine.
That’s probably because she’s also a magazine photographer…
Of the things that my husband and I paid for, the photography was a big ticket item. Before we started shopping for anything, we made a priority list (food, clothes, photo, venue, etc) and decided that even if everything went wrong, if it rained, and the cake fell over, and my dress was torn, and our friends had a brawl by the keg, it would all be okay if we had amazing photos. Because memories are strong, but photos can repaint your memories in better light.
Luckily the day was perfect, but the gorgeous pictures help me remember it even more fondly :)

Asking She-​N-​He to photograph my wedding was the first decision I made as a newly engaged woman. As soon as I leafed through Melanie’s online website, I knew they were our top choice, so I booked them over a year in advance!
I have a few friends that are amateur photographers, and we definitely considered saving the money and asking them to help us out… I am so happy we changed our minds and made the investment in professional photography. Our pictures will forever remind us of the year we spent in New York, our Texas wedding, and all of our family and friends that were present. I can’t imagine getting married without capturing these moments.
Melanie and Steve are a great team– ‘He’ has a new business designing stationary and invitations… some of the cutest I’ve seen anywhere!
I planned my entire Texas wedding from New York, and Melanie made the process so easy. She was always easy to get in touch with, and she even made a fun trip to New York to do our Engagement session!
On the day of the wedding, all of our wedding party made comments to me about how much they loved the photographer. She has a special gift of making shy children and awkward adults feel at ease and look beautiful! It has been such a pleasure working with her this past year, and I would confidently recommend her to anyone!

I hired Melanie as my wedding photographer after I saw a portfolio of her work at a wedding convention in Austin. From the moment my fiancé and I talked to her the first time, we felt confident and happy with our decision. She is a wonderful photographer who talked with us about the general feel we were looking for, as well as specific shots that we wanted. She got up on a tall ladder to take a large group shot of our wedding guests from above, only a few weeks after giving birth to her first child! That’s dedication!
She had our photos on a personalized photo website after a very short turnaround time, and they were edited beautifully and looked fantastic! We got the photos on a disc after only a month. I was so satisfied with her dedication and professionalism, and I chuckle to myself every time I hear one of my friends complain about not getting their photos until months after the wedding. They should’ve gone with She-​N-​He!
We didn’t use Steve’s design services, but as a graphic designer I can vouch for the quality of his work based on his portfolio. Very fun, clean design. We talked with him as we were discussing our photography needs, and he brought up some good ideas. This team is professional and really fun to talk to, and produces wonderful work!

I have a background in photography and design, and consider myself pretty good at spotting the real professionals when it comes to photos. After seeing so many terrible wedding photographers online and at bridal shows when my fiancé and I were looking around, I was so relieved to find someone who I enjoyed talking to and being around AND who really knows what the hell she’s doing. I mean, if I see another wedding photographer blowing up a shot with terrible lighting, trees poking out of brides’ heads, and Wal-​mart photo booth posing and using it AS THEIR WEBSITE PHOTO AND ON A GIANT POSTER AT A BRIDAL SHOW (sorry, I really am yelling it just upsets me so much), I will throw up in my mouth. Melanie is a pro, she knows her technical stuff and actually works full-​time as a photographer (imagine that!) Her prices are reasonable, and though she’s super busy she’s responsive and listens. My fiancé and I had an engagement session that wound into the night running around to different locations, and we were so blown away by the photos that we knew for sure she’d have to do our wedding. Everyone who saw the engagement shots was super impressed. I’ve done some modeling before– and even pro photographers usually end up with mostly bad photos and a few good ones that they use. I have so many bad pictures of myself as a result. Mel had way more good ones from the session, all frame-​worthy and images we’ll treasure forever. We just had our wedding and I’m holding my breath waiting for the pictures. All of our guests commented on how fun she was, and how she added to the fun quirky atmosphere of the reception. Number one things I’ve heard from every bride I know– don’t skimp on the photos! It’s the one thing you’ll regret from your wedding, which is just one day. You’ll have great pictures for a lifetime.

I have seen the photographs from the wedding since I wrote the last review, and I am pleased to say that they are AMAZING! The bride loves them and can’t wait to show people. There is a perfect picture for everything she wanted to remember.

Why I LOVE She-​n-​He. .…
I found info about She-​n-​He while searching online for local photographers. I looked at several different websites and called/​emailed a couple of people. Then there was Melanie. I called her and we talked for about an hour, about not only pictures but all things wedding. I knew after talking to her that I wanted to meet this quirky lady. After meeting with her and seeing her work and realizing how passionate she was, Lee and I knew they were the ones.
Let me just say, I really dislike taking pictures so I really didn’t want to have an engagement session, but ended up doing it because I wanted to get comfortable being photographed. When I told Melanie, she was so excited. I originally knew that we wanted to do something unlike all of the typical engagement pictures. Lee and I came up with an idea to have a cake decorating lesson of me teaching him at our house, because we are both chefs and met at culinary school 7 years ago. Melanie loved it, but then had a request of her own. She wanted us to do the second half of our shoot right below a bridge at dusk. We were game! The day came for our shoot and I starting out nervous but ended up not wanting to stop. We had an amazing time with Melanie. She loved our ideas (what a confidence booster!) and really made the day special. She is one of those rare people who are so passionate about what she does that it is not a job but an extension of her life. She makes you want to not waste a second doing anything that you don’t absolutely love! When we got the pictures of the decorating in our kitchen and under the bridge, we lost it. Melanie and I kept in touch throughout the whole engagement. I used her to bounce ideas off of for the wedding when my new husband needed a break from all of it. Lee and I spent a lot of time and effort on our details and knew that it would be perfectly captured in their hands.
The wedding day came and everything was perfect. I know that sounds crazy, but seriously we could re-​live that day over and over again. Steve and Melanie arrived early and made sure to get it all! Melanie was so giddy ooohhhing and aahhhhing over everything that she just couldn’t wait to photograph. She made everyone around her smile and feel at ease. All of our guests loved both of them and their energy. We were in Barcelona when the first picture was posted on Facebook and the emails poured in, everyone was so excited. We got all of them shortly after and have shown many people (those who did and didn’t attend) and everyone says they are honestly the best wedding pictures they have seen. We know several people who are getting married and recommend She-​n-​He to all of the couples, especially for the price.
