This place is now closed and has been since the end of December. Do not go here because you will only find an empty office space.

EDIT: Sadly, Seattle’s Best changed to Texenza Coffee and then, at the end of 2008, closed for good. I think it’s a clothing store or something now. Sad to see it go, as it was one of the few coffee shops in the area where you could spread out, enjoy free wi-fi, sit outside and be hassled by bums, etc… I’m going to agree with the other reviewers who say this particular Seattle’s Best is a great place to get stuff done. I’ve been a regular for years, most recently having settled into a routine of stopping off for a cup of coffee(or, now that it’s summer, iced coffee) and an hour and a half of writing time before venturing in to work. Spacious seating(inside and out), friendly staff, good coffee and free wi-fi make this place tough to beat.

I had almost forgotten that I had gone here on my first visit to Austin. In waiting for the Whole Foods across the street to open, my friend and I went here and got a cup of coffee and chatted while we waited for the store to open. During our wait a lady came by with samples of mint cocoa. Mmmmmm It was awesome!!! It was the Thanksgiving weekend and quite cold out, so cocoa was the perfect touch.

My latest addiction is the caramel latte and the peeps at this branch always do it up right. They also have these huge bags of used coffee grounds you can take for your garden, which is super cool. My earthworms don’t care that its a chain.

OK. New Rule: If you’re not actually on your phone, take your flipping BlueTooth headset off. What are you doing with that thing? Tapping into some drive thru on south Lamar? And stop staring blankly at me. Don’t you know who I am? I’m Fist of God. Don’t make me pause the Jackson Browne on my iPod. I’ll come over there and break that BlueTooth headset over my knee. Oh, great. Great. Now your friend is here. ANDYOU’RESTILLNOTTAKINGTHEHEADSETOFF! He’s been talking to your one, unbarricaded ear for 20 minutes now. You’re not in the Secret Service. You’re not a Borg. You are in need of some new shoes, though. Looks like you’re married. I’m sorry. She doesn’t love you any more.

For true tea lovers: Try their classic iced tea. I believe they use earl grey… doesn’t need any sweetener– delicious as served!

An earlier morning, a pre-lunch run or an entire Sunday afternoon, Seattle’s Best Coffee is where I love to be. Not because of the coffee, I am not a big fan of coffee, but for the relaxed atmosphere and the conversations that stick with me long after I’ve left. It doesn’t hurt that I’m greeted with a smile and my drink of choice, iced green tea latte, is waiting for me before I can even say the name of the drink just makes me happy. The staff are always happy and play off the silliness that me and my co-workers/friends bring. Great place to either clear your head or wind down.

I love Seattle’s Best Coffee but not for the drinks, per se. I like it because it is a productive place as another Unilocaler stated. This is the only place where I can actually get work done. I have taken two other graduate students with me, and they concurred wholeheartedly after pushing out pages and pages for their thesis or dissertation. I will never know why this place has such an environment so conducive to getting much homework done, but it does. Also, almost all of the workers(I say«almost», because they have hired some new workers recently) know my name and my preferred drink(Caramel Mocha hot or cold) and my favorite dessert(a heated up Cinnamon Roll w/o Icing). They chat with me often, and if something every goes wrong, they give you a coupon for a free drink. They provide samples of drinks or day-old desserts often as well. Lastly, as someone else stated, they do allow you to bring in foodstuff from other restaurants as long as you order something from them. While I have had better coffee drinks and am limited to the Caramel Mocha, Seattle’s Best Coffee is my number one coffee shop so far. My mother and I jokingly call it «Seattle’s Worst Coffee», because of the other coffee drinks, but it is my favorite place to be and study.

i get my coffee from seattle’s every morning. okay, i do work next door but hey, i have choices a plenty. i choose seattle’s because of the fabulous staff. they make an effort to know your name and remember the drinks you order on a regular basis. i can’t tell you how much i enjoy getting a personal hello and my coffee prepared before i even have a chance to pay for it!

the best part about seattles best is its fine muSAC tracks. what better way to distract you from your studies than a little pointer sisters sans vocals. i tap my feet to the sound of the neutron dance. plus, they don’t seem to be bothered when you sneak in a $ 20 salad from whole foods, conveniently located across the street(the f*&kin’ fruit always weighs too much). they’re incredibly generous on their free samples of blueberry coffee cake if you’re craving dessert afterwards.

So I’m sitting at Seattle’s Best, and this homeless guy walks in. «Anyone have a laptop I can borrow? Just need it for 2 hours? Doing some lab research. Please?» All of us laptop junkies look around at each other wondering, «Is this guy serious?» When no one volunteered, he shook his head and walked out the door. The rest of us turned back to our screens, thinking, only here would something like that happen. Wireless is free, service is friendly, ambiance is productive(yes, that is totally a valid description for a type of ambiance). Definitely recommend!

OK, look. Here is my opportunity to publicly admit it. I am OK with corporate coffeehouses. That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy their far from corporate counterparts, but there is something about a standard coffee shop that gets me going. Seattle’s Best is one of these places. Located right across from the ginormous whole foods, Seattle’s Best can be counted on for a good cup of coffee. Great local, good vibes… and Seattle’s Best isn’t as corporate as Starbucks? Is it? Maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to tell you to go :)

Want to dissolve a little bit of that cynicism won’t seem to quit chipping away at your battered, worse-for-the-wear, 9 to 5 soul? Talk about a place where everyone knows your name. When you walk into the Lamar Seattle’s Best(across from Whole Foods HQ where CC’s used to be) it seems like just another chain coffee shop. You might even be slightly put-off by the convenient view of Starbucks across the road. But as you approach the counter you find yourself being transported to a world of smiling faces and personal connections which transcend the evils of corporate America. Certified Training Manager, Tabitha Scott and her staff make an effort to know your name, face, and drink order from day one, regardless of whether or not you become a regular. Not a day goes by at Seattle’s where they don’t go the extra mile to make their customers feel at home in this coffee shop. And if that doesn’t convince you to give it a try for your next study session or business chat, Whole Foods is right across the road… mmm pizza…
