Sarah Bird got ALL my moneys at the Cherrywood Arts Fair. And not just mine, by the looks of the buying mob crowding her booth. She is yet another example of a local artisan, enthusiastically and creatively, doing what she loves. She’s definitely found her happy in life. I envy folks like her. Sarah takes thrown out clothes, rags, etc and gives them new life in handmade crocheted hats, booties, belts, and most recently flowers. The hats are whimsical and adorable and I ended up buying them for all my high school aged nieces, some friends, and the toddlers on my list. Sarah’s enthusiasm for her work and for life in general is infectious. After reading up on her, I found that she even travels to Laredo to stock up on «trashed» goods. She’s obviously adamant about the importance of reusing and recycling as well as decreasing our waste on this planet. She also was donating a percentage of cash sales to local charities(families with disabled children, I believe). I know we all talk and hear about the importance of «buying local», ad nauseum, but in this case, it’s instant gratification. Quality, unique goods from a quality, unique individual. She’s turning trash into flowers, folks. That’s a gift. According to the Armadillo Bazaar website, Sarah will be there as well, so go stock up on stocking stuffers!(the Etsy site is pretty crappy, but it’s the only one she’s got and from the looks of her business last weekend, it’s cause she’s too busy!)
