Salon: Pearl Hair & Make-up Studio

I am incredibly thankful to have discovered Pearl Hair & Makeup Studio, just in time for my courthouse elopement! Katie did my hair and it was EXACTLY what I wanted. I showed her a few pictures from Pinterest and she created the absolute perfect updo for my wedding day. Maris did my makeup and I cannot say enough about how tremendously talented she is! I plan to post a few photos when I receive them, but my makeup was truly flawless — all thanks to Maris! Both ladies were friendly, professional, and just all around lovely. Pearl has definitely become my forever Austin go-​to for hair and makeup!

Used Pearl to book my hair and makeup for my wedding and I couldn’t have chosen a better team! Katie did my hair and Maris did my airbrush/​makeup. My hair came out exactly how I wanted it and makeup was literally perfect! I would have posted some pics too but my photo’s aren’t back yet. If you are thinking about using Pearl for your wedding, DO IT, you will not regret it!

Shondi is great. I never get my hair cut bc I hate it. She made the process comfortable and discussed what I wanted and was realistic about what she could do. I’m going back when it’s time for a trim.

Shondi is the best. I have been going to her for almost two years. I love that the salon is in East Austin. Shondi is professional and wants to make sure she gives you the style you want. I have never walked out of there where I have not gotten a compliment when walking to my car. Go see Shondi!

I have used Andrea for both wedding hair and a regular haircut.
Andrea did my (bride’s) hair as well as my maid of honor’s hair. She came to my house for both day of hair and bridal portraits. For the bridal trial run, I did go to the salon on E Cesar Chavez. I have nothing but positive things to say about Andrea and how she styled my hair. She was patient for the bridal trial run when I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted and amazingly talented. For the day of & bridal portrait sessions, she did an amazing job for both my sister and myself. Everyone raved about our hair and it lasted all day through the ceremony and the reception where I spent a good period of it on the dance floor.
For the regular haircut, she did a great job in both the cut and blowout. She is a rockstar in everything she does.

I love this salon! It is adorable, and welcoming. Shondi does my hair, and she is amazing. She listens to me, and makes suggestions so I look great when I leave. Thank you for rocking it!

I visited with Maris Malone and Jen Hoover to do trial runs of hair and makeup in preparation for my wedding. They both did amazing jobs with very little direction on my part. I was not really sure what I wanted other than to look still like myself, but a bit better. Both artists nailed that. They took their time, were very professional, and make me look like a more polished and beautiful version of myself. I can’t wait to work with them again on my wedding day. I know I will be so happy with the results (and so will my future husband).

Let me tell you about Pearl Studio…
First of all this little place is just adorable — almost as adorable as the owner, Jen. It has got that cool loft/​industrial feel to it with the cement floors and exposed duct work. It feels very city, yet very warm and comfortable. It is right downtown so it is perfectly convenient for me and the parking is very close, quick and easy. It is also a short walk from Cenote, my new favorite eatery, so I usually head over there to get a bite and show off my new, perfectly blown do!
Now, let me tell you about Jen…
Jen is maybe one of the smartest people I know. I love to talk to her because I always learn something new and it is very easy to share with her. Important! — I HAVE to like talking to my stylist because I have long hair so I am always there for HOURS! Jen is always upbeat and positive, yet calm and meticulous. I always feel catered to and totally at the hands of a real artist, so I never really tell her what I want because I will probably just mess up a good thing. HOWEVER, I have seen some of the color transformations she has done and I can’t begin to tell you about the knack that she has in determining what looks good on each individual. Very cool! The hours I spend at Pearl are always filled with intelligent conversation. Jen NEVER talks about herself too much or brings up topics like religion or politics — even when I try! To me that is a true professional!
Maybe the coolest thing about Pearl Studio is that I can see how much Jen puts her heart into the growth and education of the girls who work alongside her. I can tell it is important to her that the clients get the same great service and expertise every time, so I would be completely comfortable seeing one of the other stylist there. There are several stylists at Pearl so I don’t want to leave anyone out, but I have personally seen and heard, many times, really great things about the work that Andrea and Shondi do. So If I can’t get in to see Jen, I know I will get a good cut and color at Pearl Studio no matter what.
In closing, I should mention the makeup that Maris does because it is definitely noteworthy. Her wedding makeup is the talk of the town, but all her styles are perfection and can run from clean, pure and beautiful all the way to cool, sexy and edgy. A real multidimensional artist!
These girls are the real deal, so I would tell you if you are looking for a new beauty professional you’ve found your place — Pearl!

I am so relieved that I found Jeni! I have been searching for the perfect person to do my hair/​makeup for my wedding for two months, and I’ve finally found someone I am confident in.
I went to Jeni last week to do a trial for my hair/​makeup, and I absolutely loved it. She listened carefully to what I was looking for (which was not your typical prom updo), and I could tell as she got started that she was a true artist.
I always thought that finding a hair/​makeup person would be the easiest part of planning a wedding. It turned out to be the hardest, but thanks to Jeni, I’m confident I’ll be feelin’ good on the big day!

i have seen christen for about a year and a half now, and followed her to Pearl Hair and Makeup Studio. she is an amazing stylist! she keeps ups with new trends and always has something fun for me to try, while also listening to my ideas. i am a super picky client, but christen gets it right everytime! i always get tons of compliments after going to see christen! she also was the only person i trusted to style my hair for my wedding, and i was not dissappointed with the georgeous updo she created for my special day! the salon is in an adorable house in the hyde park area and is decorated in a retro-​style, and relaxed atmoshpere that everyone in austin is sure to love!

I’ve been going to Jen for about 6 or 7 months now, and she’s great. She’s one of those hair dressers who you can trust when you say «just do something fun and cute!» This, I have found, is a rarity, and should definitely be appreciated. On top of this, the shop is adorable and relaxing. It’s not one of those salons with bumping music and tons of people running around, it’s where you go when you want to have a nice conversation with an awesome hair stylist, get a great cut and color, and leave feeling refreshed. I’ll be going there as long as Jen allows me to!
