I read about this place in the Chronicle last year and tried it out. Pretty good back in October. Tried it out again a few days ago and it was still good. I’ve had the Pad Thai each time and it was very authentic. If you order Phad Thai and it’s a pinkish tint, don’t eat it and if you do and you like it, you’re not eating real Phat Thai. Sala’s has to make their sauce from scratch and not from a pre made sauce like most do. It has a lot of fish sauce in it, and if you’re lucky, it will also have dried shrimp. This is how it’s like in Thailand. This place is great, small menu, but what she makes is good. Lots of bang for your buck and very friendly service. Go there and try it.

My Pad Thai was neon orangy. It was the same color as my iced thai tea. I didn’t mind the color, it was just an observation I made after comparing my pad thai to the picture on Unilocal. I usually like most variations of pad thai, but the one I got from this cute little stand just didn’t do it for me. I think it was the fact that I could taste the fish sauce in it. Now I love a good fish sauce, and normally when it is used, you don’t even taste the fishiness. You mostly taste the saltiness of it… but wow weee, not in this dish. I kept taking bites and about 2 seconds into chewing that same fish sauce flavor would haunt me. Not my preference, maybe others like the stronger fish sauce taste? The thai tea, on the other hand was fabulous. I was sad that they were out of boba when I arrived. It would have made the drink even better than it already was. Refreshing and creamy at the same time. The ladies serving were very nice and smiley. I’d give this place another shot, it’s cheap and fast and conveniently close to me. Next visit I really hope they have boba. I might go for a rice dish too. Cash only. $ 5 will get you a generous helping of thai food… or American food as well!

the ladies moved a few feet for better manchaca visibility. service is always fast and friendly. all prices on the menu include tax which keeps things nice and simple, especially for math dummies like me. $ 5 for a good portion of chicken pahd thai. $ 1.75 for a creamy thai tea. i can’t complain about a single thing.

I was so excited to be able to get my thai on this close to the casa. Holy crap– the pad thai is fantastic! It might be a little sweet for some folks, but I don’t have a problem with that. I also tried the thai omelette– delicious and we also had the basil chicken-another winner. Everything is super fresh and super cheap. I am crazy about the ladies that cook this deliciousness. I want them to come live with me. Their enthusiasm for life is apparent not only in the way they treat their customers, but also in the food they serve. I will update to five stars after I convince them to include a vegetarian option ;)

Oui, the owner, has begun selling«Thai Cupcakes» based on a recipe from Thailand. They aren’t on the menu, so you have to ask for them. It is $ 3 for 10 of 2-bite cupcakes. They are delicious and rival many of the regular bakery bought cupcakes out there. They are a little different than regular cupcakes in that there is no icing on them and the flavors are vanilla, coffee and, I believe, tamarind. Totally worth trying. You won’t be disappointed as the cupcakes are as delicious as everything else on the menu!

While I still think nothing can beat Thai Kitchen’s Phad Thai on a good day, Sala does the second best I’ve had(except for maybe Thai Kitchen on a slightly off day). I think next time I may have to try the Thai Omlette, as if the smells wafting from the window are any indication, everything they serve should be tasty and satisfying, and for $ 5 you could hardly go wrong.

This is a great little place where I can get a hot dog with my pahd thai and then get some nails or some keys cut. The 1st time I went there, I thought the food was going to be like the Asian lunch carts on campus; not very good, pre-packaged but cheap. But lo and behold, the food was made to order, delicious and cheap. They offer American fare but the Thai is the star here. They spell«Pahd Thai» just like that. Little Thailand spells it «Pot Thai». Most places spell it as «pad thai». For some reason, this interests me. I only wish that their hours were better so I could pick up dinner here more frequently. The food is top notch, though. And cheap as well…

I’ve always noticed the little trailer in the parking lot of Neighborhood Hardware on Manchaca but never stopped by until I saw the feature in the Chronicle. I’m glad I did! Apparently the name means«a place of rest.» Aaaaw. The owner’s name is «Oui.» She’s a very smiley, friendly lady and her trailer is very bright and there are flowers on the litlte ledge next to the tip jar. I liked her right away(maybe because she was telling me I looked pretty and complimenting my jewelry). Originally she was just selling drinks like Thai iced coffee and tea. Sooo cheap and tasty. Not overwhelming sweet with condensed milk like your average Thai coffee. Her breakfast tacos are only 2 dollars and include a drink. Cheapskys! The taco was interesting and the smells wafting out of the trailer while she was cooking were oh-so wonderful. My eggs were cooked into a thin omelet which was delicately wrapped around the tortilla, cilantro, sausage, Thai spices. Mmm. I’m excited to go back and try her Pad thai and Thai basil chicken dishes. The portions seem great from what I’ve seen and the prices are wonderful. She’s open early every day and closed on Sunday. Claudia Alarcon from the Chronicle said the pad thai was«the best I’ve had in years.» That’s saying a lot. I’m hungry.
