The service was pretty good and they had Yellow Rose on tap, so that was nice. Their presentation is also good and creative, but food is why I go to places. Good food can make up for bad service. The food was not a highlight for my experience. My wife and I got two sandwiches, the two that looked to be the best on the menu — The Mr. T and the Sala. The sandwiches looked good on paper, and like I said, even looked good on the plate. The bread that they use is not good. It’s hard, dry, and has jagged edges that poke the roof of your mouth. The dryness of the bread makes it a struggle to swallow each bite with out taking a gulp of water. The flavor of the contents of both sandwiches were nothing to right home about. Just really not much flavor at all. If I was blindfolded, I couldn’t even tell you what I was eating. The portion size was pretty small for a $ 10 sandwich. It doesn’t come with any sides either. I didn’t try any of the sides, and some of them sounded good, but I don’t have any desire to go back and find out due to the lack of flavor in their sandwiches. If you are looking for a local place to get a good sandwich, go to Little Deli and pay less to get something of better quality and better portions. I don’t understand how a place like this gets 4.5 stars. It’s really just mediocre. Austin is really getting over-saturated with new trendy places that somehow get decent ratings on Unilocal.A good example is Bun Belly, just a block away from this place.

OMG! We absolutely loved this place! And it was a jem of a find, even more so for those of us poor sucker who have to be gluten free!!! Being from Dallas, we were pleasantly surprised at the super reasonable prices for the nearly perfectly prepared, delicious, sophisticated food. Our food was perfectly seasoned, the presentation was beautiful, and it tasted even better than it looked!!! We both had beef and I had the gluten free option on the Mr. T sandwich, which is a califlower tortilla. It was not what I expected but is was still delicious. You must have the chocolate soufflé cake, which is also gluten free. They also had gluten free beer. As well as wonderful local beers on tap and wine by the glass. Atmosphere was cool, slightly hipster, casual with no dresscode. Deco is streamline modern minimalist with rustic flare, and the copper topped bar is really cool. The understated quirkiness adds a sophisticated touch while retaining that special Austin touch.

I got the Mr T sammich. 2 large halves. The make up of this sammich is interesting. Full of flavor. I went at 4pm so I got this plate for half off(happy hour). Would I go again, yes. Would I get the same sammich, yes. Enough said

For me. It’s all about the roasted pork shoulder. Flavorful and tender. I get it regularly– served with a chunk of bread and some yummy sauce. Add one of their sides and you are good to go for less than 10 bucks!

Such a fan. Lately, I’ve had a lot of fancy, costly food that just didn’t deliver. It is so refreshing to go somewhere unpretentious, delicious, local and well priced. The venue is casual but still upscale modern. They have covered outdoor seating and a intimate indoor dining room. Grab a menu, they have different ones for lunch and dinner. Also, check out their daily specials. I believe you can seat yourself… that’s what i did. Order at the counter. Also, they have a drive through. The drive through menu is not as expansive as the sit down menu. I had a chameleon coffee, I think they should put it on the menu(but maybe i missed it), as i kind of just noticed flyers for it by the register but it is a bit confusing as to how they serve it(it’s a concentrated coffee). I ordered a well priced cup of tortilla soup that was delicious and fresh. I also tried the arugala salad($ 4 for a side salad) with ham and sourdough croutons. I ordered the black drum lunch special with barley, squash and a lemon sauce. It was all around delicious, i was scraping my plate. The baby squash were fresh and perfectly cooked, as well as the fish. The lemon sauce made the plate. Homemade chocolate soufflé was melty, hot and rich. They serve beer and wine only, fyi. Service was nice, the owner seemed to be expediting the food and was just the right amount of business and friendly. They were very accommodating and swapped a few things out here and there for me, like pros. The price point was outstanding. I can’t wait to frequent this place more. I can’t wait to check out their happy hour and brunch.

I have to say, this is one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve come across in Austin this year. It hasn’t even reached its one-year anniversary yet, but it’s safe to say that it has already made a strong impression on the clientele. The dishes on their menu sound very appetizing, but I still underestimated just how delicious the food would be. When I got there, I was seated immediately even though the others hadn’t arrived yet. This was a move that I appreciated. The server appeared right away but let me take my time poring over the menu while waiting. Everything looked fantastic, but I decided on the Mister T — a sandwich starring wagyu sirloin, avocado aioli, greens, and bleu cheese sauce. The sandwich also includes french fries, stuffed inside with the other fixings, which only makes the whole thing better. The sandwich looked pretty small when it arrived, but believe me, it turned out to be filling. Pardon the lame obvious joke, but I pity the fool who doesn’t try this sandwich at some point. The sirloin was juicy and tender, and for sliced steak in a sandwich it was one of the most rewarding I’ve had. The avocado aioli was delicious, of course, making every bite wonderful, and the bleu cheese brought that extra punch. The fries were a perfect add-in, with a pleasant roasted flavor that didn’t distract from the main attraction. Even the artisan bread classed it up, and was crisp and tasty. This is one mean sandwich, appealing to the eyes, mouth, and stomach. There’s almost as much to say about the restaurant’s appearance and location as there is to say about its food. On a stretch of Airport Blvd that’s now booming with diverse eateries, Sala & Betty has made itself stand out from the crowd. It starts with the large, appealing sign out front to announce its worthy presence, and continues with an aesthetically pleasing exterior that’s a bit rustic and sports a patio that must be nice to enjoy on warm afternoons. Once you get inside, the aesthetics are even more inviting. It manages to be upscale and laid-back at the same time: Big open dining area, a hip bar that features a good deal of pristine wood paneling, stylish tables and lots of windows. It made for a seriously relaxed, quieter dinner atmosphere where you feel like you’ve moved up in the world, while still dining on a feasible budget. Also, a shout-out to the excellent service. Our host and server were both very friendly and attentive, and made sure we were enjoying the meal without bothering us. Our server gave us a full rundown on her menu recommendations, and though I chose something different, I will definitely be back for their supposedly famed fried chicken and biscuits. It sounds absolutely amazing, and if tonight’s experience was any indication, it probably is.

Nice brunch here today with family. Chef Sala used to run a high-end restaurant, and she knows what she’s doing. Especially enjoyed the Betty sandwich and eggs Benedict. Ingredients are fresh and prices are good. Will be back next time I’m in town.

Austin’s Burnet Road is blowing up right now with new restaurants almost monthly and Sala & Betty is one of the best! The owners, staff, and food are all fantastic. All of their food is made from scratch and with love. They also place a strong focus on local and highlight all of the local farms and partners that their products come from. Insider tip: 1. The meatless mushroom meatloaf is a show stopper! #AMAZING 2. They change their crème brûlée’s all the time and they’re always fantastic. 3. You can order anything through the drive through. #gourmetfastfood

I went there during their transition between their lunch and dinner time, therefore their selection was very limited. We were able to order from their ready to go menu. Service was great! The food was good. My boyfriend is a picky eater and he was impressed! The Betty: slow roasted pork, smoked tomato aioli, French fries, and green chili queso. The slow roasted pork was moist. The combination of everything was good. I would suggest asking them to put the French fries to the side. The French fries tastes good, but they were soggy inside the sandwich. The mister t: smoked wagyu sirloin, avocado aioli, French fries, bleu cheese. This sandwich is hands down the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time! The bread was nice and buttery. The sirloin was nice and tender. And the flavors were orgasmic! A must try before you die! I haven’t tried the dinner menu yet, but will definitely come back for more. Only bad thing is, there was fruit flies flying all over our food/beers. They should do something about that!

At first, I was a little confused by this place; gourmet comfort food… AND a drive thru??? The service was warm and attentive. The food exceeded my expectations. Try the mushroom meatloaf. It seems kinda weird, but it was sooooo unexpectedly good! The wine prices were super reasonable and the quality was top notch! You can get wine through the drive thru, I repeat, you can get wine through the drive thru!!!

I’ve been fortunate enough to eat at some of the best restaurants in the WORLD. Michelin Star restaurants, 5 Star, 4 diamond etc. I’m not saying that Sala & Betty is comparable to a Michelin star restaurant but Sala & Betty IS absolutely fantastic and quite possibly delivers the BESTVALUE of any restaurant I’ve been to in Austin yet. They have the prices and comfort level of a casual diner while delivering FRESH, well thought out sandwiches and dishes that will blow you away if you have any appreciation for food. Their prices are mind blowing given what they deliver. I’ve spent $ 30 at Sala & Betty on a dinner for two(1 app, 2 mains and a beer) then walked away as happy as I have at restaurants that have have run me $ 170+ You need to try their Mister T sandwich with Wagyu beef. I personally leave the blue cheese out but that’s my preference. The gnocchi appetizer is killer and can compete with the gnocchi you would find at a 5 star restaurant or other top notch restaurant. I’m attaching a photo of my apple gastrique gnocchi dish. Around Halloween we even had a Pumpkin Crème Brulee and it was fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly and a couple who are always on hand(I can only assume they are the owners) are as warm and welcoming as it gets. In FACT when we first visited their drive through, they gave our puppy a treat while we waited for the food :) How cute is that? Take it from a total food snob, Sala & Betty is an absolute GEM and perhaps one of the few hidden treasures in Austin. FIVESTARS to them for creating such a beautiful space while delivering fresh, delicious, complex and high quality food at such reasonable prices. This has to be the next place you try.

We went to Sala & Betty for dinner last week and ordered the thyme and brown butter gnocci with celery, swiss chard, and apple gastrique as our appetizer. It was rich and really good. My husband’s roasted chicken sandwich(‘the Sala’) was quite bland, but we liked the mint yogurt sauce that came with it. I liked my sautéed shrimp with quinoa cake, avocado purée, pickled carrot and shishito pepper. The shimp on top was way under seasoned and brought the rest of the dish down. The avocado purée was tasty though. For dessert, we split a chocolate soufflé, which was more like a lava cake than a soufflé, but it was delicious anyway. I would give Sala & Betty 3 stars for the food and 4 stars for the service. I rounded up because when they asked us how we liked our meal, we were honest and they genuinely seemed like they were happy to receive the feedback so they could improve the dishes in the future.

I came here with a girlfriend for dinner and we had a wonderful experience. Exceptional service and I loved the look and feel of the restaurant in general. You have the choice of dining at the bar, at a table inside or the patio area. We chose the patio which was very comfortable yet attractive. Our server offered many suggestions plus the manager actually selected a bottle of wine which I throughly enjoyed. I ordered the pan-seared sirloin. My kind of dish! It was a combination of comfort meets class. It had a variety of flavors that worked well together. Funny enough, my favorite part of the evening occurred when our server approached the table to remove the cork from our wine bottle so that the wine could«breathe!» Yes please! I’m definitely a fan and plan on hitting up happy hour here as well as brunch in the near future.

My friend and I stopped here entirely by chance as we needed a place to eat between Target and our downtown office. The fact that it had a drive through was both a draw and a concern because really, how good is food that you get at a drive through window? We ordered with some trepidation, and waited and felt some comfort in the fact that perhaps our food was being freshly prepared. We both ordered the Betty and peeked in before we got back to the office and viola, this looks promising. The bread was thick and crusty/crunchy, but not the painfully huge, pointy bread that you can’t get your mouth around. Then there’s the moist, flavorful pork paired with the french fries that you notice every other bite and the very slightly spicy sauce.… What a pleasant surprise. We won’t spent $ 9 on lunch every day but this place is certainly on the return list and with the drive through it’s convenient on a lunch hour.

Pros: one of the best pours of wine I’ve had in Austin! Seriously. Go there for the wine menu… Food: good food options, limited menu. My meal(the gnocchi) was crafted beautifully as other reviews have mentioned and one of the best brown butter sauce I’ve ever had. So much flavor without being too heavy as brown butter sauces often are. It is an app size but big enough for a meal if you’re not super hungry. I lowered my review for the atmosphere. Wasn’t too impressed with the space. Nice great big windows but other than that décor was blah and staff was alright(took forever for the bill– hate when restaurants do that)!!! Overall, I live in the hood and will be back because it is a great menu for modern comfort food. I don’t know if I’d make the trip out if I was far away.

«That was a damn good sandwich» is what I said to myself upon completing the Mister T which is, well, a damn good sandwich. It’s not any one component of the sandwich, but the flavor that’s created when the Smoked Wagyu(not really Wagyu) Sirloin, Avocado Aioli, French Fries(laced on the sandwich), Bleu Cheese Sauce, and Mixed Greens all come together. I also love how the fries stayed crispy even on the last bite. I think some reviewers complained of portions which I’m sensitive too as well, but I felt the portion was the right amount. I left satiated. I was not the biggest fan of the bread, but I’m hard to please when it comes to bread anyway and it wasn’t bad, it did what it needed to do, it just wasn’t my favorite. The space is bright, clean, and airy. It has a welcoming vibe helped in part to the really nice staff. I love when you can tell the people working for and/or running an establishment have a palpable care for what they are doing. They do here.

«Are you Sala, or are you Betty?» You know what probably never gets old? The person at the counter being asked this question. Hundreds of times. But I digress. First, I’ll say I really like the décor. If you’ve been to our house since we renovated, you’ll know that clean and modern lines are what we like, and Sala & Betty, both inside and on the covered patio, does that in spades. Here’s what Sala & Betty does well: — Consistent, tasty food — Brought out fairly quickly — Options for those wanting to be a bit healthier — Prices that won’t break the bank I’ve been three times. First time was a workday lunch with fellow foodie Shannon B., since we had an errand in that direction to run. Order at the counter, grab your beverage, wait for the food to be brought out(it was a nice March day, so we were on the patio). The man who brought out our food seemed to always be thinking about what might make our experience better. We just ordered a couple things and shared. The cauliflower soup was smooth and tasty. The play on shrimp and grits was great, as was the«Betty»(the slow roasted pork sandwich). Total tab $ 25. My next visit I was just driving by, and grabbed a «Mr. T.» to go(a smoked Wagyu sirloin sandwich). Now, the menu states it comes with a «bleu cheese sauce», which if my memory serves has horseradish, which complemented it very well. Where I always keep forgetting is that the menu says the sandwiches say they come with french fries. When I got home and looked in my box, I was like… Dang, they forgot my fries. But they put the fries ON the sandwich, it’s not like a side order. So, if you really like fries, you apparently should order an extra side of them(or grab from McDonald’s on your way home!). Our last visit there was dinner with my wife and a friend. My wife paired the mussels app with a side of garlic smashed potatoes(to pour the lovely mussels juice onto), and loved it. I went with the fried chicken biscuit(with an over easy egg on top) which I devoured, though I think with the bacon could have used a little less salt. Our friend is on a special diet, and the option to order meat«by the pound» worked well for her. Her ¼ lb. of sirloin was nicely pink, and tasty. Since she wouldn’t eat much of what would be served on a sandwich, at under $ 5 a la carte, it was a good value as well. So much so that she picked up some more to-go a couple days later using the quick and simple drive-thru window. I’m not sure what to think about the other review from the couple that left hungry and went to grab burgers on the way home because they didn’t want to spend«another $ 75» to get more food here. Sure, we had tea and not a beer/wine, but in that last visit, the three of us walked away happy for about $ 15 a head. With no specific mention of food items, and continual mentioning of the«North Burnet» area, maybe that reviewer was thinking about one of the other«noun & noun» named places popping up these days. Here’s what I’m not as much of a fan of: The table service at dinner time. The staff was friendly and all, especially to the regulars that were there. But maybe too friendly, as conversations at other tables meant our drinks weren’t refilled as quickly as we’d like. Which led us to the discussion amongst ourselves that«I could just walk over to the fountain where I get my own drink at lunch» awkwardness. It just seems to me that the efficiency of the counter-service at lunch outweighed the«benefit» of full-service at dinner. The owners, and maybe even everyone else, might disagree. I don’t live close, but I do appreciate how folks that do might frequently come here. I probably wouldn’t drive across town to go there, but it’s a great place if I’m going nearby for some other reason, or if I’m meeting a friend which would make this a convenient choice. 3.65 stars

I’m really happy to know this place is here! I just ordered a pound of beef sirloin, and some garlicky green beans for the hubby and me to share. Yum! It’s not too far off from what we might cook at home on any given evening, but without the prep or the mess. Oh, and without having to pop in to the HEB to get fresh ingredients, so I feel validated about the«up charge» for take-out instead of eating in. I went through the drive through this time, but I am looking forward to going again in the future and sitting outside with a bottle of wine. The interior looks simple and rustic. The wine list looked awesome. Can’t wait to be off of this low carb/no booze kick! When I do, I will not only try the vino, but definitely the chicken and dumplings as well. Thanks, Sala and Betty, for opening up a cute, casual, and very friendly neighborhood restaurant where I can order low carb deliciousness! I’ll be back soon!

Was dying to try this place since a friend shared their menu with me. It definitely lived up to my expectations! I pulled into the drive thru and ordered the Sala and another side of fries, because having them in my sandwich is apparently not enough. The entire drive home my car smelled wonderful and when I finally sat down to eat, everything looked amazing. The small fries are very small, which was perfect for me as I prefer smaller portions. I liked the fries and love that they stick them in the sammies. The Sala was perfection. The tasty chicken was a perfect match with french fries, greens and a tangy yogurt sauce. All sat on a crusty roll called a bolillo. I ate the thing in about 3 minutes, it was so good. Can’t wait to come back for a sit-down meal and check the rest of the menu out. Yeah for tasty food up north!
