When I looked at this park on google maps it looked like my dog would love it. A ton of trees, a creek running through it … unfortunately the only part you can access is a narrow swath that runs along the west length of the park. The rest is walled off by a white stone wall, and opposite the wall(where the creek is) is a completely overgrown, unnavigable jungle that’s probably full of poison ivy and snakes. You’re bordered on the other side by the back yards of the houses along Crystalbrook Dr. A lot of those people have dogs, and their dogs bark like crazy when you use the park. It’s also a little sketchy as an off-leash area because it’s so close to the road. There are better, unofficial places to run your dog on the East Side.

For the life of me, I could not find the off leash area. Residents probably thought I was a creeper or escaped mental patient because I kept walking/driving back and forth looking for an entrance to a marked off-leash area for about 2 hours. Finally I gave up and left(at least my dog got tired anyway). This is how I attempted to access the park: From Loyola Ln I turned into Crystalbrook Dr. and drove down the whole street but I only saw houses and the playground/bbq area and a white wall that ran along peoples’ backyards. I trespassed on about ten properties on Crystalbrook Dr. and ran through their backyards and I even tried climbing over the wall(yeah, people definitely thought I was a crazy person) but it was all brush/trees and nowhere to get through. if yo’ve been here, please explain how to access it! i feel like i’m searching for the friggin Holy Grail. Maybe the park has been closed?

This is one of only two official leash-free dog area EAST of I-35 in Austin. It’s a nice grove of trees and thick grass(a sign it’s rarely used), bordered on one side by a tall stone wall. Good squirrel-chasing zone! But rumor says the neighbors don’t like the park being here. It’s kind of like you’re in their back yards. East Downtown Austin really needs a leash-free dog park.
