I came here looking to get some multivitamins and calcium supplements. I noticed this place on my drives to work, and thought I’d support a local business in the Oltorf area, rather than giving my money to a larger, already-established operation. The first time I went, the guy sold me a bottle of expired calcium at quite a discount. Hmm… expired, but I’m cool with that. Minerals don’t go bad. Then I asked for a good vegetarian-derived multivitamin. He pointed me to a multivitamin, but nowhere on the bottle did it say it was vegetarian-friendly. He assured me that it was, made the sale, and later when I got home and did some online research, I found that it was in fact not vegetarian. He also gave some questionable advice, which I’m not quite sure what to think about. In particular, that vegetarian men should not take any kind of iron supplements. Granted, too much iron is bad, but I don’t think cutting iron out completely is necessarily a good idea. I couldn’t find any supporting research for his claim, either. Though I never heard any racist remarks as mentioned by Jaime M, I won’t be going back.

If you don’t mind buying your supplements, alternative health care products, weight gainers/diet drugs, essential oils, homeopathic treatments, odd canned veggie meat and sardines from a racist person, come to Mother Nature’s. The man operating the store was relatively quiet when I walked in to look for a book and some natural soap, and I felt comfortable browsing for a really long time — I had to, because the stock was often tossed willy-nilly and things like essential oils were in three or four different places. When his daughter and her boyfriend came in, the epithets and slander started. They trashed on pretty much every ethnic group out there. When the girl noticed that I was there, she worried for about half a second, then they continued their tirade. Decent prices on hard-to-find products(I ended up buying a bar of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap for $ 3.35 and a Queen Helene’s Mint Julep mask(also available on rare occasions at other beauty supply stores and Wal-Mart, and highly recommended) for $ 4), but I won’t be back.
