Had a shooting there the other week at closing. Was closed down for about a week. Really a club atmosphere. Not for families.

I wanted to like this place. I really did! I had read some reviews and figured since I work in the area and I prefer to give my business to local establishments I’d give it a try. I website menu looked terrific and the lunch specials very reasonably priced. But things went down hill from there. My lunch buddy and I showed up just before 11:40 and were the only people in the place. Heck, we even wondered if anyone was working. After a minute or two we caught someone’s eye who got a waitress to seat us. She promptly gave us menus, took our drink order and returned shortly with our drinks. There were no lunch specials listed so we inquired(as we both had our tastebuds set on what we saw on the website). The waitress had to check(really?) and came back to tell us what it was — not what the website said, but these things happen. No big deal. We place our order and about 5 minutes later the waitress comes back to tell us they are bit short staffed in the kitchen and it may take a few extra minutes. Again, no big deal. Things happen. More than 20 minutes later they bring out my lunch buddies order — shrimp po’boy and green beans. Everything looked great! The large serving of green beans were hot and flavorful, but just a tad salty. The shrimp on the po’boy were perfectly fried, but there were only 4 of them. And the extras on the sandwich — that really enhance a po’boy — were pretty much non-existent. So, really not what I’d expect for a $ 9 sandwich. Shortly after that my shrimp étouffée arrived — a very large serving that looked gorgeous. I was told it would be about 5 minutes for my rice. So I dipped in and it was tasty! But with no rice or even bread(What? Étouffée without French bread?!), I was kind of at a loss. After almost 10 more minutes still no rice so I asked for my order to go. After 50 minutes I am finally in my car — with my take-out lunch — and I wonder was this just a perfect storm for this place or is it typical? I don’t know and I doubt I will try it again. But if you have some time on your hands and want to give it a try(because once we got the food it was pretty darn good!), you may have a better experience.

I have never been treated with such disrespect in my entire existence. As far as the night life goes, this place really doesn’t care about its loyal customers. They allow people who work the door(Big Mike is what they called him) to treat good customers as if they are a nonentity. They do not honor the information they allow their employees to post on their site or give out over the phone. I had family coming into town for New Year’s weekend and was proactive and called Friday during the day to verify the cover for Saturday, New Years Eve. I spoke with a very nice young lady that put me on hold to verify the information and returned to tell me that is was as usual, free before 10:00 p.m. as long as the place was not crowded, after that the cover would be $ 15. I asked her was she sure because of my family and she stated all the information was correct and that the site will reflect it as well. We all arrive Saturday before 10p.m. and to my surprise(NOT) we were told each person must pay $ 15. I felt everything would be fine once I gave them the name of their employee I spoke with, as well as the information she gave me. The person covering the door, Big Mike or whatever his real name is, stepped up very unprofessional and rude and dismissed all the information given. He nonchalantly stated he didn’t know of such an employee. After feeling humiliated and realizing it was pointless to continue the conversation with a person in charge who obviously doesn’t care, we digress. We go to pay and they tell us THEYDON’T TAKECREDITCARDSONSATURDAYNIGHT and suggested we find an ATM to pay with cash. I think a sign out front for their customers convenience would have been nice, don’t you think. We enter and quite a few people are making the same comment. I was quickly informed by a friend that the the employee I spoke with was actually working that night. I find her and she remembers our conversation in detail and agreed to follow me to talk to Mike. I introduce her and she confirms all the information she gave over the phone. To my surprise his nonchalant demeanor did not change, he actually had the audacity to try and fix it by offering to buy myself and my husband a drink later. I declined and let him know it was about my integrity and he has truly shown me how unprofessional he is. Later on that night Mike had made comments to others that he really didn’t give a @*$# and he can do whatever he wants because the kind of people that frequent the spot will just pay due to lack of other spots to go in Austin. What owner allows this to happen to their paying customers? Allow people to change rules and procedures during the hours of when a certain kind of people attend. All the customers during the day are treated with respect but the customers after hours are left to be treated like scum because of who the owner allows to cover the door. The Manager inside was informed of what was going on but stated he could take no action, the door is separate from the bar. It’s hard for me to believe nothing can be done about such inexcusable treatment from people like Mike that feel they can misinform and rip-off good customers. I had enjoyed Mojoe’s for the most part prior to running into to Mike. I wish the owner of the establishment would take a little time to make himself available during Fri & Sat late night hours. So he can assure that those valuable customers are also being treated respectfully and people such as Mike aren’t hired to run things as unfairly as he demonstrated on Saturday. My family and I had an awesome time once inside because that’s just the kind of people we are, we shook it off and enjoyed our night. I don’t wish for people to get fired out of this but for the owner to enforce his employee to respect ALL people. Practice awesome Customer Service and honor what is being advertised by your site and establishment at all times.

I went into Mojoe on a Thursday night with a group of guys and was introduced to their Karaōke night. Actually most of the singers were pretty good. We arrived around 9:30 so it was fairly empty. it is a nice mature crowd. Not old, not young, but mature, good people having a good time. They had a small buffet in the back bar area but we found a table and ordered dinner off of the menu. I had the crawfish étouffée which was pretty good. It could have used some more rice but that is my preference. it had a good spice to it but it was not overwhelming. My friend had the catfish basket which was actually a large plate full of catfish and fries. Each of our meals was $ 9.00 so it was a good deal. Around 11 the place got really packed and the karaōke continued. I really like this place except for the placement of the bars. Waitresses were really nice and their service was good. Bartenders were hit and miss with the service but it could have been an off night. This is a good place to go to eat, dance and sing.

How does this place only have 2 reviews? The wife and I went for lunch today and the po’boys are spectacular and the service was excellent. First. let me mention the shrimp po’boys — the shrimp was fried beautifully. It’s both fluffy and crunchy, served with lettuce and tomato, and presented nicely inside a thin, soft bun that wrapped it perfectly. It’s served with Mojoe sauce, a tangy, spicy award-winning homemade sauce that adds a great zing to the sandwich. It’s served with some excellent french fries — dusted in a light cajun spice prior to serving. Yum! The service was also excellent. The only place I’ve ever been to where the waitress brought a fresh lemon for me when she replenished our iced teas. The ambiance of this place is pure New Orleans. Great music playing and NO-inspired décor — but not kitschy. Cream colored walls, and curtains, black paneling in the bar area… you might forget for a minute that you’re not in the Big Easy.
