Good beer. Interesting layout. More than one area for music. Visiting Austin, I had already been to 6th Street so I was looking for something different. Glad I found this place. Most importantly I discovered Sister Fuzz. Great band. Hope to see them again when I return.

This place rocks! Two stages — one indoor and one outdoor. High energy, intense bands seem to end up here an awful lot.

I caught a few of the free shows here for SXSW this year and had a fucking baller ass time. The indoor and outdoor stages here, like most other established SXSW venues, is a major plus. You finish one set inside and then go outside to catch another. And what’s that in between the stages? A bar, you say? Well, isn’t that pretty god damn convenient! Nothing like an 11:15 set of Downtown Boys to make you a tad parched. The staff here is also super cool, as I spent a few minutes talking punk tattoos with the door guy on Monday night. All are helpful, professional, friendly, and embody the spirit that makes Austin what it is. The location is prime for all of your music and barhopping needs, so stop by Mohawk if you want to rock like there’s no tomorrow. Or don’t. I’m not your father.

It was a great venue to watch a touring band that came into town! My only complain would be more about the people than the venue itself. There were various couples smoking close to us and when there’s so many people crammed together it was really strong. Not sure how much Mohawk could have done about it, but it was definitely a downer. The bar selection was also good, and it wasn’t too crowded during the concert. I’ll likely be back soon to hear a new band.

Came here for a wrestling event and had no idea what they had on tap. I told the bartender that I was an IPA fan and he suggested a few based upon my likes. Decided on one that was so good, I ordered a second without hesitation. Will definitely be back.

I’ve never really been to a place like this. Being from Chicago, music venues that cater to twenty-somethings can be a bit up tight and security can be tight as well, that’s why I was a bit surprised when i saw a woman openly taking mushrooms at Mohawk. The atmosphere is laid back and the music was diverse. I will definitely return here if and when I go back to Austin.

Mohawk was a cool spot, stopped in for Free Week. Bands were amazing but due to being underage the management seemed to stalk me all night trying to see if I was drinking. Which I wasn’t even trying to do. Ruined what could have been a great couple of sets for me but I left early.

I can’t believe how many shows this place hosts. The awesome crew of bartenders keeps me coming back. Despite how crazy-busy this place can get, there is just this unique Texas feel to the place, combined with all of the Austin alcohol staples. You’ll have a memorable evening here regardless. If you want to see one of the better live venues in town, just go. Prepare to pay cash and cover, and eat beforehand.

I definitely enjoy coming to Mohawk for shows. The outdoor stage is great when the weather gets cooler and the inside stage is very intimate. The bartenders are very quick and attentive and I never feel like I’m being ignored. Prices are alright for the area, however I think the Lone Star is on the pricey side for what you’re drinking. You’re paying about a dollar cheaper up the road at Sidebar and other establishments. Still, it’s not a deal breaker. I’ll spend an extra buck or so just so I can continue to enjoy this great music spot.

Austin is constantly changing, which means favorite venues change as time goes on. One of the constants though has been Mohawk. From SXSW day parties to sold out shows, this venue is always fantastic to watch a show. Plus, they have an awesome full bar. You can’t go wrong.

Great concert venue — I am not a concert person but attended one here with a friend so she wouldn’t have to go alone, and I loved it. The atmosphere is awesome and the setting is intimate. Ordinarily, I would not even go see my favorite band perform — but if they were playing here, I would not miss the show! Order a Buffalo Tea & take your picture with the bear.

The Mohawk is my home club in Austin. This does not mean there are not amazing gigs at many other places all over town. Austin is amazing in the amount of incredible innovative bands that play every night in every genre you can think of. But if I don’t recognize anyone who is playing any of the clubs — and I am going to pick blind — I do better at the Mohawk than I do with any other shot in the dark. They mostly program alt, with an occasional run on electronica. At any club, if you are picking blind, you have only a one in four shot that the band you are hearing is any good. Multiple bands on the bill(the Mohawk generally programs two to four a night) increases your chances of getting lucky. When you win the lottery at the Mohawk you win bigger than you do at most other clubs. The best bands of the lot are unbelievably innovative from a composition standpoint. The players are total masters of their instruments. New sounds, new formats, new ideas about what can be done with a song … You are more likely to get that at the Mohawk than you will at other places. Now Unilocal is mostly about restaurant reviewing … and the Mohawk is a bar as well as a music venue. How is it as a bar? Not too shabby. They are not the mixmasters of the century. They have mixed drinks but a lot of them are questionable. But they compensate with a fine fine collection of interesting bottles. Great ryes. Great scotches. Great bourbons. The Mohawk is not at the level of say a Bar 2211 which is the best whiskey establishment I have found in town. But there is always something new and interesting to put in your glass to occupy your attention. Which is just as well for nursing yourself through the three loser bands that it is your bad luck to hear, before the Genius of the Century gets up on stage and expands the universe of what can be done with electric guitars.

Saw Geto Boys here & truly fell in love with this place! All these patio, outdoor gems, man. This place has multiple levels, and NOBAD«seating»!! Drinks are stout, and this place accommodates a lot of damn people. Upstairs and up back is where it’s at in this place.

large venue with multiple stages, spaces and plenty of room to chill. I got a chance to walk around and explore the venue and was impressed by how much room they have. lots of great acts have come through the doors and during special events it gets crazy packed. loved the beer selection, loved the tattoo’ed bearded staff and the bear-wrestling-rocker-hard-ass atmosphere.

Mohawk is my favorite music venue in Austin. Between the great lineup of local and touring bands and the wonderful outdoor stage(balconies!), Mohawk truly embodies the Austin music scene. The audio engineering is also on point, I don’t think I’ve yet been to a poorly balanced show. I’m sure the residents of the condos across the street might disagree with me, but it’s their own fault for moving there. The venue is small enough to feel intimate but is capable of packing a fair number of people in there thanks to the balcony areas. The inside bar sports an impressive collection of epic bead portraits featuring the employees of Mohawk. Given their dedication to facial hair, you’d think they might be named differently.

Great venue but holy shit do you have one of the saltiest bar tenders. Tall old guy, gray hair. I was there mid-day, not extremely busy. you were advertising a Bulleit special so I ask him what the special was. He pauses, stares at me, over animatedly walks back to the bar, pulls of a bottle of Bulleit, holds it in my face and brings his finger to the bottle and says, «Bulleit» like I’m 2 and learning names for objects. Aaaaaalright. I’ll play. So I say«Ohhh Bulleit» like I finally realized what one of America’s most popular bourbons was. «Great, I’ll have an old fashioned.» He shakes his head, «I’m can’t make you an old fashioned.» Being a bartender myself I say, «That’s fine, I can teach you… Really, what can you make?» He looks up from pretending to clean the ice bin, «Whisky soda». Well anyone with a brain and two hands can make a fucking whisky soda so I move down the bar and get the drink I had wanted. If you don’t like the job you’re in, get a new one. Stop being cunty towards the people that are giving you your living.

I got talked into going to a show here where they had some sort of «air sex competition» going on. The night I came they were having the finals so it was very packed. The place has a really neat design. When you first walk in you can go the the right and there is a bar area which is inside and the rest of the venue is located outside pretty much, so if it’s cold out, bring a jacket. We ended up going all the way upstairs to this set of bleachers where you can get a really good view of the stage. The sound was perfect and the drinks were nice and strong. Great location and good vibes. I’d come see a show here for sure!

Came here for a couple of drinks during happy hour and really, really enjoyed it. The bartender was super nice, the few other customers who chatted me up were super nice. They have a good beer selection, both bottles and taps, and the prices are quite good. I know this is a music scene and a band was just warming up as I left… the concert area looked pretty great, but shows were not cheap.

Ok, technically I have only been to Mohawks once but it was overall a good experience. My guy loves wrestling so we came for the Anachary wrestling event this past weekend. It was a typical 100 degree ATX summer day and the event was held outside(since that was where the stage is). I was not particularly happy about this. But alas, the things we do for love. The venue inside was surprisingly clean. The bartenders and event coordinators were really helpful and kind. The drinks were about average, a 16 ounce Lonestar was $ 4, and they had free water available for anyone who wanted it. Overall, I was pleased with the staff and the venue. Although I was hesitant to come here after they bumped Sage Francis from their lineup when he came to Austin this summer. But I would go back for future events.

Went for the Breeders on NYE. Great outdoor viewing area(if you are tall, near the front, or on a balcony, that is), multiple bars for easy access, appropriately divey vibe, reasonable drink prices. Why only three stars? Well, the fact that they ran out of many beers on a holiday is annoying but not fatal. They lose at least one star, though, for the«no telephone» policy. Really? You’re a concert venue and you won’t publish/man a phone number so people can ask questions about showtimes and policies?

I’m always impressed with the music lineups Mohawk books. Their name painted in red on the brick wall is an Austin staple. And lining up a few hours before a concert is no surprise at this venue. With all the different viewing areas, I like to view from the top floor(rooftop level). This allows me to see the whole stage without squeezing against people. In addition, there’s less people on the top floor, which means faster and easier service at the bar. From my experience, try to get into the venue early or else you’ll be struggling with people to even move an inch. The only complaint I have is the confusion of where Will-Call ticket holders should line up before the concert. I’ve spent time lining up in the main entrance line for hours, only to find out that I should have been lining up at the side entrance… minutes before doors open. I just wish that was more organized. Everything else is great.
