I really wanted to like this place, and had never heard of it… But: –Bad service –Bad food –Overpriced –Online menu not matched to actual menu Details below: I order online– menu mismatched to menu in store. should have been a red flag. Get there, my food has been sitting for at least 15 minutes and is cold, and when I’m rung up the price is $ 10.50 instead of $ 7.99 like it said online. Just as I’m trying to say something, the guy behind the counter interrupts me and keeps trying to shut me up with, «I’m looking into it.» I don’t even want to fight and just pay, take my food to go and get back to work. After having to microwave it, the food is terrible. I got 2 fresca tacos, and besides the queso being congealed, the tortilla is soggy, there’s almost no flavor, and the tortilla is falling apart the entire time. I will not be back.

I work right across the way from Mighty Bird, and have lived fairly close for a long time, but had never been in. I happened to score a MB bean and egg breakfast taco at work and was super impressed with the homemade tortilla, the flavorful beans, and creamy cheese. I finally stopped in for lunch the other day, and I’m so glad I did! I ordered the hatch chili chicken burrito meal, which comes with rice and beans, plus a soda for ten bucks. I grabbed a couple of the salsas to try, and the excellent craft root beer soda. The burrito was fresh and tasty, and big enough for two meals. I also liked the refried black beans, the rice, and the salsas were great! At MB, I was greeted several times by multiple employees, and I liked the laid back vibe. That, and quality food made with good ingredients means I’ll be back!

I wanted to like this place. But sadly my first impression is just that… two stars. Sunday. I needed a quick bite. Oh, Might Bird is right there. Hmm. Never been there. I ordered at 12:11. At 12:21, I still did not have my food but yet I watched three people behind me get their food and walk out. Evidentially the online orders get priority… so the 3:30 turn around time on the ticket quote I saw from the manager on another post here is completely false. I asked about my food and they said it was on its way and that the other people had called in the order before getting here. So about 15−17min after I ordered, I finally get my food. I ordered a Monterrey Wrap… beans, rice, avocado, pico, cheese, ranch sauce, etc. I didn’t modify the order. I received eggs, black beans, rice, chicken. No avocado. No pico. No cilantro. And where the hell did it say EGG??? On the menu. Floor was a mess behind the counter which you can see from the sitting area. And woman working the register was wearing slippers. Only two things were good… the queso and craft sodas.

Torchy’s who? This place is right by my office and I drive by it all the time. Every time I’ve seen it I’m like«dang, I need to try that place» because their parking lot is packed most times of the day. I had only a few minutes to grab a late lunch and I’m so glad MB crossed my mind. I was surprised there were that many people there at 1:45 on a week day, but after eating my meal, I’m not. As I’m standing there pondering the menu, the very friendly guy up front walked me through everything they have and what each option is like. The other two girls behind the counter said hello and were also very nice. I ordered a salad(because bikinis exist), but I couldn’t help but get a small chips & queso as well. The queso is better than Torchy’s. Yes, better. My salad was huge and very tasty. Their rotisserie chicken is tender and juicy with a great flavor. It almost made me forget I was eating a stupid salad. They also have Austin based artisan sodas! They give the Maine Root guys a run for their money. While I was getting my drink and waiting on my food I tried their taco sauces. YUM. Long story short, I can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. They have some awesome looking bfast tacos(on homemade tortillas) and also do group catering as well. Please support this awesome Austin based business!

Like people have said in other reviews, I’d put these folks right up there with Torchy’s and any other of the awesome taco places around Austin. Great selection of tacos(both breakfast and non) and wraps. Their salsas, coffee, and especially their tortillas are solid, but the best part is definitely the chicken. Instead of eating there, getting a whole or half chicken to take home is great for multiple meals over the course of a few days. Excellent food, reasonable prices, and quick and friendly service!

So I came to this place because I heard good things. I only tried one taco and I wasn’t expecting too much so I didn’t take a pic. But the taco was hefty. Loaded with rotisserie chicken and avocado. Really large taco for $ 4.5. For a taco joint pretty good. Significantly better than Fuego or Mad taco. This place I would totally come back to. It’s not just tacos. Their queso is top notch. If you stop by you have to try some. Only reason for the rating because it’s the first visit and they serve these Austin based sodas. I usually don’t like the artisan soda. I don’t know how they are since I didn’t try it. Good place to try

Tacos are a sacred food. They are not to be desecrated with lousy ingredients or bad combinations. In case you didn’t know, I eat too many tacos for my own good. So believe me when I say this didn’t cut it. My «vegetarian» taco had an avocado on it. With some cheese. Yeah. That’s all. And the other one had«chipotle style» salsa(corn, tomatoes and onions) If I said this once, I’ve said it a million times — VEGETARIANSAREPEOPLETOO. WELOVEFOODTOO. not everything has to have meat on it for it to be tasty. The two taco plate is $ 8.99 and comes with rice and beans. The guys behind the counter also messed up our order — and this made me pretty crabby.(I waited all morning to eat my Sunday taco, damnit!) it’s not hard to slice up an avocado and put it on a tortilla. Credit where credit is due: their green sauce is absolutely fantastic. I had 4 cups of the stuff. It made up for the miserable taco. I noticed that there are some wraps, and soup and things. Maybe, when the terrible taco wound has healed, i’ll give it a try. There are some excellent taco places in Austin. This isn’t one of them, in my humble opinion. Sorry, but I’d rather go to tacodeli and gorge myself with their 5 vegetarian tacos. Sunday service was slow, even though the place was kinda empty. And ’twas rather grimy– but that I really don’t care about.(Stomach of steel.) There are some Craft sodas, which I guess is pretty cool. Please. Add a vegetarian option with actual vegetables. Like peppers and onions. Or even mushrooms. In short — only for chicken lovers.

Tacos here were pretty meh. Service here was pretty bad. Pricy for tacos as well, almost 5 dollars a taco and they were really bad too wth. You’ll need to eat 3 of them in order for them to fill you up unless you get full easily. I wanted a wrap, they were out of them… not good to be out of something in the middle of the afternoon, very unprofessional. Not coming back here again.

Wow, last couple of hours before I catch my flight back to Miami, and I finally ate some home-cooked meal, we’ll just about the same as if the misses cooked and wrapped me a nicely warm home made breakfast tacos, Fast and polite, was my service, we’ll they just finished breakfast shift.

Really, really good breakfast tacos… especially their BEC. They LOADUP on the bacon that’s diced up into smaller pieces so every bite includes bacon. Their staff is always friendly and quick. Love this place.

Dang! Why all the vitriol, people? Maybe I’ve just been lucky or something, but every meal I’ve ever had from Mighty Bird has been a positive experience at a reasonable price point. Here’s what a like about this 183 North location(conveniently located to the tech corridor offices off Oak Knoll): — Chicken chorizo. Oh… so… tasty. I concur with Phillip’s description; it requires no salsa or any other enhancement. Get the grab & go g-free taco with egg & cheese on homemade corn tortilla — breakfast of the gods for only $ 2.39, and it’s really big enough to be considered a burrito. — Anderson Coffee, real half & half, and tall to go cups. — Free wifi! — Habanero salsa. Burns so good! Reminds me of TacoDeli’s creamy green Doña salsa, only orange and with seeds. — Friendly, attentive service. Once when the manager overheard me raving about the salsa, he comped me a basket of chips so I could continue savoring them. Another time, they were totally slammed with a line out the door at lunch and another manager came around handing out«free taco next time» cards to thank patrons for their patience. The people behind the counter are also always warm & smiley with me. Feels nice! — Excellent musical selections. I’m not sure what kind of service they use, but every time I’m in the store, I’m impressed with eclectic playlist covering all genres of music a true«Keep Austin Weird» local would appreciate. Here’s what could be better: — Outdoor tables need a regular wipe-down, as they accumulate dust from the busy highway nearby.

So my husband and I stopped in here last night after a long day and we got a whole rotisserie chicken meal with flour tortillas, beans, rice and some queso with guacamole on the side, and we were not disappointed. This was decent fare. I had never heard of Mighty Bird before, and upon looking at their menu online, I was honestly sort of confused. Was this a rotisserie chicken place like Boston Market? Or was this a taco place like Torchy’s? As it turns out, it’s sort of both and while it is an odd concept, it’s a good one and it works. The only thing that wasn’t up to par was the rice. It was oddly undercooked and also dry. It looked pretty — with lots of cilantro leaves mixed in and veggies, but sadly lacked taste and the texture was majorly off. The beans were seasoned and nice, the tortillas were really good, the rotisserie chicken was moist and flavorful, and the queso was excellent with big chunks of hatch peppers in it. The guacamole and the chips were also pretty good. I was thinking of going four stars on this, but the rice really was deplorable, so I’m going three, but I’m going to say that really it’s 3.5. The other reason for the dropped star count is that their online ordering didn’t work for the whole chicken, so my husband had to call it in, and when he got there pick up for orders was a little confusing. But yah, we’ll be back… it was good!

It’s always better to be pleasantly surprised than mildly disappointed, especially when you’re not sure what to expect. I think that’s the one thing restaurants and marriages have in common. Restaurants are cheaper. Mighty Bird is a pleasant surprise. Think rotisserie chicken meets Chipotle, and you get the idea. There’s a touch of that same corporate checklist feeling here, but that’s how you become a successful franchise. I do appreciate Mighty Bird’s touches that keep it «Austin» — breakfast tacos, veggie & gf options, Maine Root soda, Anderson’s coffee; they also have a good green chili queso, but I didn’t feel the need to return my «Team Torchy’s Queso» t-shirt. I like the Southwest salad here, even though it may be a tad overpriced at $ 9. You do get big chunks of chicken & avocado, and a surprisingly good jalapeño ranch dressing with a bonus kick. Go with Alison L’s pro tip and request your salad in a take-out bowl, even if you’re eating in-house — you’ll have more room to maneuver your fork, and it’ll feel like a better deal. I’m not sure Mighty Bird will win awards for their concept of design and décor, but it is maximum use of a minimal space. The most colorful thing I noticed was their outside logo, but I don’t know if that’s a big deal for you or not. I do know if your particular journey somehow involves the need for rotisseried chicken — in a variety of tasty & clever ways — Mighty Bird is a pleasant path to follow.

This place is mighty delicious! I first tried them at the Golden Age party and have been wanting to go back since. I finally swung by for lunch and ran into some mighty fine Unilocalers. We shared some laughs and some mighty creamy queso. I got the southwest salad which was really impressive with avocado, jalapeño ranch, and of course, their signature rotisserie chicken. My only complaint was that it came in this tinyyyyyy bowl so it was mighty hard to toss everything together. I heard the togo container is larger so I might(y?) request that next time but… it goes against everything I believe about sustainability! I’m mighty torn. Also, they just released a Groupon so it’s now also mighty affordable.

Mighty Bird seems to me to be the Texas equivalent of a weird Taco Bell /KFC combo elsewhere in the country. The tortillas are fresh made right in front of you, but the buck stops there in terms of impressiveness. I got a couple vegetarian AM tacos with their Mighty Bird sauce and was immediately put off by the sauce. The tacos were already lacking in terms of flavor and portion, throw on some(what appeared to be) cheap thousand island dressing and it made this a very unpleasant experience. I really wouldn’t return here if given an option. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother, either and opt to go somewhere else.

The tacos I got here were not quite what I expected. But good to eat none the less. I expected the chicken to be shredded, not just hunks of rotisserie chicken. The toppings and sauces on the tacos were good, and their ranch type sauce was delicious. But where this place stands out the most after my visit was the incredible queso. I should have just ordered it and some tortillas I would have been just fine that way. The queso was thick and hearty, I think it might have even had some chicken in it. There was no simple chip dipping, you had to use a few get a good glop of the cheesy goodness out of the container. I will go back and try some other options, but the queso will happen again for sure! See my pictures to see the types of tacos I ordered.

I’m going to preface this by saying — I just had one of the best salads I’ve had in a very long time here. And also, I will definitely be back. However, Mighty Bird still has a few kinks to work out. I came in for a quick to go order, and stood stupidly at the register for well over 5 minutes. No one came to ask me what I wanted to order — in fact, they pretty much avoided all eye contact with me! I kind of looked around to make sure I wasn’t in the wrong place, and considered leaving briefly. But no. I wanted my salad. I was going to get through this!!! Finally, someone came and cheerfully asked me what I wanted. Some items were a bit expensive, but personally, I feel that their salad prices are fairly reasonable. Just a dollar or so more than a Taco Cabana salad — no big deal. My salad(though worth it) ended up taking them a little more time than I would have hoped to put together — but I could see them cutting up fresh ingredients, so I was okay with waiting. And it was worth it. WORTHIT! The lettuce was crisp and green, the chicken was lean and moist, and the charred corn was just wonderful(I will ask for more, in the future!). I understand that this restaurant is still a bit new — and I look forward to seeing them live up to their potential. This place has cemented itself as a «usual» lunch spot for me. Excited to go back!
