They’re closed, gone. Have been for a while. The Jamaican place next to them is pretty good.

Great food and the owner is such a bro. I forgot to get something to drink and instead of me having to charge a dollar to my card he just handed me a bottle of water and told me I could pay later. The food is fantastic, especially the veggie dishes(the greek salad and potatoes are awesome and don’t make me feel all sluggish and gross after lunch) and the Greek burger which is STUFFEDWITHFETACHEESE. I mean, holy crap, why doesn’t every burger place ever do this? The souvlaki is also very good, though it tends to be a bit messy just because of the nature of the dish. Don’t worry though, you get an excellent pita to soak up all the yummy, greasy delicousness. I think the 6th street trailer park is being converted to condo space or something(DAMNTHEMAN) but if I recall, the trailer is moving over to 12th and Waller. This place is what Austin is all about. So eat there already, jerk.

I had the chicken soulvaki pita, it was delicious! The guy who worked there was very nice and the prices are very good as well. I will definitely be returning!

WTF Austin… Why were you hiding this gem from me!!! I have been searching for a good greek restaraunt in austin since I moved here a year ago. Problem. Solved. Mati has exquisite food. The dude who runs it is really friendly and accommodating. I would give it 5 stars except there is a very limited selection of food. Your options are chicken and pork. What is Greek good without lamb. A damn shame, that’s what! Also, my food probably took about 15 minutes to come out. That’s a long time for a truck. His pita bread is excellent though. Still this is the best thing I can find in Austin for Greek food(so far). The search continues, and may the odds be ever in my favor.

In the midst of writing this I may or may not be getting distracted by the thought of eating another order of chicken souvlaki on pita bread with tomatoes. I may or may not be unable to pay attention to writing this review because I’m daydreaming about the lambheaveninpattyform that is the kefthede. I may or may not be abandoning writing this review right now to get in my car and speed down to East 6th right now to order everything they have before someone else has a chance to steal one bite of what Chef/owner/greekculinarygod Jason Rodis is cooking up in that Mati-emblazoned trailer of his.

Mati is a trailer that posses a very… evil name. Looking back on it, should I have eaten here? Eh… questionable. I don’t want to eat somewhere that is going to «curse» me… I looked it up, and Mati is the«evil eye» that everyone so well knows. The menu here is quite unique for a trailer, though it is a Greek-based trailer. More and more, I get shocked by these dang mobile eateries. I mean, there are Mexican trailers, ravioli trailers, heck, even African trailers. How in the world has there not been a Greek trailer yet?! Well, I found one, and that was shocking, surprisingly. I like writing trailer reviews because I do not have to consider service, décor, or ambiance. They are traditionally settled into a trailer park, and there is some seating, one guy taking orders, and, well… food. Out of disposable containers. At a low price. I just went with a batch of: OK, I just looked up the translation. Literally, Google cranked out some Greek letters, of which I am quite familiar with. Pi, alpha, Tau, alpha, Tau, eta, sigma. Patates. Lemonates. So, I had the Greek tubers. They were perfectly roasted, with a couple pieces being soft and a couple just barely holding onto«al dente». The thyme, lemon, and spices just played nice. I don’t know why I liked them so much… but on a cold day, these little oven-roasted guys just really hit the spot. Especially with a beer. Go East, Go Greek. I need to Go East and Go Greek again. Jason Rodis is awesome. I mean a burger with Greek seasoning? Yes, please.

Aight’ people this place is greek, I mean great! har har bad joke! I’m on a negative kick but this place gets 5 stars! I’m not a big fan of Greek food cause I’ve only had fake americanized cylinders of spinning mystery meat you shave off with paul bunions norelco. This place is great though. I had the chicken with roasted potatoes and my god it was fantastic! amazing herbs and seasonings and the potatoes were really out of this world. Its super cheap too. I came back and had the stuffed pepper and soup both fantastic! If you are on the eastside and hungry check this place out!

I took my first trip to the Eastside Drive-in and after scanning the menus of the trailers there and decided to try out Mati Greek Trailer. Chef/owner Jason Rodis is a character. He’s one of those people who makes me feel like I’m a step behind or missing out on the joke– in a good way. His passion about Greek cuisine shows through the enthusiastic and proud way he talks about his menu. I went with the chicken souvlaki pita for $ 6.(Should I admit here that I knew what souvlaki would taste like based on my favorite Pita Pit menu item? I love my Pita Pit!) Souvlaki is traditionally a lamb dish, but can be prepared with other meats or just vegetables. At Mati you can order«pork, chicken, shrimp or mushrooms marinated in herbs and olive oil grilled then topped with red onions and tomatoes.» The tzatziki sauce was excellent, not too oily and no mint from what I could tell. The chicken was easy to slide off the skewer and the marinade made the meat juicy and tender. I liked the healthy portion of onions and tomatoes, but some shredded lettuce wouldn’t have hurt. My favorite part though was the pita! It reminded me of a homemade tortilla: it was soft, warm, and got extra attention from the tzatziki sauce. Mmm Rodis’ «125%» Greek heritage makes for authentic Greek dishes right in East Austin. I enjoyed my lunch and didn’t walk away feeling like I had overindulged… that came later when I went for froyo. Head over to Mati at the East Side Drive-in, 1001 East 6th street, Austin, TX78702. @MatiGRtrailer

It’s true, the Greek«burger» here is pretty good. But while the patty with feta was awesome, the bun was cold and kind of sad. The soulvaki plates were had by friends. And while everyone agreed the meats were excellent, the servings were on the small side to be considered filling. Note: I am not a native Texan, my idea of the perfect portion is considerably smaller than others’. That being said, for Greek street food, I was expecting bigger portions for what you pay. I hate to give a cute local stand 3 stars, but what’s wrong with this stand is what I find wrong with the whole food stand movement. The owner has to charge more because they are buying in small quantities and that cost gets passed to the consumer. So I end up paying 7 bucks for a burger with no table service. So if you like food trailers, you’ll like this place. I just uh, don’t like them at all.

Delicious feta burger: Moist burger stuffed with feta, topped with lettuce and tomato, with tzatziki sauce. The bread is delicious too, ciabatta, I think. The service is great and the owner chef is always willing to chat about the food. It’s on a trailer park with a dozen or so trucks. There are tons of tables and nice lights hung to help with the ambiance. Great place to stop before hitting up the East 6th bars.

Imagine a nice thick burger, perfectly cooked with lots of spices and herbs adding to its tender savoriness. Now, imagine biting into this delicious juicy burger and finding an oozing center of soft feta cheese. Stuff it into a toasted bun with some tomato and tzatziki on top and you’ve got one heck of a tasty burger. They may call it «Kefthede» but I can’t pronounce it so let’s just call it totally delicious. Not only is the food tasty, but the owner is super friendly too. He come out and checked to make sure my girlfriend and I were enjoying our food, and happily talked about the burgering process. If my photo of their menu is too hard to read, their full menu is on their facebook page:

I ate the Kolokithokeftedes(zucchini fritters), made fresh by a Greekman with some top-notch tzatziki. I highly recommend, and I’ll be back to try the other stuff on the menu. Thanks for having good veggie options!
