40 minutes. 40 minutes for six tacos. No special orders or anything crazy. Four steak and two barbacoa. Only seven orders in front of us, but they make each one individually instead of making batches of meat to get orders out more quickly. The woman taking our order was not friendly and seemed annoyed that we were coming to ask about it after more than a half hour of waiting. She rudely told us there was only one more order ahead of us, which ended up not bein The tacos themselves were good. Not the best I’ve ever had like some reviews on here are saying, but I will admit they were solid. Still, not worth the wait and attitude.

Excellent, authentic Mexican food and tacos. Dropped in this morning while my car was being worked on and thoroughly enjoyed the two breakfast tacos I ordered. I was able to add grilled onions and serranos. The price was a bargain and the taste amazing!

The best tacos in Austin don’t waist your money on torchys or taco deli, when you can eat here for less and the food is so much better… Love this place

Migas Sunday this morning took place at a little spot up north called Matamoros Tacos. If you go here, don’t judge it by its appearance! It’s connected to a convenience store and just about everything is in Spanish. The food though? Well, it’s just about as close to authentic as you will get on this side of the border. The sweet ladies in the kitchen cook up a mean plate of Migas, with a little spice and a lot of love. If you want REAL, homemade Mexican food, go check out Matamoros!

Delicious! We had been shopping across the street at the Asian food market & wanted to try something new. I looked up nearby restaurants on Unilocal and came across this place. Delicious! I had the Barbacoa GordiQueso & I’m so glad we came across this place so randomly, because I’ll definitely be back whenever I crave legit, fresh & very tasty Mexican food!

This is by far my favorite Taco stand in Austin, and soon will be yours too if you dig authentic tacos. I have been here several times and continue to be impressed. After trying other taco stands I’m constantly reminded why I love this place so much. I have tried several things and anything I get is pretty much always delicious. My favorite thing would have to be hands down the barbacoa torta it’s so flavorful, seasoned and cooked just right. The line can get to be pretty long especially on the weekends, so be prepared to wait a little bit but I promise it’s well worth the wait. They open at 7 am for all the early birds and stay open until 3 am for all you night owls. This is definitely a place you should stop by at least once!

Seriously guys, this is one of the best taco spots in Austin and I’m happy that a cab driver told me about it. I haven’t tried everything, but their bistek, carnitas, and especial tacos are all fantastic. All the meats are flavorful, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The tortillas are fresh. Not sure if they make them in house(anyone know for sure?), but if not, they get them fresh from a better-than-average supplier. I prefer their salsa roja to the verde, but both are good. My only criticism is that their pastor is ok, but not great. They definitely don’t make it on a spit, and it’s missing some of the smoky-fruity thing that makes a great pastor. But I’m just nit-picking. It’s still really good. Prices and service are also top notch.

I can always count on this taco truck for night cravings. Authentic tacos at it best. Cash only and it’s open very late past 2am at times.

Don’t let the look of the location fool you. Awesome tacos. Great prices. One of Austin’s best taco trucks.

Ever wondered what a REAL taco tastes like? Tired of the tex-mex americana imitation? Tired of waiting in line behind hipsters and paying for overpriced tacos? Then wait no longer! Matamoros on the outside looks like a modest recreational(Like that of breaking bad) but beyond its simple grungy exterior lies the heart of a true contender. The barbaqoa in this place is out of this world. Comes out to you HOT. Like… if you ever put a hot pocket in the microwave for too long hot. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. Comparable to barbaqoas found in Chihuahua and Oxaca. Gelatinous, fatty, meaty, all the things you want to quiet that inner voice inside your head… NO…not now STEVE. The down points are that the sauces could be a little bit better. Lime was also a little old and dry. Guess they were trying to give it character. Meh. Do’s: Barbaqoa Tacos with corn tortillas Barbaqoa Tortas Barbaqoa Don’t: Skip out on this place! Judge it by its looks.

Kind of shady looking but believe me and trust me when I say they are the MOST delicious tacos… besides my grandma’s. I’ve been coming to this place for about 9 years… love it.

Probably the best tacos in atx. No lie. Totally sketchy spot, but awesome tacos. Women running the register can’t even speak English so be prepared to do your own math on order.

Carnitas or barbacoa gordita, con aguacate. Para aqui, por favor. Salsa verde. Oh, y uno tenedor, y uno cuchillo, por favor. If she asks about the onions, you want these onions. This all the spanish you need to know to have your taste buds sweetly caressed at Matamoros. It will cost you $ 4.75 with tip. She always gets a tip.

Located adjacent to a convenience store, this small dirty gem is rockin’! Go in the store, buy your drink(not alcohol though [they won’t allow]) and enter through the door less entry into the small tacoria. It has maybe four tables along the wall and five bar stools. It is dirty. It is filthy. This is expected at joints like this, so, won’t hold that against them. They do try to keep it clean. When customers leave they skirmish to the area, remove the trash, and give the area a couple swipes with a rag. Hmmm, well, you know, how many bathroom door handles have you grabbed bare handed from inside the bathroom. Moving on. Their menu is all Espanol except the breakfast taco’s. Not a problemo as I can pick out certain words and make it work for me. My biggest challenge was delivering my order to the señora. I had trouble explaining uno picadillo taco as opposed to the platillo. Love my spanglish? We made it happen. She was a sweetheart. Got my taco, dumped some green salsa on it, squeezed my fresh lime slice all over it and chowed down! Wow! Wow! Wow! I gotta say that taco ranked up there with the best of them! The flour tortilla was nice and thin and crisply grilled. The picadillo was not over greased, nor did it have too much potato, only a couple of cubes. The tomato, lettuce and onion were perfect flavor additions. That green salsa was a definite ass burn! I will come back here. I saw some plates coming out of the window that were looking pretty freaking good. I love little jewels like this. These kinds of places are usually where you find your best food. Last to note: parking is a limited bitch! Gracias Matamoros!!!

Not too shabby, Matamoros Tacos — I like you. I almost feel bad for you guys, though. I tried you the day AFTER I tried the tacos over at El Tacorrido, and, well… if you’ve read the review I gave for them, you’ll notice that I’m ridiculously in love with their tacos. However, that’s not to say that I don’t like yours. Matter of fact, your tacos were great. This is a hole-in-the-wall type place, but you guys make some seriously yummy food, too. I had the carnitas, al pastor, and barbacoa tacos here, and they were done very well. I got ‘em on flour tortillas. I’ll give you guys this: your flour tortillas are even better than the ones at El Tacorrido. The girls who were working here on Saturday were great, and definitely know what they’re doing. Thanks for giving me grilled onions for my tacos, and the extra limes to squeeze on top. Y’all are wonderful, and I’m certain I’ll be in to visit you guys again. Oh, btw, I’m pretty sure this place is cash-only.

I went here b/c Kathy H. said to… and she most definitely did NOT steer me wrong. I ordered a pork torta with everything on it. OMNOMNOM! Seriously… this was a seriously good sandwich. And… it was the size of the entire plate. AND… I got the red and green sauce on the side: DIVINE. I am partial to the green sauce. Man… I want another one of those tortas now. At any rate, it’s cheap, it’s good, and it’s close to my work. Definitely try this place out. I’ve already had 2 tortas in a week’s time.

This place really surprised me. I’ve had really good food at food trailers before but how can I get lucky enough to find a place this good so close to my work? Don’t let the location(in the parking lot of a Conoco gas station) scare you away. I’ve had several different things here before and have really enjoyed them all. Tortas, tacos, carnitas, fajitas… they are all yummy. Great value for your $ here. On a side note, these are the same people that have the Matamoros Tacos in the Metro Star Market down the road. They have a little sit down area inside there. Make sure you have cash because they don’t accept plastic.

This taco truck is ideal in most ways: it is open until 3 am, it is supercheap, and it is delicious. It is located in the north end of a Conoco gas station at the North Lamar @ Neans intersection. The staff is friendly and willing to put up with my terrible questions in Spanglish. Why eat fast food when this place serves freshly-cooked, hot, delicious food at even cheaper prices? There were several things on the menu I have to look up the definition for. They have a steak taco special(Bistec Especial or something) that is only $ 1.75 and is incredibly delicious. I’ve also had the chicken tacos. The tacos here are my favorite in Austin. Unlike Taco More, there is no salsa bar, though. Every time I go, I’m the only non-Mexican among lots of customers so it must be a pretty authentic place.
