Excellent food. Really authentic Dhaba experience Veg and non-veg both are excellent.

This trailer is a new favorite of mine– tried the lamb korma the other night and was not expecting it to be so good. The mix of spices is on point, and the order came with a hearty helping of lamb and rice. I wanted to try the naan, but I had already eaten all of the korma and was finding it somewhat difficult to get up. The food comes out within 10 minutes and the people there are very nice and accommodating. I don’t live near Rainey, but I will definitely be coming back!

We tried only the chicken 65 appetizer but I was pleased that it tasted like eating at a restaurant in India. However this dish traditionally dryer than what we got the truck … It was certainly greasy at the bottom of the cup of chicken. Still pretty good taste wise.

After a night of drinking, what’s better/worse for you than Indian food? Nothing! So after a hopping a few bars on Rainey St, we decided to get some late night chicken biryani and lamb roganjosh. Here’s a tip — check in on Unilocal and they’ll take $ 3 off $ 20. Basically, they didn’t charge us for the two orders of naan we got. The guy in the truck was nice. Meals are around $ 8 – 10. The lamb roganjosh had a nice kick to it, though a bit heavy on the bones. The chicken biryani was a huge portion with sauce on the side, which was nice. There are shared picnic tables for the area, including Masala Dhaba, the taco and Thai trucks. Great for late night eats!

VERYBLAND. I got the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan and neither had any hint of spice. The food came quickly, but I would’ve preferred to wait longer for better food. The 5 other people who sat at my table hated their food. Go to any other Indian restaurant in Austin — not this one.

This is my go-to Indian place! The guys that work the truck are super friendly, and the food is really fresh. Tons of veggie options!

I went here after a night on Rainey. Being previously disappointed with G’Raj Mahal, I decided to try out Masala Dhaba. The trailer is a little hidden in between a couple of bars on the eastern side of Rainey street. I ordered my go to Indian dish, paneer tikka masala. They were unfortunately unable to make any naan due to an issue with their cooking equipment, or something. The paneer tikka masala was very soupy. It was odd. Generally, the tikka masala sauce is more of a thick gravy consistency, but this was almost like it was watered down or something. The flavors were there, but it was like I was eating soup with rice in it. I also didn’t love it that the chunks of paneer were a little small, but that’s really just my preference. I’m giving 4 stars because maybe it was just a fluke and I can’t be upset that they were unable to make naan. I’m sure they’re working on getting whatever they need fixed, fixed. Plus, for $ 8.99 the paneer tikka wasn’t a bad deal. However, if you’re looking for a better Indian food truck, go to Bombay Dhaba on South 1st.

Wins: — The server at the trailer was friendly — Extensive offerings Opportunities: — The tables were dirty. When the server noticed this, he quickly wiped ours down. — The mosquitoes were intense, so I recommend bringing bug spray — The food was ok, but if you’re willing to spend a little more, you can walk ten feet and have a great meal at G’Raj Mahal Would I return? Probably not.

I write this review as I finish off my leftover samosa and lamb curry with naan from last night. It’s partially cold because I couldn’t wait to eat it again and I was too impatient to properly heat it up. I don’t even care — it’s still pretty good. I ordered the combo plate with chicken tikka masala and lamb curry and an order of samosas. I know chicken tikka masala is like, the most Americanized Indian dish you can order, but this one actually has a deep rich color and kick to it(as opposed to some of those milky-looking tikka masalas). The lamb curry was spiced quite nicely also. And the samosas are each about the size of a softball. I’ve also had the saag paneer from here and that’s pretty decent, too. Agreed with a couple of other reviewers that it can be a little pricey but with the flavor and portion sizes(essentially two meals), it’s worth it.

I was extremely happy to find this little gem of an Indian food truck. I had the goat curry, samosas, pechewar naan, and a mango lassi. The goat curry was perfectly spiced, the samosas had a sizable portion of delicious potato filling, the naan was warm and sweet deliciousness with raisins, and the mango lassi tasted fresh with homemade yogurt and fresh mangos. I will definitely recommend this place.

We had the lamb paneer. OMG! It was perfection. Nice, slow heat with delicate flavors and tender, succulent meat. I am not sure how it could have been better. Very flavorful. Total win. We will be back!

Went to the food truck at around 11 pm and they ran out of everything except the paneer tikka Masala. Ordered that with rice, and a mango lassi to drink. The tikka masala paneer was delicious(creamy with chunks of paneer in it) but the mango lassi was disappointing. It was sugary and watery, not thick and creamy like good mango lassi should be. Food was kind of expensive for the price too; my total came out to about $ 14.

Tried an order of Paneer Tikka Masala at their food truck location in the Co-op Food Court near UT, and suffice to say it was disappointing. I got the lunch«vege» special which is supposed to come with a vegetable curry dish, rice, and two pieces of naan. First bit of trouble is that I received incorrect change back — decided to take that in stride ‘my fault for paying in cash, no big deal.‘ Still very much looking forward to the food. I love paneer, and quite frankly, it’s hard to screw up. Well, at least, that’s what I thought. I get my order, and open it to find a meagre amount of paneer, a huge helping of rice, and two tiny pieces of naan. Still optimistic — though already not impressed. The paneer would at best be called watery. In all honesty, I found the flavor to be nonexistent. It was spicy, as I’d requested, but no respectable establishment would call what I received«tikka masala.» Now, I know, «tikka masala» itself is an Anglicised dish, but the menu did not offer an authentic paneer dish, so I hoped this would be a good alternative. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Not only that, but the tiny naan was soft, soggy even, and the plate came with what I assumed was a side salad with some unknown spicy dressing. The salad, however, was also sitting in the rice & soaked with watery«tikka masala,» so the lettuce wilted and was not appetising. The rice was fine, but if that wasn’t, the review would be one-star instead of two. I would say that while edible, this is definitely not a first, second, or third choice for me any time in the future. Were I to be completely honest about it, it was the most disappointing Indian food I have ever had. I’m sure I have a high standard, but you shouldn’t call yourself«masala dhaba» if you don’t know how to use one.

Okay firstly PSA this trailer is now in the Coop food park by the UT campus. I don’t know if there’s still one at Rainey or not, but they just opened one by UT. I had friends who had tried masala dhaba and had great things to say so I was really excited and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed! I tried the Biryani and my friend had the chicken 65 wrap and we both enjoyed our food. Also the lady taking the orders was really the nicest person ever! The food took about 15 minutes but I guess that’s expected. Definitely give them a try!

Food truck on Rainey. I was Skeptical. The wife made me go. Exceeded my expectations. Best vegetable korma I have ever had, and I have had lots. I sat at a picnic table and while eating, I kept looking at the food truck wondering how something so amazing«came from that little truck». Papadam and naan were solid also. This place is worth checking out for sure. Still can’t believe it.

This is my first review on Unilocal.I love, repeat love, Indian food so you can imagine my scepticism about an Indian food truck. My drunkenness plus confidence in Unilocal rating system made me feel reasonably safe to take the plunge. Immediately after unwrapping my garlic naan I knew I had made the right choice. So much so that my girlfriend and her friend ate half my food before I could even start! I will definitely come back next time in Austin.

Indian food might stand as the most desirable cuisine that finds itself in the confines of an eatery on wheels. Though many an inebriated individual might find himself averse to the effects of Indian in the morning after, nothing hits the spot like spicy, doughy, rice-centric dishes. Additionally, Indian is polarizing, thus the food trucks are always a cult favorite. Enter Masala Dhaba. Classics can be found, from Vindaloo to Tikka Masala, but more sought after dishes like Lamb Rogan and Goat curry also present themselves to you, in a smattering of options… My favorite items are the appetizers: fried chicken – done Indian, naan, and pakora. The jalapeño cheese naan certainly errs on the side of creative, unauthentic, and even blasphemous, but it may be difficult for any other item to beat this description on the menu: flour bread, infused with mozzarella cheese and jalapenos. Doesn’t this remind you of the now-defunct cheese bread, as prepared by Rio’s? Alas, whatever ails you on Rainey, MD can step in to offer all sorts of nuanced flavor atop carbohydrates in order to soak up all of those craft beers and handcrafted cocktails.

I was so glad to see that there was an Indian place open late on a Sunday. And even though this is a trailer, they have a pretty large menu. We ordered paneer tikka masala, chicken tikka, chicken 65, samosas, and 2 orders of garlic naan. The food was on point. You would have never guessed that it came from a trailer. The chicken tikka was a bit dry but still tasty. Everything else was great! The prices were beyond reasonable for trailer food(and probably cheaper than a restaurant). You also get $ 3 off as a Unilocaler!

I stopped here when I was hopping around Rainey St. and found myself in need of some samosas. Some people have their drunk tacos; I have drunk samosas. Between three of us, we split some naan, chicken tikka, chicken korma, and samosas with sauce. They warned us when we ordered that it would be 15 – 20 minutes, and they delivered on that promise closer to the 20 side. The korma was a letdown: it was watery instead of creamy and contained about 7 big chicken chunks. Both the tikka and korma had a little bit of spice(tikka more so), so you may want to snag a bottle of water. The samosas(2 to an order) were yummy, but I’m tempted to say the best part was actually the naan. Not a great sign. I can get over the food being so-so, but it just seemed… expensive for what we received, particularly from a food truck. I’m also bummed that they were so strict on the check-in offer($ 3 off $ 20). I checked in JUST after I’d paid for my order of over $ 20, was still in front of the window, and asked if we could get $ 3 off another order of samosas($ 4). No, you need to order $ 20 or more, sorry. What? I just did. Can you add it to that order? No. You’ll have to come back. That’s unlikely to happen.
