Im a mexican food LOVER, I could eat it 3 times a day… My boyfriend, not so much. I finally get him to go with me and we chose this place. Honestly I wish we wouldve just left after the hot salsa came out. I personally do not like HOT temperatured salsa… We decided to order queso and when that came out I was even more disappointed. I loved that it came with cilantro, ground beef and pico to add but the cheese itself was nacho cheese from a damn can. The kind of cheese you would get on your round chip nachos at a baseball game. At this point, I decided I needed a drink. My boyfriend orders 2 margaritas. PISSED. Theyre supposed to be frozen but there is so much strawberry syrup its watery. Cant even taste the alcohol that I needed so much.

Favorite neighborhood spot. This place has everything: menudo, shrimp cocktail, carne guisada on point put out da fire with one of their frozen margaritas. Enjoy a plethora of dulces(Mexican candy) for dessert. Also this place is open late/24 hr on some days my drunk ass crawling in there from time to time it never fails me. Also: S A L S A B A R

Tacos are ok at best and got charged way to much for what their worth! I’ve had better in the area, compare for what they offer, as far was quality and taste.

The taco platter was pretty tasty and the chips were good. Wasn’t a fan of the salsa but give it a try in not a good judge of salsa. The environment is kind of a cluttered dive environment and seems relaxed until every so often loud music blares and suddenly it’s hard to hear. Waitress was patient and friendly. Environment was ok. Food was decently priced.

I’m here and it’s 12:57am and you’re closed but your OPEN sign is on and it says you close at 2am on your sign. Then you have 10 people knocking on the door and you ignore them and when you finally have the decency to acknowledge that we’re standing at the door, you come up and say sorry we’re short staffed. BUTYOUHAVEOTHERCUSTOMERSSITTINGATTABLESEATING! If you choose to do business with this establishment– CALLFIRST! Don’t assume the stick to their advertised business hours.

While this place gave my boyfriend an upset tummy, the rest of us were fine. I came here with my boyfriend and a friend after we were quoted an additional 45 minute wait at Veracuz. The place was pretty crowded for a Saturday lunch(¾ full). It seems like they were short staffed as a lot of the tables were not cleaned off. It took awhile to get the server’s attention, but when we did, she came bearing chips and salsa! The chips were average, but the green salsa was pretty delicious with a little kick to it. We all devoured the green salsa while waiting for our food which took awhile… When we asked for water, our friend’s cup had a chunk of dust in it. When he brought it to our waitress’s attention, she apologized and promised to bring back a clean cup of water. That new cup of water was not brought to our table until we reminded her 10 minutes later. The food portions here were huge! It was definitely enough to feed me for 3 meals, but unfortunately it wasn’t too appetizing for me. I ordered the migas, and what I got didn’t look very migas-y. The potatoes that accompanied the migas were also cold on the inside… My boyfriend got a breakfast burrito and it was a-okay. Nothing special… I probably wouldn’t return here again. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either.

Not overly impressed by the food here. It’s difficult for them to be across the street from Veracruz All natural and down the street from Las Trancas. The only thing I was happy with was the service I received.

Its really nice here, It reminds me of a few restaurants from home(Rockdale, TX). The breakfast tacos were great and they have a lot of art all over the walls. Big windows too so you get a view while chowing down.

Las Cazuelas is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Austin. They have huge portions, a fantastic salsa bar, great margaritas and nice staff. They are also open super late which is nice for those late night diners. To comment on another recent review, no, not everyone who dines out late is intoxicated(I actually found this kind of offensive) and I’ve never felt the least bit bad the day after eating Las Cazuelas. They use quality fresh ingredients, and serve legitimate Mexican food, not your average Austin yuppie Mexican style food. I’ve had the breakfast tacos(such a great deal!) flautas laredo and tampico, several of the enchiladas plates, tacos al pastor, tamales, and nachos and everything I’ve tried has been fantastic! I highly recommend them.

My daughter was in the mood for enchilada and I was in the mood for any Tex-Mex for our dinner. I Unilocaled and the reviews interested us, so we decided to give it a go. First, the parking situation was bad, a small private lot shared by two other business. Luckily we found a spot since it was early evening. My daughter ordered Chicken Ranchero enchilada plate and I ordered the Al Pastor Flameado taco plate. Both came with refried beans and rice. Complimentary chips with red and green salsa started our meal. Both salsas were freshly made and tasted really good. The red had a kick and the green was silky smooth, love them. However the chips tasted like store brought, but it was free and the waiter kept refilling our basket so we were good with it. On to the main event. My daughter did not like the enchilada. She said the white meat was too dry and bland. But she said the sauce was homemade and tasted really good. I took a bite and I agreed 100% with her. My pastor taco on the other hand tasted excellent. The little cubes of pork was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My daughter tasted it and liked so much she took one of my taco. The beans and rice were ok, nothing special. We had better, both needed more seasoning. The service was very attentive and the total cost with a diet coke was about $ 24, We rated down the middle with 3 stars. We don’t know if this eatery is worth trying again because Austin has so many other Tex-Mex restaurants in this price range that we need to explore. Ok, may be one more shot.

I just called to verify that this restaurant is actually open late-late. yep they’re open — it’s 0300! this is my preliminary opinion, as I’ve never eaten here(but we’re on the way). 5 stars is for being open 24⁄7.

This place is a great low key spot for tex-mex, heavy on the mex food. Its comfort food really. Salsas are good, I really like the buffet of add-on toppings and more salsa flavors. I recommend the lunch special, «chicken flautas»

I like that this place is cheap and fast but the service and hospitality here suck really bad. In fact, I think they’re borderline just plain rude. I ordered a to go order and while I was waiting, sitting at one of their many open tables, a family walked in, and the waitress came right over and started putting menus down at the table I was sitting at! I would have gladly moved if they had asked me. The food is already mediocre at best. You all could probably work on your people skills.

Disappointing. Margarita tasted like a sugary, Jose Cuervo premixed cocktail; queso was goopy and tasted like terrible fake cheese(faker than Velveeta) and the enchiladas were dry and so-so. Do not recommend it.

Went here for breakfast tacos per a friend. Overall, not bad selection of breakfast tacos. Reasonable priced. Taste good for on the go in the morning. Worth a shot if in the area.

We came here has a last resort and just stopped in to get our bearings. There were not many other restaurants on the street. it was a divey gem in a way so we decided to give it a try. The taco platter was fresh and delicious and the price was right. I really liked the salsa bar. Be aware that the salsa was super spicy that I had to down half my ice water before being able to taste my food. The downside is the place isn’t too easy on the eyes.

GENEROUS portions. Cheap. And the food has always been good. Although, I’ve never been here sober, so I’m not sure how the food tastes without alcohol as an appetizer. If you’ve had a late night of drinking and you’re looking for the perfect hangover prevention meal, you won’t find a better place.

I started with the queso and its was more like chunky ballpark cheese that tasted very expired. The meat was okay but once I put it in the cheese it ruined the entire meal. After pushing aside the appetizer I decided to give the entrée a try which was cheese and spinach enchiladas… to my disappointment the enchiladas were worse then the expired cheese I forced down my throat earlier. It was sad to give the restaurant a bad review after seeing good reviews about it, but I realized that everyone that had left a review or verbally said the restaurant was good were experiences they had at night. Which means they were so plastered they couldn’t taste the awful food they were putting in there bodies… I know they felt it the next day.

The good-Beans are nice thick. Meats are great. Tortillas are good. Salsas and salsa bar are wonderful. Has wireless internet. Really cheep. The bad– service, bathrooms, and this place may not up to par on its health codes. The chips could be better.

I’m surprised by all of the good reviews for this place! The service was slow and they didn’t seem to know the menu very well. The food was mediocre and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up with food poisoning. It was also way overpriced for what it was.

I was trying to venture out of my normal lunch choice for Mexican food on the East side and this place popped up in my Unilocal search! I was really excited because the interior pictures looked like it would be a truly authentic Mexican restaurant. The parking lot is a bit sketchy and there is trash every where. They have a few tables out on the front«patio» area but, there aren’t any fans so, I wouldn’t anticipate using it! Like everyone has mentioned they have a salsa bar which is worth checking out and mixing and matching your salsas! The chips and salsa came with 2 different salsas, a side of beans and spicy avocado dip. I could have made a meal out of just this! All the salsas, dip and the beans were top notch! The chips could have been a bit fresher. Chorizo queso: This wasn’t traditional creamy type queso! It was melted shredded cheese with chorizo in the middle and served with flour tortillas! It was amazing and even though it isn’t what you would expect a traditional queso to be, I would tell you to order it! I also ordered the taco plate with 3 shrimp tacos, bean, rice and the normal mexican«salad» fixins! The ingredients in the tacos were freshly cut but, the shrimp had a metallic taste and was very fishy. I took a couple bites and put them aside. The refried beans topped with cheese were just ok and I wonder if they were house made. The rice was also just ok and was a bit on the dry side. The sour cream and guacamole that were served with it were fresh and the guacamole was well made! You pay at the register and if you are me, you decided this is a place for queso, chips and salsa and some drinks!

I have only ever been to Las Conzuelas after the bar. That is one of the stand out things about them for me too — they are open late! But really there are not many late night Mexican food joints like this … maybe the only one in Austin. It is winning in my book! Ordering the charizo queso is a must! This could almost be a meal all on it’s own honestly. It’s this queso fundido like cheese, which is melted and fried with charizo mixed in. They serve it with tortillas and chips. Its is so stringy and delicious! Since my discovery of this type of thing I always order it anywhere I can and Las Conzsuelas is the BEST! I usually order a combination plate or some sort of enchilada dinner for my main course. They are all great. I really like the verde enchiladas here. Las Conzuelas is more authentic than your traditional neighborhood tex mex joint. The place definitely has some flair to it. I love the margaritas and micheladas. Order a drink and put some money in the juke box and really get into the atmosphere by playing some Selena or something. At least that is what we did last time! I am definitely a fan and if you are looking for late night Mexican food then this is the spot!

Standard Mexican food. Giant portions. Great for late night. Good salsa. The first time I went there was at 2AM, when I got off of work. During the weekends, they’re open 24 hours. They had a full menu, and unlike most 24 hour food places, it wasn’t filled with drunk people. Mostly pedicabbers. They have an outdoor patio, but I’ve always eaten inside. It looks a little divey at night, not brightly lit. Last time, I got their Burrito Caliente. It had beef steak and it came with a tomatillo sauce, plus the standard rice and beans sides. I would’ve liked it a little spicier, but it’s not bland. After I put some of their green salsa on my burrito, it hit the spot. The portion were huge, and I took a lot home. Their tortas weren’t my favorite, but they pretty high up there. I don’t know if mariachis are a Sunday afternoon standard at the restaurant, but it was a nice surprise. It’s good food for a good price.

At Kelly’s suggestion, my fiancé and I stopped by to grab some tacos before heading over to the Elite event at Stay Gold. After waiting at a table for a little too long, I elected to head inside and order to go. We got a bacon & egg breakfast taco, a chirozo & egg breakfast taco, and a taco al pastor. They were delivered quickly and were DELICIOUS. Granted, many people have reviewed Las Cazuelas negatively for other things, but I can vouch for the tacos. Get them. Please. Another thing to note is that the menu inside says breakfast tacos end at 11AM. I got confirmation that they are, in fact, available ALLDAY. I may head back this weekend for more.

As the saying goes, «Barreguita llena, corazon contento.» Unfortunately, the recent condition of the grab-n-go taco bar at las cazuelas has broken my heart and left me hungry. For years, I have lived around the corner.(See my previous review.) Since I leave for work very early in the morning, their 24 hour status and breakfast tacos are a convenience. It’s been my last-minute breakfast place since I bought my house. I’ve always gotten my two standbys: an egg-and-something, and a bean and cheese taco, without incident. This past summer, a late-night visit with friends alerted me to declining quality. The service was always pretty dicy, but they have become preoccupied with their newly-acquired liquor license, and let common sense go. The margarita brought to our table was an unmistakable electric blue, garnished with a lemon slice.(!!!) The only possible explanation for the garish color that I could think of was that it was provided by a generous dash of Fabuloso. Nonetheless, I kept stopping by for tacos. Until! On my last early morning visit, I reached for a bean and cheese taco and the vat was empty. I asked the woman behind the counter about it and she explained, «We’re out of beans.» «Out of beans?» «Yes. We won’t have any beans until tomorrow.» This was 6:30 am, folks. What kind of a Mexican restaurant — in Texas — runs out of beans and can’t get any more for almost 24 hours?! One that you shouldn’t be patronizing.

Tex-Mex money!!! A place where fun meets food. Micheladas are super-sized, even tacos are super-sized! Ambience is colorful and so are the staff. Laughing and joking were commonplace and made us feel right at home. Delicious food made me homesick for California Mexican food; but it was delicious on a whole different level. This place helped me understand what real Tex-Mex is truly about!

I am on a mission to consume all the Tex-Mex in Austin. Finally got around to Las Cazuelas while lusting for some nom’s in my East Side ‘hood. This place is super divey but in the best way possible. Overly decorated, basic plastic chairs and tables, a big church-style bell in the back being used for the«order up» alert. Our waitress was very friendly and helped my picky friend figure out a good option, and also did not scoff at my ridiculous list of dietary requirements. Great salsa! Do not take your spicey-intolerant friends here. The food is decent-to-good and very no frills, but good quality and ample portions. Prices are cheap! Overall, great spot to satisfy that last-minute enchilada craving.

The Google machine told me this was the closest still open eatery within stumbling distance and it was right on all accounts. It probably wasn’t my best decision of the night and I’m not gonna lie I wish I could take it back this morning. It’s not all bad news though, this is the cheapest colon cleanse I’ve ever done and I think it worked the best! Do: Enjoy the free chips and salsa bar Don’t: Order the chicken burrito, tastes like rubber Do: Buy some baby wipes for the next morning Don’t: Touch your eyes after touching salsa

Now this is Mexican Food the way I like it… its greasy, flavorful, and ample. I can eat 2 lbs of BBQ, but rarely finish an enchilada plate(2.5 lbs?). When I eat real mexican food, I want to feel like I genuinely need to sleep… not a little cat nap, but full on passing out. And its good. Sure, there are nicer places with fancy Mexican food like Benjis to name one of the few good fancy Mexican food places around downtown. Then there are the tex mex joints, good ones like Matts El Rancho and the understated Chuys. But in both cases, they never really hit the spot… I mean they are fantastic, but they are true Tex Mex. But when I need real Mexican food, Cazuelas is the spot… its like comparing a giant greasy burger to steak tartar. And some days, I choose the greasy burger because sometimes my food(and booze) needs a kick with a pair of steel toe boots. If your looking for a nice atmosphere, or high end, light Mexican food, there are tons of other places… but if you are all about the food, and have some extra time to pass out after(and some much required Tums), give them a shot.

It pains me a little to give Las Cazuelas only three stars, because a lot of their stuff is really good. The all-you-can-eat chips and free salsa bar are fantastic(many salsas, some with real heat and flavor), I love the various seafood tacos, and the chicken and tortilla soup is wonderful. Also: open 24 hours most days, so perfect stumble from Downtown or East 6th bars. And, as with most family-style Mexican, it’s cheap and super filling. But the service can be shitty – really shitty, in fact. On our last visit(about 12:30 on a Saturday), we waited about 30 – 40 minutes for our food and had to make a special request to get napkins and forks. It was also like 55 degrees in the place, because it didn’t occur to anyone that you can turn off the ceiling fans and AC when it’s 61 outside. I still enjoyed the food, but – c’mon. Also, our soup came with the entrees instead of before, and the entrees themselves arrived ten minutes apart. Bad timing all around. As a bonus, many of the tables rock so badly that you have to prop them against the wall or place napkins under a leg to ensure that your food or drinks aren’t catapulted into the air. I’ll be back, as it’s conveniently located, the food is good, and I still want to try the breakfast tacos, but certainly not at peak times: it just doesn’t look like the kitchen and the servers can keep up when the place is full. We’ll try again for 3:30PM Austin slacker lunch.
