I don’t know what to do now that it has closed down. I went for brunch in December or January and they were gone. So sad… Rest in Peace

There are a number of places here in Austin that I would not review simply because I do not want to see you there. I will make an exception for La Fuentes Mexican Restaurant because they deserve a 5 star rating and also because they soon, will be closed. I consider this«my place» and I will not even share it with family. The menu is simple, the chips and hot sauce are top notch and the cheese(with onions) enchiladas with the rice and beans my meal of choice. Those refried beans are so good! The fact that I have been coming here since 1979 should be all you need to hear from me!

I plan on going to La Fuentes often in the next couple of weeks. I just heard last week that it has been sold and will be closing for good. The exact date isn’t firm but December 15 or earlier is possible. La Fuentes will be missed! Adiós.

Hidden Tex-Mex restaurant off of Circle S in a little house on the right. Solid Tex-Mex. It is what you want and expect if that is what you are looking for, Really liked their chips and salsa. Staff was really attentive. Nothing super memorable but I would come back again.

The prices, portions, and food are great! Lots of regulars here and for a reason! The margaritas aren’t weak like at most places.

Checked this place out tonight and based on service and food, they’re both 5 stars! My hubby ordered the chili relleno, while I listened to fellow Unilocaler’s and ordered the carne asada. The entrees were both delish! As for the chips and salsa, we ended up getting sec’s. Our waiter was awesome. He refilled our salsa and chips when he noticed we ate all the salsa, without us having to ask for secs! For those who are super critical, the parking isn’t shoe or tire friendly! The dips in the dirt ground got our car tires all gross and muddy due it it raining earlier in the day, so not a great place if you’re in cute high heels on a rainy day, or perhaps your date can carry you to the door! :0) Will definitely be back later if we’re in the area and feeling for mexican food again!

It makes me so sad to write this review. For years, La Fuente’s was our go-to Mexican restaurant. My husband has been eating there since he had to sit on a phone book to reach the table(he’s now 48)! It’s where we always took out-of-towners who wanted REAL Tex Mex in Austin. The food was consistently outstanding & the service always fast & friendly. That was then. I believe there are new owners who changed the menu & recipes. The food has been going downhill for some time now. And while the service has remained pretty good(many of the dedicated servers have been there for years), they aren’t as happy as they once were, even whispering apologies about the changes to the recipes & food quality. Despite the downhill slide, we recently went in for lunch to give it one last shot. The food was simply terrible. Beef enchiladas were bland, beans were bland, & the tortilla soup was inedible, as was the carne guisada — their signature dish. The chips & salsa remain the only saving grace in this place. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to keep us coming back. With so many phenomenal Mexican joints to choose from in town, La Fuente’s is going to have to really up their game if they expect to stay afloat.

Only been in here for their Sunday brunch but we really liked it, especially all you can eat for $ 8.99. They have a decent selection of Mexican food and breakfast items. All of it was pretty tasty. The salsa here is spicy and delicious. Service was also top notch. Only gripe is they kept running out of food at the buffet table during their brunch. For awhile all they had was ground beef, tortillas and lettuce. They need to do a better job of replenishing the empty platters faster. Overall though not a bad brunch spot, especially for the price.

Once upon a time, I ate here for lunch regularly. It was cheap, fast, dimly lit, great chips and decent salsa, and there was never a wait at lunch. It had all the basic ingredients for being a perfect hangover treatment. It’s definitely greasy Tex-Mex, so I’m not judging this against fine cuisine. I hadn’t been back in a year or more, and today I was reminded why. As soon as the room-temperature plate of enchiladas, rice and beans hit the table, I was transported back to my last trip here. Despite being warned of a hot plate, I had serious questions about whether it was even safe to eat. I don’t know if it’s just the fact that there never seem to be more than 2 wait staff and perhaps a hostess on duty during weekday lunch, but the entrée had clearly sat out for a few. I won’t be going back.

ROACHESROACHESROACHES! Should be named La Cucaracha! My girlfriend and I went in for a late dinner despite the unsettling outside appearance. We ordered as there were 3 other tables still inside eating, as it was approaching closing time we deemed this aa a good sign. People kept pointing at the ceiling, but we didn’t know at what. After ordering, a table of about 9 people finally said a foodies worst words. «There are roaches here! This place needs a health inspector! «As they finished up and went to pay, I asked if they were serious and one man replied that«there are all kinds of roaches here!» His wife said she«would never eat there again and if they had noticed beforehand that they would have turned away.» At this point I canceled my order and went to Trudy’s. Let me tell you, this is the best hidden delight we’ve found in a very long time! The best thing is that its stashed ever so well behind a Mexican chain restaurant, so it keeps out all the riff-raff! Pure local ATX spot with some of the best meat Ive ever tasted! The smoked beans are like no other and the relaxing patio atmosphere is pure bliss. If you don’t try the Carne Asada and the fried Cheesecake, you have to come back again. Wonderful service, and an all around fantastic foody experience.

I ordered my usual of enchiladas w/chile con carne and a beef taco on the side. It was good but also fulfilling. I had to take the rest home. I didn’t care for their salsa. Tasted too tomatoey. One thing is a must when I go to Mexican restaurants they must have good salsa. Can’t say this place did but the food made up for it. The waiter was extremely nice and helpful. Will be back.

Food is not good. Wont be going back. Would not recommend it to anyone. Btw the restaurant owner sent me message apologizing for the food and service. He offered me and a guest a free meal to try it out again. I agreed to it but that was a week ago. Never heard from him again. Goes to show how much they care about their customers.

So I was all alone on a shopping spree today and I looked at the clock and realized happy hour had begun! I was at southpark meadows and did a Unilocal search for good food. I stumbled upon la Fuentes. It had lots of stars and a great happy hour so I headed that direction. I was first greeted by Matt who is a young guy, new to the restaurant, and very friendly! I asked him about the happy hour and he got a little nervous because he’s not super familiar with the menu yet. Chrissy assured him that she was fully prepared to fill my happy hour desires! I had 2 frozen margaritas and some of the best chalupas I’ve ever had! All highly recommended by my server Chrissy! Matt kept me company and I enjoyed every moment! Thank you Chrissy! You definitely know what you’re doing! Thank you Matt for the entertainment! Your mom was also a pleasure! This visit was an experience! If you want great food and superb service go here!!! I’m Soooo Ready for my next visit!

Sssssshhhhhh! Don’t tell anyone but this place is awesome! I had been meaning to come here for a couple years and it just never happened… until about a month ago. FINALLY! The yard out back is perfect. I love it! I can’t wait to see some bands! I presume irresponsible pet owners have been the reason no dogs are allowed — so poo on you bad dog owners! The servers are all really great and friendly and so helpful :) Great experience with the staff. Brunch is amazing! So is all the other food! Except the Bloody Mary and Micheladas. Soooo bland. They don’t have horseradish or worchestshire sauce. I had to use a TON of pepper for flavor. I’ve considered bringing my own mix next time, otherwise, just stick with Margaritas. ***TIP**The BEST beans ever. Be sure if you go for Brunch, best brunch in town for the money $ 8.99 or something, cover your plate with a layer of beans and then dish up the migas, the meats, the enchiladas and the tamales… the beans make it all so amazing. Real smokey, not like very smokey but like it’s a real smoker taste not a liquid smoke in a bottle flavor. I’ve also gone back twice since I first came for brunch. Once for brunch with a friend and then I was sick so I had to try the Chicken Tortilla soup To Go — AMAZING and so much Chicken! Broth was spiced up for me since I told them I was sick and then they gave me some great salsa, limes and avocado slices. Fabulous! They lose a whole star because of the bad Bloody Mary and since I can’t bring my awesome best friend, Franks the wiener mutt.

Great little hole in the wall. Cheap lunch specials. The salsa is good! Cheap drinks. Friendly staff. The atmosphere could use a little pick-me-up. Simple old school Tex-Mex.

I can’t come to Austin without eating Mexican at least 7 times. There is a tex-mex restaurant around every corner in South Austin. Literally. This little hole in the wall is 2 minutes from D’s house hidden on a neighborhood street. They have happy hour M-Sat so we got great drink prices even though it was the weekend. Score! The food is cheap and typical. Nothing overtly special about my plate or hers. I’d come here again for the prices. It’s truly a steal. If you’re looking for high quality, over the top, make your head spin Mexican food then try this another night.

Ahhh-haa! Round 2 was just like I expected it to be… a Cha Cha Cha moment! Thats Right, a dance with DELICIOUSNESS! My son and I came to check out the dinner menu just the other day; and low & behold the food was Spot On this time! Everything we ordered was a Home Run… this what we got — Chips & Hot sauce: Oh Lawd! They got some Damn Great Hot Sauce here!(I wonder if they sell it to-go??) Chile con Queso: Holy Melted Cheese Gods! We started off with a small Queso, my son who is normally Very Picky about his queso said, «That’s damn good Queso!» Based on that alone and the fact that I helped get every last drop out of the bowl… Ordering a bowl of Queso is Definitely Must-Do to start with! We ordered the small one, next time we’re definitely ordering the Big One! Bean & Cheese Nachos: Just enough beans and just enough cheese! The trick about making perfect nachos is having just the right balance of toppings to not make the chips soggy and messy. Some people might like them messy… but Nachos are finger food, they don’t require utensils! Carne Asada: Grilled and smothered in sliced onions, bell peppers, & Cheese! Lots of cheese! The pieces of meat were larger than I’m used to, but thats okay I’m pretty accustomed to using a knife & fork so I didn’t mind. Overall it was a great dish, Very Large dish… don’t get me wrong I’m a big dude, but even I had a lil trouble finishing it all. It also came with rice & beans, both were tasty Service: Great as always. Very Friendly, prompt to check our table and refill drinks. I keep hearing that they have a Good Happy Hour and a really good Sunday brunch, I’ve yet to check out either of the two but I’ll have put that on my Must-Do List!
