For the first time in my life, I needed a lawyer (after somebody scammed me, I wasn’t able to get the money back on my own, and it was enough money that it worth going after versus just blowing it off). Scott and his small firm were recommended to me, and he’s done a good job.
They did the research, tracked down the guys who were at fault (they had disappeared and I hadn’t been able to find them), filed the lawsuit /​paperwork, and negotiated a settlement. Along the way, he gave good advice about the whole thing, which I really needed since I haven’t had to deal with anything like this before.
He’s a practical and sensible lawyer, which IME not all of them are — so if you want an attack dog, or a lawyer who’ll do something unreasonable just because you throw money at them — he’s not the right guy.
Plus the fees are affordable — I’m a person not a corporation, so I can’t afford the fees of some of the big expensive law firms. Lawyers aren’t cheap but there’s a range, and his firm gives good value for the money.
Bottom line is that he was able to get back money that I was convinced was probably lost forever. And, it’s a bonus that a bad actor (the guy had scammed more people than just me) got called to account and has another black mark added to his public record (there were other lawsuits filed against him), which makes it harder for him to get away with scamming in the future.
