I chose to shoot with Julian because the images he posts are beautiful. However, my final images did not have the same quality. When I shot with him he didn’t seem to care about me as a client. I felt like he wasn’t excited or interested. First off, it was hot as heck in his house, and I was starting to sweat. No one wants to start sweating right before a photo shoot, especially when they just spent a ton of money getting hair and make-up done. I let him know, and he did nothing to change my comfort level. I would like to add that I was paying quite a bit of money for this shoot. Secondly, when I got to Julian’s house, he wanted to do my first look outside. It was raining!!! I told him I didn’t want to do that because it would mess up my hair and make-up, but he said it was just lightly raining. After doing a couple shots, he said it was raining too hard, and we needed to move inside. Now that my hair was screwed up, we started my shoot.:(He didn’t match the backdrops well to what I wore so I blended right in with the backdrop. Julian chooses models who are tatted up, edgy and often wear lingerie or go topless. I am not any of those things. I felt like he didn’t care about my images because it wasn’t going to be his usual style. Even though I love many of his images, I wouldn’t shoot with him again.

This was just $ 75 out of my pocket, but hopefully my Unilocal review will help others to know what to expect before shooting with Julian. 2 stars for«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» First, I’ll start with the thing that really bothered me. Julian failed to communicate a very important thing before our shoot — that I’d only get web-sized images(based on a «$ 75 for 30 minutes» special he gave me). That meant that I could not print any shots for my portfolio. Had I known that these photos would only be for«social media use», I would not have shot with him. Like, not all of us are«Instagram models», ya know? Upon receiving my(very small) images, I gently pointed out that he failed to let me know beforehand, and he did not even respond to my email. The one thing we did discuss before the shoot were the images that I really liked in his portfolio — all soft, vintage-style portraits. In particular, I pointed out a photo of a girl sitting on a staircase. The photo was a soft, wide-shot of her on the staircase. Julian told me we’d shoot an image just like that. Yay! Right? Nah. The final images were overly saturated and sharpened, and all of the photos on the staircase were total closeups of my face! Nothing like the photos and themes we discussed. On top of that, the image gallery he sent me(his 28 «top picks» out of the 100s of images we shot) contained many photos with me in the middle of a blink, or photos where my eyes were not even in focus if you zoomed up to them. So yeah. Overall, meh. I’ve experienced better. I didn’t feel cared for as a client on many levels. He didn’t attempt to get to know me, my needs, or even ask what I was needing the photos for. And, worse, he was not interested in making up for his mistakes when called out. It felt like he was trying to make a quick buck before his move out of Austin. Out of the four final images, at least I REALLY liked one! With better communication and follow up, this would have probably been a 5-star review. But the lack of it left a bad taste in my mouth. Learning experience though!
