Note: I wrote this review back when this trailer was available. It has since closed as has the entire NATY, I believe. There is still a brick-and-mortar location in Round Rock. Great place. Parallels Rudy’s BBQ. Somehow the sauce here is better, and we all know that«Rudy’s saus is the boss!» They have a mild and a spicy bbq sauce, and I am particular to the spicy version. Also, the selection of sides, their quality, and their portions are one of the best I’ve in seen in town for a BBQ restaurant. Pretty expensive for a food truck in Austin, although the portion size makes up for this. I’m a pretty big guy and I had to take some for leftovers. The staff member(I believe he must have been some kind of co-owner) at the time said that his boss believed in speedy service, while he believed that the customer would care more about larger portions than getting their food faster. I would have to agree with him to some extent. The food trucks in this area never had huge lines so waiting was not an issue anyway. Make sure to get here early as he often runs out of meats, with the turkey(my favorite) being particularly popular.

$ 10 pulled pork sandwich. Pathetic portions. The meat was eclipsed by the small hamburger bun. Now I understand that this is event food at the COTA track, but the traveling carnival vendors are better. The pulled pork failed to even taste good. I let the counter girl know, that I was not impressed and all she said was OK. Stay away from this food cart.

This is the only surviving trailer other than Snarky’s of the original set of Trailers. I am glad they are around, as often these days they are the only trailer that bothers to open at all during dinner time hours. The turkey is tender, the brisket is smokey, and the beans are nice and meaty. It is nice to have good reliable bbq in this area. I like the trailer so much I may even drive out to the dreaded city of Round Rock to visit the mothership. Thanks for toughing out rougher and less busy days, such as inclimate weather and giving people who stop by the Naty a consistently delicious option.

This is my new favorite barbecue in Austin. I love love love Salt Lick, and Rudy’s makes a damn good sausage, but Johnny T’s takes the cake. The pork ribs are absolutely the best ribs I’ve ever eaten. The meat literally falls off the bone when you pick one up. Like, you grab the bone, and all of the sudden you’re only holding the bone because all the meat has fallen off into your tray. It is delicious. The sauce is sweet and simple and goes perfectly with the meat. The sausage and pork ribs are my favorite meats, but the pulled pork is good too. Haven’t tried the brisket. I feel like a lot of bbq places in Austin have fairly lackluster sides compared to the quality of the meat, but Johnny T’s potato salad is outrageous. It has a lot of mustard, and you can see tons of mustard seeds in there. I’m also a big fan of the green beans with peppers and onions. It’s nice to feel like you’re eating something mildly healthy while you’re stuffing your face full of meat. It helps that the guy in the trailer is also super friendly. Good meat, good sides, great prices. You can’t go wrong with anything you get here.

One of the best BBQ Brisket’s I’ve had. great smoke and flavor. Better than Rudys, and from my perspective, as good as Salt Lick(which has great pork). They also had a tamale casserole, which was pork tamale’s mixed with mashed potatoes and topped with cheese and sourcream, really earthy and good. Sweet Potato Fries were crisp and properly seasoned. The beans were awesome, not heavy or overly sweet, really good balance of flavors.

Was leavig Discount Electronics and spotted this trailer with a BBQ sign. I’m a sucker for both so I ventured over. This is a distribution location for Johnny T’s out of Round Rock, a place I’ve been to many times and enjoy. I got brisket and turkey and they were both great. What surprised me was they didn’t have a smoker here they were selling what the main store dropped off and it was better than I would have expected for not having a smoker on prem. Sauteed green beans were great as was creamed corn. Can’t go wrong with this trailer. Side note, the workers at the trailers nearby looked a little creepy like they were on work release or something.

Good BBQ, Good Prices, Good Service. Now I am a Texan born and raised so my preferred BBQ is brisket, ribs, and sausage(in that order), but the pulled pork here is absolutely delicious. I ordered one of the toaster sandwiches with Pulled Pork and Cole Slaw called the Memphis Chop Sandwich, This thing is awesome and packed with flavor. I haven’t had it yet but the next time I go I will have the Pig Pen which is the pulled pork topped with Elgin sausage. The pulled pork is tender and just falls apart, goes well with either the hot BBQ sauce or the Carolina mustard. I know Carolina mustard sounds weird but give it a shot. Second, the Cole slaw, it was thick and flavorful. This is not that string cabbage with a watery mess around it, this is real deal homemade Cole slaw throw a dash of pepper on it and go to town. I had intended to try some of the sides but I was full from the sandwich alone. The potato salad and the tamale casserole looked awesome and will be a part of a future visit. Hit them up for lunch or an early dinner, you will not be disappointed with the food or the service.

Johnny T’s Round Rock is probably my favorite no-hassle BBQ, so having an easy trailer is a win. Everything is fresh, and in ample portions. One of my trailer food peeves is when you pay $ 7 for something that’s about 3 bites. Not at Johnny T’s — order a plate of BBQ with sides and you’ll be happy for hours. They only get four stars because the ambiance of the NATY could be improved. I like the play area, but they were playing crap radio super loud and didn’t have enough shaded seating options. Lots of barstool height electrical spool tables. Hungry but still lazy on the weekend? Get your food to go. This is some excellent BBQ.

I was very excited to hear they were putting a trailer at the NATY, because I love their restaurant in Round Rock! Their great BBQ and service– the guys in RR are always friendly and funny, continues with their trailer. I had their chopped beef sandwich and it was wonderful! I will try their Super Spud next time– I saw one while I was there and it looked fabulous. I know that BBQ is everywhere around here, but Johnny T’s is some of the best I’ve found– that’s coming from a born and raised Texan.

Not many places get my approval for phenomenal side dishes but this place has me hooked on the sweet potato fries, I’ve yet to find a place that’s anywhere near Johnny T’s BBQ Trailer! but aside from the side dishes the pulled pork and brisket is mind blowing, taste buds dancing in your mouth hip hip ray goodness! All in all I’m glad i found this place!

Went there for the first time. Gentleman was very nice and up beat. I got the Pig Pen and sweet potatoe fries. Sweet potatoe fries were the frozen kind. but still good never the less. I do wish they were fresh cut. The Pig Pen was huge! Pulled pork was really moist, little pink and little crust. The problem with this meat is it is not seasoned at all. It could be so awesome, if they would add spices. I would recommend the spicy BBQ sauce to add spice to the meat. Once you add this, it would definetly be a 4 rating. Same with the sausage. It was cooked very well, but again. no seasoning. Therefore it was bland. This is the only reason I rated it a 3. BBQ should be able to stand along with nothing on it. I am excited to taste the other things on the menu and will be going back. Peak times are 11:30– 2:00pm.

Johnny T’s presents itself exactly as you would imagine: smoked animal parts, brought into a mobile eatery(food truck), from a smoker, sliced on the cart, and dished out to you. It sort of breaks the norm of going out into some obscure town in Texas to order up some cattle that you point out, which is then sliced. Aside from that, I think Johnny T’s cranks out some fine Texas ‘cue. Alongside the plentiful selection of various farm organisms, you have plenty of fixin’s to choose from – more than necessary, I might add. My mainstay order is typically a quarter pound of moist brisket, with some extra burnt ends, adorned with 2 pork ribs, hopefully cut from the second to last bone – this last request is typically overkill… Anyway, I only went with the beef here, so I will have to return in due time to accurately judge the remainder of this trailer. The brisket had spot-on smoke ring, certainly deeper than most; I would say it spanned into the meat nearly ¾ inch. A bit on the flavor, though. The crusting lacked a heavy bark, and it could have used a smidgen more dusting. I found it to be too«mouth dry” – you know that lack of flavor that sometimes causes you to want more juiciness in the meat? Yeah. I don’t know how to describe it, but it happens when I eat underseasoned brisket. Alas, Johnny T’s is certainly spitting out some quality meat; I am just too much of a stupid snob and slob. I hope that I will be back someday.

I haven’t been to the NATY in a bit. When I got there I noticed two new additions to the yard. The veggie burger truck that was formerly Michi, and this BBQ truck. Since I am a big time carnivore, I opted for the meaty BBQ option. I had the Pulled Pork, the Moist Brisket, some Creamed Corn and the Tamale Potato Casserole. I’ll just give a short breakdown on each. Tamale Potato Casserole: Solid. It’s like mashed potatoes mixed with a cheese tamale. I’d order it again. Creamed Corn: Sort of a weak replica of the Rudy’s creamed corn. If the cream was thicker, this shit would be money. As it stands, it’s just alright. Brisket: Moist, but not flavorful. It’s not smokey at all, there was no bark on it, and it was just kinda bland. The sauces helped a bit, but the brisket was disappointing. Pulled Pork: Delicious. This was the highlight for sure. Tender, flavorful and a decent sized portion. I would undoubtedly order this again. I want to go back and try more here, but I am not in a big hurry to do so. I am sure this BBQ hits the spot for a lot of people, unfortunately I just found it to be A-OK.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Johnny T’s main location in Round Rock makes my favorite barbecue EVER. So I was stoked to discover that they had opened a trailer in the NATY lot on Anderson Lane. My favorite barbecue is suddenly in walking distance — how cool is that? The smaller location does not detract from the quality of the food. It’s still the same great meats and the same great sides. And what I like about the trailer is that when it’s not crowded, it gives you a better chance to interact with the staff. Johnny T’s is an establishment made up of good people, and it’s nice to be able to have a conversation with them. Johnny T’s is excellent, whether in a store or in a trailer. This is the place I take people from out of town when they want real Texas barbecue. I’m so glad I was introduced to this place, and thrilled that it’s so close!

OMG WTHeck SMH — I got the 2 meat plate with Sausage and Pulled Pork with Tamale Potato Casserole and Seasoned Fries — the meat was well seasoned and very moist and juicy. The pulled pork was the best that I ever had. You need to try this place at least once — the owner of the trailer was serving up the AWESOMEBBQ. He is very friendly, outgoing and quiet handsome :-)

OMGWTFBBQ! I woke up this fine Monday morning to a string of work emails lamenting the fact that the a/c at the office had given up the ghost over the weekend and the temperature in our building was approaching 95 degrees at 9am. Not being a masochist, I of course decided to «work from home» which in Jennie lingo means curling up on my couch with my laptop, sans pants. Stupid pants, who needs them anyway? When noon rolled around and I began contemplating how I could possibly increase the awesomeness quotient of this already fine Monday, I decided I would treat myself to lunch at whatever new place I wanted to try. Johnny T’s was staring at me from the front page of Unilocal, and given its proximity to my house and the fact that I love greasy meat, the decision was practically made for me. When I sauntered up to the trailer I was greeted by a guy so friendly I immediately started feeling guilty for frowning at anyone, ever, over the course of my entire life. Seriously, Johnny T, if you are a real person, give the guy working the trailer on Monday afternoons(with the long-ish hair) a medal for being AWESOME. He complimented my «vintage» New Kids on the Block t-shirt, walked me through all of his favorites on the menu, and suggested ordering a 2-meat plate instead of 2 half-pound portions of meat and two separate sides, which allowed me to try everything I wanted to try and saved me money in the process. I don’t typically tip at food trailers because I equate tipping with service, but I received such excellent SERVICE at Johnny T’s today that I shoved a fistful of dollars in the tip jar after ordering. I know there are folks in this town who will line up to have BBQ slung at them by surly pitmasters(not naming names!) but I’m not one of those people. Thank you awesome guy for being so awesome. I apologize for my abuse of «awesome,» but you, sir, should have your picture along with the definition in Webster’s. And the food? WORTHPUTTNGONPANTSFOR, folks. The brisket may not quite approach the nirvana of Louie Mueller or Snow’s, but Johnny T’s is 10 minutes from my house, not two or three counties away. The moist brisket is plenty moist, but not quite as greasy as the BBQ giants like Franklin, which may be a plus for some people. The pulled pork is excellent, and the ribs are meaty and tender. As a bonus, the sides are actually GOOD here — the mustardy potato salad is probably the best I’ve had at a BBQ joint, and the banana pudding tastes like my grandma made it. I only ate half of what I ordered so I could save the remainder for my boyfriend for dinner, but I admit I was reeeeeal tempted to polish off that banana pudding and pretend it had never existed. Is it the best BBQ you’ve ever eaten? No, probably not if you’ve been to Louie Mueller or Snow’s. Is it some of the best BBQ in city limits if you don’t feel like standing in a line and sweating your balls off for 2 hours on a workday? YES. This is some FIIIIINEBBQ. 4 stars for food, 1 star for excellent service. Now back to my regularly scheduled meat coma.

Well, it looks like I just missed seeing Jennifer O on my visit today. I’m familiar with Johnny T’s restaurant in Round Rock, so when I was at The Naty a few weeks back, and saw that Johnny T’s had a trailer coming soon, I just knew I had to come back. Fast forward 2 – 3 weeks, and here I am. You can’t miss this place — it’s in the food truck/trailer park along with several others. Go park over in the gym parking lot, and feel guilty for a moment that you’re about to stuff your face with meaty goodness, instead of working out. The guilt is momentary… the smell of BBQ will make you forget about your soon-to-be-expanding midsection. Johnny T’s has lots of options — their most popular is probably the meat plates. You can pick anywhere from 1 – 4 meats for your meat plate, plus 2 sides. I chose the brisket and sausage.(Elgin sausage, by the way — woo!) They were out of my favorite side(the tamale potato casserole), but I was able to get my sweet potato fries and pinto beans. Works for me! As an added bonus, they had Mexican Coke, and it was ice cold. I hate soda for the most part, but I love me some Mexican Coke. Food came out within minutes, and I was ready to dig in. They have 3 different types of BBQ sauce, so feel free to try ‘em all while shoveling tasty meats into your mouth. By the time I finished my meat, I barely had room for the fries, beans, and Texas toast.(But I did it, anyway, cuz I will not be defeated by sides! Take that, Texas toast — you will not get the best of me!) Both guys running the trailer were awesome — exceptional customer service, dudes. Oh, oh, oh — and the best part? As I was finishing up my meal, the owner came out with a free sample — Elgin sausage stuffed pork loin with PEACHBARBEQUESAUCE. Holy freakin’ bajeebus, that stuff was like crack. Seriously, I’d like to place my order for a tanker full of that stuff, please. PEACH. BARBEQUE. SAUCE. You read that correctly — it was amazing. Hell, I loved it better than the other 3 sauces they had.(The sausage stuff pork loin was pretty tasty, too.) You’re doin’ a fine job, Johnny T’s. No need to wait in line for 2 hours at other places — I’ll come to your restaurant or your trailer for yummy BBQ goodness.

I’ve been to the NATY several times now and was excited to hear they were getting a BBQ food stand to round out the NATY. I eagerly anticipated finding out who would be taking this spot here. The guy at Snarky’s told me it was someone who had a BBQ restaurant one of my previous visits. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Johnny T’s was the one who moved in. I’ve been to Johnny T’s in Round Rock and enjoy their BBQ. I ask a friend to lunch and we head down to the NATY. We park and go to the middle of the trailer yard. I ask if he’s been there before and he hasn’t. Not only that, he tells me he’s never eaten at a food stand before. What!?! How can someone NOT ever have eaten from a food trailer. Did he just land here from another planet or what? I patiently point out the different offerings and let him know the ones I’ve tried. He says he trusts me and will eat where I eat. I actually think he was a little afraid of the food trailers as he stuck so close to me I almost kept running into him. So, we both had Johnny T’s BBQ. I had a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast and he tried the open face sausage and chopped beef sandwich. They have three different types of BBQ sauce(mild, hot, and a Carolina BBQ style). I like all three but enjoy the Carolina BBQ one as it’s a little different from the norm. Both our sandwiches were really good. Moist and flavorful. I will definitely be back. The only downside was it would be nice if they offered chips to go with the sandwiches. They did offer sides but it would have been a little too much on the heavy side with a sandwich for lunch. I don’t know if our little trip to the NATY cured my friends phobia of food stands but he was smiling a lot and did say he really enjoyed his meal. As for me, I have no problems trying out the various food stands, and will definitely be back to try Johnny T’s again.

1st time visit to the NATY! We stopped here to try all the trailers at The NATY, and we did. What the?! Holy mother of GOD! Johnny T’s BBQ, has a Food Trailer at the NATY! I was so surprised when I saw the sign. Yes! Brisket and Rib’s without the trip to RR. I placed my order and had a few BYOB beers. Then I ran home to devour the goods. The Brisket and Ribs are just as fine as the Round Rock, TX location. We ate til we could eat no more. The side’s were sold out when we got there, but we got the sweet meat. Hell Yeah! Spoke to the owner and this is a relatively soft opening. No advertising now. I can’t seem to stop with the … I’m so excited though. Not sure of the hour’s of operation but I think I’ll swing by occasionally just to check on them later. Best of luck at the NATY Johnny T’s.
