This place was surprisingly busy for a Friday morning, and for good reason. The Migas Taco was fantastic, and the prices were unbeatable. I kind of wish I could have breakfast here every day.

Joe’s was the first place where we had amazing warmth and hospitality. The food was delicious and authentic Mexican brunch. The flour tortillas are freshly made in-house. The carne guisada(pork or beef in a Mexican cumin gravy) was very tender and complimented the brunch-style eggs, beans, beacon, and potatoes. The staff was incredibly helpful. There is also a bakery inside, but you need to come in early for greater variety. It was about a 30 min wait but worth it. There is a music jukebox inside that plays mainly Tejano music… I didn’t check all the selection of music they had. I will be coming back if I am in Austin.

Okay, okay,. all the hype is real. The barbacoa tacos with cilantro and onion are infact crazy delicious. Simplicity works for this dish. Simple is good. Edit** I feel like I should mention that the service was great too. We had a very pleasant young lady waiting on us and was very attentive.

Just as an update Hector, im assuming the manager, sent me a very distasteful and tacky private message. So please to all Unilocalers who like to post anything honest about this establishment. Expect a very RUDE reply. So the business should take their own advice and«keep it cute or keep it mute».

Old Austin is alive and well! Felt like I was eating with a giant family reunion. Lots of laughter, folks hugging each other as they came and went. The music was a mix of Stevie Ray Vaughn, the Gap Band, and mariachi, and at one point they entire room broke into feliz cumpleaños! Doesn’t hurt the huevos de chorizo and barbacoa tacos were delicious.

I love Joe’s Bakery! The food is always fresh and hot. The service is fast and friendly. The Joe’s plate is huge and has a ton of food. I make it a point to eat here every time I’m in austin. I just love it here.

This is my second time trying Joe’s and today I was so looking forward to the carnegesada. Unfortunately they must have scraped it off the bottom of the skillet or pot as the meat in both my tacos had burnt pieces throughout, ugh. Very over cooked. Wish I could get a do over. (#97) Hugely disappointing… that we failed to come here before today… Seriously some killer food coming out of the kitchen… Place was packed. but they do close at 3. It was a seat yourself arena, yet the wait staff nailed it. chips, salsa(green), and queso hit the table… have to take a Star for the ¾ filled queso bowl. and we at odds for the fact they only had a green style.97 different joints. first with a green sauce only .and Man… spicy has a new friend… so hot you can’t stop«Eating It».Hot…and with a «small» spoonful in the queso .Yum…on to the basics. wife hit the Beef Chiladas…3 packed out corn tortillas with some great tasting beef tucked away inside. awesome smokey tasting red sauce smothered them. and you want cheese on top… they have cheese… and cooked with just a tad bit of color on top… yea«burnt» cheese. only the true cheese heads will get that one. rice was a perfect fit for the dish… I had the combo plate .two chicken Chiladas with a tasty gravy on top. not a green sauce, but matched the flavor of the chicken. and yes they use«Whole Bird»…big chucks of chicken, moist, and full of flavor… and yes I got the cheese topping treatment as well. Beans were the Bomb… and a amazing crunchy taco with the same beef the wife had… BFB(Bang For Buck) 5/5…This place really grabbed our taste buds. Next year will be spent re-visiting some our favorites and this is in top of the list!

So very delicious. Best Mexican breakfast in Austin! Had the breakfast plates and a taco. And we were blown away at how delicious it was. The chicken enchiladas are also unreal. Service was friendly; everyone treats you like family!

Joe’s Bakery has been around for 50 years and do you know why? Because they do cheap Tex-Mex café breakfasts and cheap breakfast tacos. This is the recipe for success in Austin. The tortillas are homemade and delicious. The eggs are fluffy, and the various ingredients of the breakfast tacos are solid. Not a huge fan of the bacon as it is fried and too crisp for my taste but I know other people that call it the best bacon in town. Surprisingly I like their refried beans as well.

I went to joes yesterday with my friend, she’s on the search for a life changing breakfast taco. The place reminds me a lot of home, San Antonio. Very authentic and small with tons and tons of people wanting to get in. The homemade tortillas were amazing! I haven’t really had a great tortillas like that here in Austin. My Migas taco was great as well, exactly what I expected. The potato and egg taco fell a bit short, I’m really picky on my potato and eggs though. I also wish they had a red version of salsa, the green was good and spicy but I like options. It was very crowed but then again it was a Saturday morning and a game day! Experience was pleasant.

FOODWASMEH — ANDTHESERVERGAVEMEMYTO-GOORDERWHICHSHEKEPTONTHECOLDDIRTYFLOOR?! I bought 40 tacos this morning to carry to work to share with colleagues — migas, egg & bacon, and egg & sausage. Both corn and flour. Alongside I purchased pico de gallo and the salsa was provided with the tacos. The food was just barely ok(and not so warm) — the migas bland and I didn’t find any corn chips in my migas taco.(I’ve been to Joe’s and got nothing but corn chips in my migas so I reckon that was not necessarily a bad thing.) The pico was barely pico — coursely cut aging yellowing onions, soft tomatoes and wilted greens in littlish containers at $ 4 bux each. All together my order was roughly a bit above $ 100 bux. I asked the attendent to be sure to keep them under a heat lamp because I had to run get donuts too(which I expressed multiple times). He was very amenable and seemingly helpful. I left a $ 5 tip to show my appreciation. Upon return — the guy was gone. After a few minutes wait a middle-aged woman hands me a box she picks up OFFTHEFLOOR behind the register! And I comment that the tacos were to be kept warm and she quickly defends herself saying that they had just been boxed up just recently(ANDPUTONTHEFLOOR!!!). She then shoed me away. So I checked them in the car to realize they were lukewarm at best. they probably sat on that floor longer than she knew or shared with me. So I called the restaurant to let them know about my experience 1) about the importance of keeping bulk tacos for work hot AND2) about putting someone’s food on the floor! The same woman answered and said she was the manager and basically fussed me out saying that I could bring them back for reimbursement then hung up on me. Thanks Joe’s for making me unhappy to shop with you.

This place has been on radar for more than a year now. The last time I tried to go here, I couldn’t even get into the parking lot. Now that I’ve actually gotten to sit down and eat, I get it. Courteous employees greet you and grab your name for a seat. Once we sat down, our waiter Saul constantly checked on us. He answered the few questions we had and we ordered the Joey Rocha, the Chicharrones, some Menudo, and a Chorizo and egg taco. The carne guisada is tender and moist, but the gravy/sauce it sits in is Heaven. I could eat that alone with the fresh flour tortillas. I wish the chicharrones were crispy but the salsa it sits in makes up for what I wanted. The menudo hit the spot as it was savory and just went down easy. The chorizo bled grease but had so much flavor. No complaints as long as I can sit down and eat. Crap I’m hungry again and I just ate lunch.

I rarely order breakfast but was up early one day and had an hour to kill before work. I decided to go to Joe’s to get some breakfast tacos, which are over priced. I was the only customer to tip. I put a dollar in the tip jar. I sat and waited and saw every single person behind me get their orders served immediately. After about ten people were rung up and given food, And the line cleared out, I asked about my food. It had been thirty minutes! I was almost late to work because of these dummies that operate the counter. The whole setup is a mess and confusing and the people aren’t the nicest. My food was stuffed at the bottom of the«to go» orders. If it was cold I was going to return it but it was actually not cold. I was surprised. I believe this to be racially motivated as I was the only white person in the building. Everyone else seemed to get much better service and help. Why was my order stuffed out of sight? Why can’t they communicate orders? Ridiculous I had to do their job. I was the only customer that tipped too. I wanted my dollar back(after waiting 30 minutes) but I just let it go. I will never return to this dump. Much better tacos are found on Manor Road anyways, and they aren’t racist.

I have been a long time Austin resident but never ventured to Joe’s Bakery. One Saturday morning I headed over to this spot on E. 7th. I walk and the place is certainly packed. You can tell all the locals love this spot. All the tables are filled and many of the waiters seem to know these customers. The place has a good layout of tables and I grabbed a seat at the counter. The menu shows this is a true Mexican bakery shop. All types of breakfast tacos, migas, chicharron plate, american breakfast, and pancakes. You order chips & green salsa for $ 1.25. The breakfast tacos are quite large. Certainly made on fresh bakery morning tortillas, well cooked eggs, crispy bacon and quality cheese. The migas taco is an excellent worthy taco for Austin. Breakfast is served all day. I will give Joe’s two things going for it. First the menu prices are amazing affordable. You certainly get a lot of food for the low bill that is delivered. Second is the staff is on point with operations in the restaurant. They are very efficient moving people in and out because there is certainly people waiting for the next table. Joe’s has a lot of history on the pictures in this wall. I did not even touch the bakery section but it looked to have a lot of great Mexican bakery goods. I realize why this place is so popular on the east side. Excellent service, tasty food, and great value. This is certainly a true authentic spot for Austin, TX!

Craving coffee and tacos early in the morning around East Austin brought me to this simple older dumpy building with no flash or pretense. Inside fresh traditional Mexican cookies beamed from two pastry cases like morning sunshine, from large Danishes, to pan cakes with buttery frosting, to an array of Mexican cookies, which are specifically not very sweet and a bit dry. «This place has been here forever.» My friend said with some grog, and lack of enthusiasm. «The tacos are alright.» He advised, which meant something since he’s critical and I trust him. The egg and bacon breakfast taco $ 2 wasn’t anything extraordinary, but it reminded me of old austin. The corn tortilla held together and was warm enough, the eggs not dry with a solid large slice of bacon inside. Locals waited patiently as orders were placed, diners quietly consumed under supernaturally blood rich colors of a virgin de Guadalupe tapestry, perhaps framed with Christmas lights. The oatmeal raisin cookie also had the charms of homemade imperfections, it tasted fresh but was a bit overly crunchy and thin. Still, it spelled a sort of love. The carne guisada taco was a delightful snack later, with great flavor, and little sauce so the tortilla was still solid. Joes is a basic Mexican bakery and breakfast place. It works just fine but it’s best attribute is its homemade local feel. Some might call this place a dive — but I call it casa.

The food and experience at Joe’s was average. There are plenty of other places in Austin with the same quality food and not as long of a wait. I came here on a Sunday around 10:30 and had to wait 35 mins to be seated. Our server was an older gentlemen that was slightly rude to our table. He was short with his responses to our questions, and he talked to us like were were dumb women. After waiting for 30 minutes I really wasn’t in the mood for a crappy waiter. We ordered our food and it came out quick. I got the migas with everything, and they came with homemade tortillas. My food was pretty average. Like I said, there are multiple places in Austin where you can get the exact same thing. There is nothing special about Joe’s and I wouldn’t come back on my own. I might have just gotten there at the wrong time with the wrong server, but my experience didn’t warrant future visits.

Joe’s is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Austin. In so happy to have found a place that has the kind of breakfast I had when I lived in El Paso. The Migas with cheese and the Huevos con chorizo are my favorites. I always get the homemade flour tortillas. Great waitstaff as well

Migas and breakfast tacos. Those are 2 things synonymous with Austin. And prior to coming here I read that Joe’s has some of the best of both. For starters, a breakfast taco is whatever your having for breakfast placed inside a flour tortilla. For instance, if your having bacon and eggs, place it inside a flour tortilla to eat it and you have a breakfast taco. Not quite sure why these are pretty much limited to Texas but that’s just the way it is. Of course Del Taco, always one to be innovative, has been serving breakfast tacos in Cali for some time now. I liked Joes. Very homey feel with good service and great prices. Thats one thing that shocked me about Austin is that you can eat good on the cheap. And get great food to boot! Migas is a scrambled egg with tortilla chips mixed in and topped with cheese and if you get a Miga Taco Con Todo it also includes jalapeño, tomato and onion. Kind of similar to a breakfast I ate as a kid of scrambled egg and tortilla. During my short stay in Austin I came here for breakfast twice. I kind of love this place. On my second visit I tried a bowl of the menudo. Menudo here was different then what I am use to in LA. Very dark broth with added spiciness. Lots of meat but very little hominy. I’m a hominy man and would have liked more of it in the menudo, but it was by no means bad. I recommend to any other out of town visitors like myself to visit Joes for breakfast. You will not be disappointed and your wallet and stomach will thank you. Thanks Joe’s for giving me a great place for breakfast during my visit.
