I really wanted this to be my spot in the new hood, but it won’t be. There wasn’t anything wrong with the place, the Mac was great, but I feel like they need to change their name and remove the word«bar» from their name. When I sat at the bar, the staff seemed confused I wasn’t just getting takeout. I noticed families and kids start to pour in around happy hour and that’s when I realized I was in a restaurant not what I’d hoped would be my neighborhood pub. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be back and maybe it’s different later in the evening and I did appreciate being able to order off the kids menu.

Tonight was the first time I have ever eaten here and it will be my last. I was expecting it to be very good because of the hype surrounding it but that’s all it is, hype based upon its location in a trendy area of town. I had the chicken fried steak. The batter was soggy and too salty and the meat was tough. The green beans were undercooked and the mashed potatoes were bland. The service was some of the worst service I’ve experienced in a long time. The waitress was lackluster and barely paid attention to us. Also, she brought my 6 year old son a glass that could easily hold 32 Oz of liquid, with no lid. The glass was so big he wouldn’t have been able to pick it up on his own to drink. I immediately asked her to take it away and bring us a cup with a lid that was more appropriate for him and instead she left it on the table. Not a minute later, he accidentally spilled it soaking the table, me and my cellphone. Instead of apologizing or offering any kind of sympathy for the situation, she simply tossed a kitchen towel at me to clean it up with. Do not waste your time eating at this overpriced and mediocre establishment. You will be highly disappointed.

My friend and I were looking for a place to get fries and a drink, so we went here. Great decision! It was pretty late in the evening, but when I got there I decided I also wanted food(but not too much) so the waiter let me order a burger off of the kids menu. It was smaller, so it was just the right amount. The server was friendly, and the atmosphere felt a little fancier and also fun. I will be back for sure!

This place was awesome! My bffs and I went here for brunch on Sunday and enjoyed a few $ 3 mimosas and some amazing food! The service was top notch and the décor is beyond cute and warm. Plan on going back next week with my significant other for dinner!

Had to try the avocado fries and the Reuben sandwich. I can’t complain about any of it. Everyone at the table was satisfied. The wait staff was great, the place is charming. I would return.

This place used to be AMAZING, but I went there a couple of times about 18 months to a year ago and the quality of the food had decreased substantially from where it was five years ago. Lived in Hyde Park for five years and used to hit this place up at least once a month the first few years I was in the neighborhood. The last couple of times were just sort of, «meh», but it gets three stars because the fries are bad-ass! Probably the best I’ve ever had. You owe it to yourself to try the fries… My gf lives there now and I’ll visit in a couple of weeks, and I hope to stop in for some fries! For those, it’s definitely worth a visit, and perhaps they’ve turned things around.

I love this place! I’ve been twice– once to this location and once to the Westgate location. This location is definitely more ambient and feels like a fun, Austin place. I’m not a huge salad eater when it comes to dining out, but their spinach salad with blackened chicken(with warm bacon vinaigrette and honey mustard) is ah-mazing. The parking here is easy, the location is central, and the wait staff are friendly. The only thing I wish was different was the pricing– it’s a little on the expensive side for what you get– I think with tip, my meal(water and the salad) ended up being $ 17.00−18.00 which is a little high. Great place though.

Average café food. Enough variety to please everyone in your large party while not being outstanding or offensive in any way. Points for the setting in a converted house in Hyde Park. They do, however, charge extra for to-go orders. I only go there when someone else suggests it. Some house specialties worth trying, as well as the fries, which are good, but by no means great. I was not impressed with the black bean burger; it was mushy and fell apart. I would like to try the Horseshoe, preferably to share. Reuben decent– had to order a side of fries. Nothing comes for free in this world, least of all, zee French Fries(actually the sauce that comes with the fries IS included).

Ordered takeout and it was fabulous. All was superb. His austin gem is a must visit. I buy extra tamales and make breakfast tacos out of them(cut them up and mix with eggs for a delicious treat… I wish they’d add it to their brunch menu!) veggie burger is amazing. Friend got the pimento sandwich with bacon and said its the BEST he’s ever had. Get the fries with the crack dipping sauce. YUMMMMM

Hyde Park Grill is a solid neighborhood choice. Having lived in North Loop/Hyde Park area for over 6 months I finally stopped in here with a friend after a night out Christmas shopping. We both ordered the fried chicken special and a margarita. The margarita was tasty and took the edge off after a few hours of hell(shopping). The fried chicken was delicious and huge, we could have easily split a plate– especially since we then ordered banana cream pie :) our waiter was extremely pleasant and made the evening for us. Will definitely be going back in regularly now that I know what I have been missing.

Hyde Park Bar & Grill is one of those local Austin restaurants that everyone will tell you to try. I will have to join the bandwagon on this one. If you’re looking for a menu filled with hearty entrees, you have found it in Hyde Park Bar & Grill. I had the Horseshoe Sandwich when I went here. I had never even heard of such a thing before. It was incredibly delicious. The main claim to fame for me was their french fries. I think that they double fry them. Whatever it is, they are amazing. I haven’t yet been for brunch, but I’ve heard this is one of the best places to go, so I would recommend giving it a try for weekend brunch. No matter the date or time, your tastebuds won’t be disappointed.

I went here a couple years ago when I first came to Austin and have dreamed of their chicken fried steak since. On a return visit, I was sadly disappointed that it didn’t live up to my memory. It, and the amazing battered French fries were good, but maybe not the best in town. But! That chocolate cake was AMAZING! Either way, it is nice to be in a calm, family, neighborhood type restaurant. Easy in, no hype, no fuss, unpretentious, but still good food!

Always a delicious, friendly, and comfortable experience. The staff is always ultra friendly, food always comes out super super fast and ugh… it’s to die for. When my parents visit from out of town, this is where I take them because I know they’ll never complain when we eat here haha. Never a bad experience.

Sometimes in one’s dining life in Austin, it’s refreshing to go to a place that’s not the hipster small plate cool new restaurant of the week. A place that’s a comfortable old house, with lots of parking around back, a bit worn around the edges, just casual and friendly. Where you can count on a decent bar, solid burger, a nice variety of tasty filling blue plates, and yes, the fries. And to know that the place is there for you, a decade ago, and with any luck a decade from now. Service not always top star, but usually wears a smile and good intentions. Thank you for being there for us, oh great fork by the road that calls us to dinner.

You know that guilty feeling when you should be saving up money and cooking at home but this location is just so close to home and you’re lazy? Hyde Park Bar & Grill has parking, has staff, has a nice & clean environment with good food! I’ve came here for dinner twice and breakfast, and I never order a meal without a margarita or sunday special! Burgers are good and have a nice mom’s taste to it, sunday eggs benedict are pretty hearty and generously portioned, and the fries are wow! Don’t even need ketchup. Try and go during happy hours and get yourself a glass of your adult privilege. You can’t go wrong here.

Best things about Hyde Park Bar & Grill: 1. $ 3 cocktails for Sunday brunch 2. Fries I have ordered their classic burger, which is a hearty burger that has that ‘backyard bbq’ home-grilled kind of feel to it, as well as the fish tacos, which were bomb. For brunch, I ordered an omelette, which I thought was pretty decent. The best thing though has to be their fries. They are not only delicious on their own but pair them with the dipping sauce they give you and they’re to die for. The atmosphere is definitely ‘Austiny’ and gives off a very homey vibe, which also comes from the fact that I am pretty sure it used to be a home. It’s comfortable and the workers are friendly and attentive. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for drinks, breakfast, lunch or dinner, and it has a wide American style menu which makes it a great go-to if you’re not sure what you’re craving!

Hyde Park Grill has been serving consistently delicious food for many years. I had lunch here today to get my annual pimento cheese sandwich and Hyde Park Fries fix. It was delicious! Same quality and flavor as 10+ years ago. The fries are really noteworthy here. If you are a french fry fan you have to try them. Have to! As some other reviewers have noted, Hyde Park Grill isn’t «hip.» And I agree. There was definitely an older crowd here on Friday afternoon. But guess what? Some«old» people have excellent taste! If you want reliably tasty American food, with a nice drink on the side(many nice soft drink options too), and polite, courteous service– stop in to the Hyde Park Grill. You won’t be disappointed.

Hyde Park B&G gets a bad wrap in Austin for being normal American food with no cool fusions or hipster décor. I think that’s BS. We love this place! Whether you’re there on steak night or fried chicken night, or want a burger or a piece of grilled chicken, a side of fries, or a side salad, you can’t go wrong with Hyde Park Bar and Grill. The biggest lacking element of this place is the service. It’s hit or miss. Bar selection is great — local beers and liquors, great bourbon/whiskey selection, decent wine selection. Highly recommend this place for a night when you just want a normal meal.

I hadn’t been here in years but had good memories, plus my husband had been recently and had good things to share, so I tried it again. The atmosphere is very nice and we were greeted and seated right away.(fyi: more parking around back.) The waitress was also attentive and polite. However, the food was just OK. I would come back, but I won’t be quick to recommend it. In my group of three, one really enjoyed the food, I thought it was OK and the third lady thought it needed some real improvement.

Right off the batt: Get the fries! not too skinny, not too crunchy, they are battered with buttermilk and go great with the aioli. Not sure what to get? can’t go wrong with the daily special. I got the chicken guacamole BLT: Char grilled chicken breast with with homemade guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and bacon on a toasted a brioche bun WITHMOREFRIES. Very good. The place has a nice cozy feel(bc it was an old house, step lightly) Parking is limited up front but there’s more parking in the rear. get there early to avoid circling. great neighborhood.

I took my boys here for lunch while my wife was in town for a conference. She lives in Austin for several years, and told me this was a great place to eat. She specially doted on the fries. It’s in the Hyde Park area of Austin. It’s in what appears to be or have been at one time an older house. Parking was a little tricky as we parked in what was an alleyway up against the fence, so I was kind of hard to get out of the vehicle but not too terribly hard. We were greeted and seated promptly. We were set in a very comfortable booth in the front corner of the restaurant. Our waitress was wonderful. She gave some good recommendations, and took our orders quickly. The bathroom was nice and clean, and the service and food was absolutely wonderful. I do recommend the fries. They have a breading that is different from normal fries, and a sauce that compliments it so well. The hamburger that I got was absolutely delicious, very juicy and with a lot of flavor. My boys both enjoyed their meals. They got my oldest sons order incorrect, as I had ordered mac & cheese but they gave him a grilled cheese. They let them keep the grilled cheese and brought a mac & cheese quite quickly. I’m not a mac & cheese guy, but this mac & cheese was delicious. My other son order chicken fingers and they were also very tasty. When I’m back in Austin I will definitely be going here again.

I have been to this location 10+ times merely because I was really hungry and needed a quick fix. Hyde Parks food is just okay. On my last trip 4÷26÷15 I popped in for brunch and ordered the Chicken and Waffles. I’ve had chicken and waffles at several places and Hyde Park’s is probably the worst. You can’t really mess up waffles so I’ll blame the chicken. All I tasted was batter, unseasoned batter. I basically had to struggle through the chicken because I was starving. I have had their whole brunch menu and some of the main menu so I can confidently say that the food really is not that great. If you are hungover and just trying to fill a void under $ 10 this is your spot. Atmosphere: 3⁄5 Food:3/5

You must order the fries! My girlfriends and I used to go here all the time in college. I even ely went back with my little brother, and he absolutely loved his meal! Of course to start, we shared black pepper fries and avocado fries to start. The dipping sauce accompanying the fries is perfection. We both completely cleaned our plates. He ordered the chicken fried chicken and subbed rice pilaf and green beans. As he was eating, he kept commenting on how fresh and tasty the gravy was while also praising the tender and juicy the chicken. I got the three veggie plate, with max and cheese, braised collard greens with bacon, and green beans. I’m happy to see that the place is still packed and the quality is just as good if not better than I remember from my college days in Austin.

Some things never change, like being greeted by a friendly, legacy host, in a very cozy little restaurant in my favorite little Austin neighborhood. So much has changed in this town that I had forgotten about my old favorite, HPG. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid! I’ve been on numerous dates at this place, and have had many heart-to-heart conversations with friends and family in every single room. Today I went back with my best friend, and we had an amazing time. We ordered from the brunch menu, but we’re able to sun our potatoes for those damn delicious collard greens with bacon! I highly recommend this. I also recommend the soups, salads, the salmon, the steak, the Hyde Park fries, the crispy green beans, the sandwiches, the burgers, and the chicken fried chicken. It’s all pretty dang good. Not a lot of the old«Austin Cuisine» restaurants have remained relevant, but I still think Hyde Park Grill is great.
