I am new to the North Austin area and needed a haircut ASAP. I came into Platinum Fades, and was attended almost immediately. The gentlemen who cut my hair was Steve. I showed him a picture of as a reference to how I wanted my hair cut and he did it exactly. Needles to say I will be returning regularly.

Love her! She has been doing my hair for years and I literally sit in her chair and let her work her magic! My hair not only looks fantastic but is so much healthier since I started going to Heather. Wouldn’t let anyone else touch my hair. Seriously.

Where do I start? I’ve been dreading writing this review for quite some time. But the truth must be told. I came here because I followed the cardinal rule of hair in a new city. Find someone’s hair you like… and ask where they got it done. Get enough of the same answers… that’s where you go. Where I fell short was only one person responded with this place. Its actually a men’s barbershop. My fiancée immediately asked… are you sure you want to get your hair done here? I said I’ll give it a shot. She started using 20 developer and I knew I made a grave decision. After analyzing what went wrong for days I finally figured it out. While looking through the book I pointed to a section of colors meaning I enjoy neutral browns not red browns because those turn me orange. The only thing I ask is that you please not turn me orange. She VOWED she would not let me leave orange yet orange i left. She interpreted I wanted a LIGHT neutral brown, not dark(to match what I had already on my head and in a picture of my own hair I brought. Myhair was a big brass mess but my love had been sitting patiently and was starving. I’ll go home and asses. later I GIVE2 stars bc she did offer to fix it if I hated it. I appreciate that. We made plans for Wed. I had class at 9 and my appt was at 3, so I stayed on that side of town since I live pretty far away — and get a text, o by the way I cant make it. want to sched for 5 today or tomorrow? Well lets settle on tomorrow. Still running late so I just waited an extra hour int he car for her. All this should have been red flags… just go somewhere else to fix this.…but I had faith. The next three hours were followed by 2MORE processes to try to neutralize the orange mess brass mess. It is severely damaged now, the haircut is even worse. my hair wont do anything it used to before, including hot rollers, or stay straight unless I use Frederick Fekkai 2x a week. I have no idea how to fix this but to drive 3 .5 hours to my old hair dresser and get a cut and color from her. Most of the time when you go to your hair dresser they get to know you and you get to know them and you chat. This seemed very forced to her and that’s ok. I can deal with my hair being done in silence, but I just cant take having to have my hair have THREE processes to get it done in. everyone makes mistakes. we are all humans. but one correction should be sufficient no? The layers werent long they were all pretty much even so now I hve just 2 distinctly even layers. I’m just now avoiding heat and hoping to restore my hair to its previous glory within the next 2 years or so. I wanted so badly to have found a diamond in the ruff. maybe she will do better on you now that she knows what not to do because of my experience there.

This place is half barber shop, half men’s lounge. Kinda threw me off at first — definitely not what I’m used to. Randy is great with the clippers. No frills, will clean you up, line you up, box you off, whatever you need. There’s a minibar with beers and a few bottles of booze for those who want to relax a bit, either before getting their hair cut or while just hanging out. It may require a wait(20 minutes or so), but if you’re looking for a solid men’s haircut, this is the spot.

I recently moved Austin from Boston and I’ve been dying for a solid taper fade from a good barber. I used to go to Floyds 99, but their $ 25 fade wasn’t worth it. Not only was it overly expensive, but the quality was a total crapshoot. My gf recently stumbled upon Platinum Fades and told me to check them out, as they are close to my house. That advice was probably the most useful piece of info she’s dished out since we started dating. My experience was great, and I can most definitely say that Platinum Fades is THE number ONE spot!.. Just like Ludacris said… Randy(Owner of Platinum) gave me a clean, tight, taper fade. It was exactly what I described to him, and what I was looking for. I haven’t been this happy about my haircut since I left my last barber of 15 years, in Boston. Randy is the man! His fades and lineups are tight. I’ll be back every week or so, for sure. So not only was the fade sick, but I was offered a drink, I was in and out in about 30 minutes, and I left having only spent $ 15. All that being said, head over to Platinum Fades for a fresh cut, ASAP.

Heather is a great stylist and she took time to make sure my hair looked great. She is not stuck up or snobby like some stylists in Austin. She seemed excited that I was open to something dramatic which signals to me that she is really comfortable with color and trendy looks. The salon is also a barber shop and it was really comfortable, not sterile like some salons are. I usually dread sitting all day at the salon but I was given 2 glasses of wine that sure made it easy to hang out and be comfortable. They are currently in the process of building a bar in there which I think is going to be pretty neat when it is done! I will be going back and I recommend you check it out, girls and guys alike.
