Chill atmosphere, family friendly, happy hour friendly, single drowning your sorrows(aka lots of alcohol available) friendly. This place is just friendly. The poutine however arrive pretty cold but the sausage plate($ 10 on HH, $ 16 regularly) arrived hot hot hot with two kinds of kraut(I think that purple pickled stuff is still considered kraut.) The craft beer is limited to about 8 but the bottle selection is grand(and by grand, I mean about 30 – 40?) See photos for all the tasty libation options. Hooks under the bar for your purse are a huge plus! I can’t wait to try out more of their menu. I hear their bloody marys are epic, but I’m just not that kinda gal. You should try it and let me know :)

I’ve been looking forward to visiting Frank for a while and I finally had the opportunity on late Sat PM. The crowd was pretty thin so we got a table pronto. All of us were looking forward to a specialty dog and a beer. The Elvis fries caught our eye and we ordered one as an App. Our sausages/dogs came out great. My beef — pork Combo was perfect. Another had the gator sausage and reported it was off the charts. Now the bad news the fries never arrived. When we asked we got a mumbled response that they should have come out as an App… Thanks Capt Obvious! Well surprise they arrived a few minutes post asking. Dropped on the table with a mumbled sorry. After a few minutes of staring at our empty plates and the cold fries I called out server back over and stated the obvious, we don’t want them and please remove them from our bill. Another mumble and he was off to get the bill. Great dogs/sausages, a good selection of beer and specialty drinks… Service blah…

Go with an appetite! Portions are generous and tasty and the service was quick. Four of us ordered and were just getting served when a 5th joined our party, our server was able to get his order in and out to the table very fast! Prices were reasonable. Excellent selection of sausages. We will certainly return next time we’re in Austin.

Had the Reuben fries(large), texalina hot dog, and the notorious PIG hot dog. Come here if you’re really hungry. This was wayyy too much food for two people

After my last visit I’m a little unimpressed with Frank. Coming in at 2:30PM on a Sunday and being that this is a hotdog place, I sort of figured I’d be able to get a hotdog. Unfortunately it was brunch only. And for some reason(there can’t be a good one) there’s no brunch dog??? Bizarre. The regular menu resumed at 4, but we were starving so we decided to try out what was offered. The brunch menu has chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, several eggs Benedicts, a breakfast burger, grilled cheese… Almost all gluten-y entrees so I ordered sides of eggs and spam. The fried spam was a bit undercooked(soggy on one side), but the eggs were great. Our waitress was polite but I’d say service was a little on the inattentive side. Of course it was pretty busy when we first arrived. I stood at the bar for a good 15 minutes before I could order a drink(or even get anyone to look at me). My ginger cherry limeade was delicious, though. Not too sweet, strong, and refreshing. I’ll be back, but I’ll wait for lunch.

This may be a tourist trap, but its a tourist trap that I want to go to every time I go to Austin. I LOVE the Bloody Marys. Seriously, you put a piece of bacon, a jalapino olive, and a hunk of cheese on a Bloody Mary and everything in the world is good again. The food was Delicious! We wanted to try it all! The server was very helpful– provided us suggestions and even cut our choices in half so we could share. We split the Jackalope(smoked antelope, rabbit, and pork sausage dressed with cranberry compote, sriracha aioli, and cheddar) and The Notorious P.I.G.(smoked pork, bacon, jalapeño, sage sausage dressed with mac n’ cheese and Dr. Doppelgänger BBQ sauce). Both were so amazing, I cannot pick a favorite. I want to go back to Austin just to try more food at Frank. What we should have skipped: Potato salad– just okay(Warm Yukon Gold potatoes, onion, apple cider vinegar and scallions), also the bacon chocolate cookie. This was the only medicocure. I wish I would have skipped the cookie/potato salad and split another type of sausage instead.

Frank is the place to go in Austin if you’re in the mood for a good hotdog and beer. I’ve been for brunch, lunch, and their pop-up for ACL — it never disappoints. My go-to is their chili cheese dog with added onion. Their waffle fries are awesome. Portions are big, so you never walk away hungry. A couple of notes: there are 0 hotdog options on the brunch menu and parking is sometimes limited to the $ 10 lot next door.

Heard great things about this spot, and decided to give it a try. Three stars for the great service, but not impressed with the food. Sent back the Poutine Waffle Fries and asked for the cheese to be melted, and they didn’t even get that right the second time. Also had the Notorious PIG, too much spice and not enough flavor. Such a shame, I had high hopes for this one.

I was the first in the place today. It filled up fast in less than 30 – 40 minutes. No issues with service, was prompt and friendly. I had the Texalina and corn cup. If you want something with a little kick, try this. The roastiness of the corn well complimented the spiciness of the dog.

Are you kidding me? Sunday brunch pork benedict was the best eggs benny I’ve ever had(and that’s quite a few). Un. Freaking. Believable. Nothing else to say. Mic drop.

Great location, lovely interior space, I really love the décor and the wood ceiling. We walked in and were greeted and sat down in a timely manner, so far so good… but wait, there is only one more table and they are done eating, we see at least two servers and no one has come to the table yet. When the male server comes to the table it wasn’t the friendly experience I was hoping for for, he looked like he was in a rush and again we were the only table at this point. He took our beverage order, and left… Please note in between him getting our sodas I mean it took him forever to come back to the table, and once again he just seemed more bothered than happy at this moment. We ordered one of the specialty dogs I believe the name was texalina with an order of waffle cheese fries and pulled pork and a side of Mac and cheese. Well food is on the table, let me tell you the hot dog was really good, I really enjoyed the spicy flavored on the dog and blended very well with the sweetness of the bread. Really good. The waffle fries were very good as well and the portion was just perfect for the two of us, now the the Mac n cheese was a complete disappointment. It tasted you like a Kraft Mac and cheese heated up on a microwave, totally unexpected and disappointed. Other than that it was ok. Just don’t order the Mac n cheese. I would give it another chance, perhaps next time I’ll sit at the bar instead.

Frank’s is a regular pit stop for me and a few pals for Sunday brunch. Get there early, because like any Austin brunch spot, there will most definitely be a line out the door once it hits the prime 11 o’clock brunch hour. Their chicken & waffles is my personal favorite here. Their chicken is hormone-free and probably one of the happiest chickens alive when it got the ax(not that I could tell the difference in taste, to be honest), but the real magic is in the breading. I don’t know what spices they put in that breading, but it’s got this zing that’ll have you wishing you could order nothing but fried chicken skin. The waffle used to be wayyy bigger(circa 2012), so much so that you’d definitely need a to-go box, but even so, it’s real healthy portion of goodness(although healthy is probably the wrong word to use here… heh). The honey butter is so good that you don’t even need the syrup… but you should pour some on anyway because it’s the freaking weekend. If you’re looking for something more on the breakfast side of brunch, I highly recommend the Frank O’ American, which has your standard eggs of your style, hash, sausage links + a HUGE pancake. They do a rotating off-menu Benedict special, so be sure to ask about that. Of their on-menu benedicts, I recommend the Texas Benedict. Skip the Pulled Pork Hash because, while it’s absolutely delicious, it probably won’t fill you up(and it’s like the most expensive thing on their menu). Last time I went, they had an off-menu Croque Monsieur, which was pretty bomb as well. I also used to plead with the waiting staff weekly to bring back the rotating off-menu omelette(I think they removed this around 2014), which, I swear was probably made up of at least 8 eggs + the best damn tater tots I’ve ever had. Sadly, no luck there… yet. Hands down, one of my favorite brunch places of all time.

There are few things in life that I will defend until the day I die. One of them is the greatness that is the Chicago-Style hot dog. Well, then I moved to Austin. So in my search to find an acceptable version of a Chicago-Style hot dog I read the great reviews of Frank, and I think they have the closest version. First, they use Vienna hot dogs, second, neon-green relish, and of course poppy seed buns. My one suggestion I have would be to steam those buns for the full effect. Also, you’re going to want some waffle fries.

This place is cool. They have lots of beers and all kinds of different sausages! Parking can be tricky being downtown and they have some outside seating. Food wise this place reminds me a lot of Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden. Same but different too… I had the Creole Gator– custom-made smoked alligator sausage dressed with Tony Chachere’s popcorn crawfish, Crystal slaw, scallions and Creole remoulade on a Frank Bun $ 13.00 and a small Queso Fries– $ 5.95 Crispy waffle fries loaded with queso and pico de gallo and we added pulled pork for $ 3.00. Both really good! My wife got the Lil smokie corn dog bites– $ 5.75 Everyone’s favorite little sausages made into miniature corn dogs. Comes with choice of one Dippin’ Sauce.(serving of eight). It was enough for her with the fries we shared.

Interested in their hotdogs and poutine, we made our way down on a Sunday for lunch. Surprise surprise, they only serve items off their brunch menu. Geez, we even knew they served brunch. Duh, right? Hindsight is 20 – 20. Not letting such tragic events hinder our lunch plans, we went ahead and tried out their brunch menu. I got the Frank O American, and she got the Chicken and Waffles with a thigh and a drumstick. I got my Frank O American with the two eggs, hash brown casserole, pancake and Jackalope sausage. The eggs were cooked well, but not a fan of the hash brown casserole. It was heavily covered in solidified cheese, which overpowered the potatoes. I ended up flipping it over and just eating the greasy potatoes. Next is the pancake. When they call it a «big ass pancake», they really mean it. It was the biggest pancake I’ve ever tried to eat! It was good, but the size of the pancake meant that the fluffiness was sacrificed. I personally would rather have the fluffiness. The Jackalope sausage had good flavor, and was pretty lean. Overall, the dish was alright. I had a couple bites of the Chicken & Waffles as well. The waffle was good and the chicken were cooked perfectly. Service was good and given that we walked in around noon on a Sunday, the wait wasn’t bad at all(around 15 minutes). Overall rating is closer to 3.5, but even though my stomach was stuffed, my taste buds were wanting of a lot more.

Who doesn’t love a hot dog? So Frank is all about the gourmet hot dog experience, which I totally get if you really like hot dogs. But I’m not sure I’ve ever been like, «Hey, you know what I totally want right now? Hot dogs.» The menu is long and filled with different types of dogs though, both normal and sausage kind, and the toppings are top notch. I got the Texicana which was both pork and beef and it was big and meaty. We also did some sides, like the Rueben fries(hell yes) and the corn in a cup, which was only OK. The service here was excellent and friendly and it’s a big space, so we weren’t even asked if we had a reservation(not even sure if they take them). But we were well looked after all night. While it didn’t blow me away, I’m not sure a hog dog could blow me away. But it was a quality meal at a good price and I walked away full and happy, so I give it a thumbs up.

I’m just going to say this outright — there’s no classy way to eat a hot dog. It gets worse when you have a big wiener and there’s sauce everywhere. But enough about me. Anyway, I went with the Jackalope dog, which was pork, antelope and rabbit. It was served on their custom bun and topped with cranberry compote. Wasn’t a huge fan of the sweetness from the cranberry, but the sausage was great and so was the Sriracha aioli. I had this with a side of their waffle fries, which were super fluffy. You get a choice of sauce(first one’s free). Bartended recommended the South Carolina BBQ, which has a nice kick to it. In addition to their food, they also have a wicked whiskey and liquor selection. They even have 4 types of Japanese whiskey available. However, still nursing a hangover, I went with one of their Michelada combos instead. I went with the cleverly named Alt n Pepa, which was delicious. Nice and spicy to the end. All in all, Frank was a good time if you don’t care about your weight or cholesterol.

Had a pretty bad experience here. We came here on a Monday and the place was about half empty. After being seated near the photo booth, which I thought was pretty rad, we sat waiting for what I felt like was an eternity(being hangry and waiting always distorts time for me, as I am sure with several others). What I noticed was that other tables also were foodless, including those that sat before us. It wasn’t until 30 minutes in I asked a waiter where our food was, and in almost an instant our food came out. I remember feeling so disappointed with my meal when it came out, which was the currywurst, and my gf felt the same about her plate as well. I felt it was very simple to make, like heating the meat, toasting the bread, and layering the plate with sauce — how could it take that long. The portions were also on the small side for the price(maybe I was just super hungry). I will get a plus-1 star for having vegan cheese for their chili cheese fries, which had the same taste and consistency of the chili from 7 – 11. Maybe it was a bad day for them, but I honestly rather go to Costco and get their $ 1.50 hot dog any day over any of these«gourmet» dogs.

I have heard a lot about brunch at Frank, and finally got to experience it the other day for the first time with my friends. As everything Frank does, the brunch was amazing! It’s nothing fancy, and definitely on the richer, heavier side. For the ticket price, one of my top brunches in Austin. You cannot make reservations, but if you call in advance they will add your name to the top of the wait list when you arrive. I like that you can substitute any of the items that have a brunch biscuit with their gluten free bun made by Blackbird Bakery. My friends and I each tasted each other’s dishes, and everything was great. The grits were good, but probably my least favorite on the table. On another note, the bar menu is slightly different now. They mentioned they recently hired a new bar manager who revamped the drink list. I have always liked the drinks here, and the new drinks are even more amazing I think!

Popped into Frank upon the recommendation of a friend while in Austin. Had great hopes as the menu looks so amazing and unique! My friend & I decided to order a few things and share so we could try more than just one item. We started w the salted caramel shake and wowza, this puppy is worth every calorie! They were so sweet and even separated it into two glasses for us since we told them we were sharing. It was more than enough too! We also got the mac n cheese, the notorious PIG, the corn cup and the chocolate covered bacon. We loved all of it. my favorite actually turned out to be the corn cup! This is seriously to die for folks — corn kernels w a creamy lime chlle mayo! I couldn’t get enough of it! The only thing I prolly wouldn’t order again would be the chocolate covered bacon — it’s your typical fair style cold bacon dipped in chocolate. Kinda«been there done that» and nothing really special or unique about the version here. All in all I HIGHLY recommend a pop-in here folks… GREAT food, really nice service and a cute little place to boot! :)
