For late night eats, hard to beat a place like this. Their far sandwiches are heart stoppers but oh so tasty. They let me sub in a veggie patty for the meat and it was phenomenal. Fried egg, melted cheese, grilled onions and peppers, fries and a bunch of other stuff packed into a hero roll. Messy but really really good.

Was walking up and down Guadalupe to find a place to eat and I definitely didn’t regret it. You cannot go wrong with the Fat Texas BBQ! French-fries, cheese sticks, brisket, bacon, etc. Sounds random but taste like heaven! And the sandwiches are so big and filling! I ate half and took the other half home! And don’t worry about parking because they have a private parking lot behind the building! A+ for the customer service! There are Tv’s all over the restaurant there is no way you could miss a game!

I want to give this place a higher score because the food was great but extremely overpriced… I ordered the grilled cheese but only wanted the cheese, not the bacon or tomato and they still charged me the same amount! They weren’t at all friendly about it either. The grilled cheese was great though! I also ordered the #3 shake which was also really delicious but again so overpriced!!! If this place wants to earn allegiance from college students, then they need to adjust their prices and have friendlier staff!

Had the Jerry. It was absolutely delicious. Definitely coming back. Great hospitality, went on a slow day and they recommend the perfect sandwich.

I’d been wanting to try Fat Sal’s for quite a while. Just seeing all the fried stuff they shove into sandwiches… I mean, who wouldn’t want to try it? A heart attack in a sandwich? Sure, why not. The place is located on Guadalupe across from the school, so as you can imagine, the clientele was mostly college kids. The doors were open and with it being December, even in Texas, it was a little chilly. We ended up moving tables since it was too cold by the door. The restaurant had whole bunch of TVs with plenty of football playing. The employees all seemed like they could care less about being there and most of them were watching tv. I mean, I feel the same way about my 8 to 5, but I try not to show it. What do you really expect though from a bunch of college kids working at a sandwich place that college kids primarily frequent. I ordered a veggie burger and added provolone and avocado. It came with fat sauce, which seemed to be some sort of creamy thousand islandy type sauce, as most«special» or house sauces are. It was a little difficult to tell exactly what it was, with all of the other items on the sandwich. I have to say, the burger itself tasted so good, I felt like I was probably eating a pretty unhealthy veggie burger(which I probably was). The patty was a little crispy around the edges. Yum. Boyfriend got the Fat Buffalo which had chicken fingers, fried cheese sticks, buffalo sauce, and French fries(he got it without blue cheese on it… unfortunately). I had a bite and it didn’t disappoint. I think it would have been better with the blue cheese though. We also got a #3 shake. It had vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff, graham crackers, and shaved milk chocolate. You couldn’t really taste the marshmallow fluff and the graham crackers were mostly down at the bottom, but it was still a tasty treat.

The drunk Sal was on damn point. It was 3 am, and I was in fact drunk. That being said, it was quite delicious and filling. I am impressed with the speed of service at 3 am and the staff was cordial.

This place was the epitome of college food and with the cheap beer prices it doesn’t get any better. If you go in with higher expectations than you will be greatly disappointed. I came on a wednesday afternoon and ordered a regular cheeseburger with fries and a beer. The cost amounted to 10 bucks which was awesome. This is the type of place where it’s a thursday or friday night and you want to get some beers but actual draft type beers. While you are reasonably tipsy from the prices you enjoy their pretty unhealthy, but fully satisfying, food. They have an awesome location with chairs and tables right outside with a tree in the middle(gives it the earthy vibe). I love the concept of this place and I will return for the $ 1 beer night with the Hefeweizen on tap and I definitely need to try more of these«Fat» sandwiches.

It is what it is, a college joint that delivers larger than life sandwiches until the wee hours of the morning. And you know what? It’s pretty damn awesome in concept. The sandwiches can be hit and miss seeing that they have so much going on, but the ones that work are worth going back for over and over again. I found the Fat Joey to be my sandwich of choice after trying a few of their offerings. I think they key to a place like this is to keep your expectations in check and to get a little playful, because the combinations in some of these sandwiches are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. My friends and I always hit it up and share different sandwiches to explore the extensive menu. And heck, any place open this late in downtown gets a thumbs up from me. A great after hours alternative if you’re not in the mood for 24 diner or a fast food joint.

Decided to stop by for a late dinner with a friend~ The restaurant is quite small, and it’s filled with TVs everywhere, perfect for game days. It’s pretty loud in here, so don’t expect to have an intimate meal. Their menu is pretty simple — sandwiches and fries! My friend & I split the Killer Korean BBQ Signature Sandwich and Philly Cheesesteak Fries. Killer Korean BBQ Sandwich: 3⁄5. Overall, it’s pretty good — it’s a bit on the sweet side due to the sweet soy marinade and soy ginger vinaigrette. The bread is also just… Bread… I would have preferred toasted bread or maybe even warm bread. There’s nothing really outstanding about the sandwich. Philly Cheesesteak fries: 4.5÷5, I just really like fries, and these didn’t disappoint. Of course there are fries that will never have any sort of topping on them. These fries were still warm, salty, and tasty. It’s a pretty big portion, so it’s perfect to split if you have a small appetite or if you’re a small female, like me. I would probably come back to visit to try different fries or maybe the Italian sandwich(Italian sandwiches are probably my favorite), but I wouldn’t go out of my way to try to come here.

I’ve been around the block when it comes to joints like this one. College students love them, because(typically) they don’t know any better. This joint is incredibly over priced, and I waited an hour for a sandwich! An hour! The kids working there were nice enough, but had no real sense of customer service. In the end the food was overrated, the service left a lot to be desired, and the price…$ 8.00 for an 8 oz milk shake that was really nothing special(for the UT students, 8oz is really ______small.) Leave this place to the college students eating out on their dad’s dime, student loans, or trust funds.

We originally passed by Fat Sal’s Deli without intending to have it. After seeing the long line winding around kerbey lane, we ended up at fat sals. Fat Sal is a pretty much an open window restaurant, and it blasts music LOUD. The environment is great, and I bet it is even more packed on game days. Everything on the menu, at least the sandwiches, start with«Fat», which is extremely accurate. I ended up ordering the Fat Texas Bbq and then sat at one of the high raised chairs. There were multiple TVs, so I killed the waiting time by watching Sunday football. Fat Sal’s system to giving you your order is pretty inefficient. It’s just someone walking around holding your sandwich and yelling your name. It’s an open restaurant with music blasting and right next to the one of the busiest streets in Austin. The girl giving the sandwich’s voice was definitely being drowned out by all the sounds. And when people would say«here», she couldn’t hear them either. Our Fat Texas BBQ took so long to come out and I had to ask multiple times where our order was. That was my mistake as I did not really notice the ingredients that made up the Fat Texas BBQ sandwich: bbq pastrami brisket, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, crisp bacon, grilled onions, melted cheddar & mozzarella, fries, mayo honey bbq, on a garlic bread. Because everything is made fresh, I’m pretty sure they fry everything on order. When we finally got our order, we noticed how small the sandwich was. But it was absolutely stuffed with all the ingredients, literally a heart attack in a sandwich. It was amazing, fresh and hot. Totally worth all the calories. All of these sandwiches are $ 9.99. I wish I could have tried more of the menu because it is certainly one of the most unique eateries on the Drag. I would definitely return to Fat Sal. A lot of work goes into making every sandwich and it is definitely appreciated. I hope they change how they give out their sandwiches next time I come back

This place seemed pretty average to me, and basically reminds me of Big Bite, which to me is an older, more original restaurant, since it’s been here since I was a freshman. I had their gyro special that they currently have going on, and it was good, but not that great or special for the price. It was extremely greasy, which isn’t saying much since I ordered a wrap with french fries inside, but the meat didn’t have that much flavor as I wished it would, and the wrap overall seemed rather thick and heavy and lacking flavor. It was my first time going to this place, and I think the atmosphere is pretty great. It’s very open and friendly. However, I would think twice on the food or at least the gyro wrap.

We first came across fat sals(food truck) at the bat fest last night and found out they had a brick and mortar near university of Texas and just had to try it again while in town. I had the irresistible Italian at the truck and so went hot at the deli. My fiancé and I split a fat sal and a fat banh mi-ki and I can’t tell you which is better because they were both so delicious well put together meals. The sal had just the right amount of meat and mozzarella and who doesn’t like fries and garlic bread each ingredient complimenting the next and topped with a brown gravy that just melts in your mouth. The banh mi-ki was delectable with a steak topped with crunchy Vietnamese veggies and a spicy slaw giving it a nice kick that had me reaching for my ice cold beer. All while getting to watch some preseason football. Go hungry!!! l

Fat Sal’s. I love everything about the name. Makes me think of greasy diners or a philly cheese window or some dude that’s totally original Jersey(and maybe retired mob?) serving the secret red sauce his Nona made. The Fat Sal’s I walked into was none of those things. They’ve got an open aired, clean lines setup with tables enough for any group. Flat screen TVs with the game on for you sports fans. I was told that the owner opened up an Austin location because he wanted to move here. Surprise. Here are a couple of examples of their heart stopping combinations: Fat Mona: Fried eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, peppers, melted cheese, fries, ketchup salt on a butter grilled hero Fat Jaime: ham, chicken fingers, jalapenos, onions, mozz, avocado, lettuce, pico de gallo, fries, mayo, tapatio, lime juice Fat Anthony: chicken fingers, mozz sticks, fries, marinara ONTOP of the«irresistible italiano» sub. I tried the Fat Buffalo. If it’s horrifying typing those words, it was harder to say them aloud. Fat Sal’s has those fancy soda machines where you can pick your poison and add flavors. Double cherry vanilla raspberry to go with your Fat Jerry? I fired up my laptop — just killin’ time, doing some work while I wait. No wifi. I will never understand why places don’t have that as a standard offering. Don’t you want people to share pics of your food on the internets? My sandwich arrived on some fantastic bread. It’s soft and buttery and I have to assume they make it in house. That was about the extent of what I was impressed with on the sandwich. There was this sad sameness — like everything was made of the same stuff but in different shapes. Its hard to imagine given that there was buffalo sauce and blue cheese on it. I investigated a little more closely. What looked like grade-school cafeteria chicken patties were buffalo-ed up, topped with distinctly lackluster fries, then rolled tightly in their little wrapper. As I sat there perched on a tiny square barstools everyone seems to insist on getting, with my laptop bag in my lap b/c there are no purse hooks, trying the Fat Bland sandwich, listening to loud West Coast rap megamix of misogyny and eyeing the misplaced apostrophe on the menu, I realized that Fat Sal’s just isn’t my scene. Looking now at their website and reading: Bringing mouth watering, over the top food to L.A.‘s hungry & savvy residents” I understand why.

I’m on a five-star roll this week! I keep running into delicious food! I had no idea who or what a Fat Sal was other than a friend’s uncle back in Brooklyn but this menu is simply creative and delicious. One of the things I had missed lately is some of the flare that the east coast brought to the table(pun completely intended). There’s such a diverse melting pot of a lot of flavors and dishes — one of them being the delicatessen. The quintessential mouth watering meat market where everybody knew everybody. Fat Sal’s has captured and transplanted one of my favorite food hangouts from back home. Josh, one of the 3 owners of the business, was here in Austin at their newest location and decided to stop by to let us sample some of the menu. WOW! The Jerry, one of their signature sandwiches was awesome! A ketchup and mayo mashup with what I think was an awesomely seasoned beef(I ate it too fast to check) is a surprisingly well done mix. Now that I know they’re in town — I’ll have to place a few orders. Thanks again for stopping by the shop Josh!
