It’s really more of an event space venue these days, a fairly spartan arrangement run by the folks from Side Bar. Basically, you’re looking at a parking lot with a covered area that during SXSW backed out against a giant digital screen, housed a stage, with a thin bar serving area built out to one side.
They’re clearly gearing up for more of these types of events, and why not? It’s a great, super visible spot on 7^th street (directly across from Beauty Bar) and it sets up (best I can tell) easily for bringing folks in from all sides. I’m assuming that some of the extra gadgets that were front and center that day aren’t part of the standard package, but in a city where we don’t see much in the way of raw spaces, more of these are better. Stay tuned.

Sadly, David became ill and Empire closed its doors. It is sorely missed.
