First I’m going to go ahead and say it. This is the best chicken in the whole town. It’s better than any fried chicken you can get, it’s better than any chicken I’ve had anywhere in all of Austin. The whole chicken meal is not only good its a great deal. The price point is right on and your whole chicken comes with Charro Beans, Rice and Tortilla’s. Wait there’s more you also get green and red salsa! The green sauce is so good! Its one of the most delicious hot sauces I have ever had and I never get enough of it. In fact, writing this review is making me wish they were open late so I could stop in on the way home and pick up a whole chicken meal. Sometimes when I drive through the intersection where they are located I can smell them cooking the chickens. I cant say I haven’t immediately detoured to get one. If you happen to be Stassney and South 1st and you smell chickens do yourself a favor and detour for the chicken. You wont regret it!

This is what I call fast food heaven! We order the whole chicken meal sometimes or if we are low carbing it we will pick up two whole chickens for $ 20 with no extra sides. The chicken here is absolutely the best in the whole town. I have tasted the other Mexican chicken competitors and they are not as good in my opinion. The charcoal flavor mixed with the seasoning is pure perfection. Then there is also the green sauce that will rock your taste buds. I dip and drizzle my chicken in the green sauce. The charro beans have chunks of meat in them, they are packed with flavor and taste like they have been stewing and cooking in your grandma’s kitchen for days. The prices are cheap too, especially if you are feeding a family. The large whole chicken mean with the large sides is $ 18 and can feed a family of 4. For what El Pollo Rico does — they are literally as good as it gets!

Due to an afternoon encounter with El Pollo Rico I am now a FATBASTARD. my girlfriend and I got the chicken and beef combo’s and gorged ourselves into oblivion. That place is cheap and pretty good. Stay away from the beef and make sweet love to the succulent, juicy, smokey pollo. Not fancy at all– but pretty good.

El Pollo Rico is the most awesome thing ever. For $ 15, you get a whole char-grilled chicken, rice, beans, tortillas, onion, and salsa. This chicken is pure ecstasy. The left-overs make a fantastic breakfast as well. Plus, this location has a drive-thru. Can life get any better? The next time you need to pick up dinner on the way home, stop here. It will not disappoint.

I absolutely love this place. I love the aroma driving up to it, the smoky meat smell filling the air. I love the charro beans, the rice, the chicken… and especially the carne. Of course, as mentioned in other reviews, the green sauce is amazing. BTW, never had any problem with the food here in over a number of years visiting. And Taco Cabana doesn’t even qualify as Mexican food.

FOODPOISONING — definitely was from the food I ate here. I had a chicken burrito here; tasted just OK but not fresh(one bite tasted bad). That’s all. I’ve never thrown up so many times in my life. I think the health department needs to visit them early and often. AVOID. Go ANYWHERE else.

Best food that has ever been handed to me through a car window, hands-down. Get the half-chicken combo, or the whole chicken if you’re with a friend. The seasoning is so good that you will be licking your fingers and scraping the bones with your teeth, to the point that its almost embarrassing. Comes with a bowl of rice, beans with big chunks of fresh veggies, a stack of like 8 tortillas, two salsas, and a whole grilled onion. Seriously awesome.

This place is fast and relatively cheap, but I’d rather go to Taco Cabana for similar food at a better price.
